  3. I donā€™t know, thatā€™s giving them lots of credit. Most non flyers have no idea what plane is flown at their base. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  7. The only uniform item that I derive any morale from whatsoever is the green bag. It serves as a daily reminder that I'm better than the nonners and the paper pushers who convene meetings like the one that produced this worthless uniform reg update. hot take alert: if you wear the two piece flight suit you're a beta cuck flyer who is complicit it the eventual eradication of the green bag. Shame on you and your disrespect for tradition and may god have mercy on your soul

  8. During my RPA stint, I felt more like a system operator than a pilot. There were very few times I felt like I was piloting something. It made me miss the hell out of manned flying which I eventually returned to. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  10. I actually think a football bat is more likely to succeed, with fewer fuckups, than this bonus proposition.

  11. They actually changed it because the general public picked up on the connotation that "drones" or "unmanned" aerial vehicles were autonomous and making kill/no kill decisions algorithmically without human input. The change in terminology was to emphasize that despite the fact the aircrew member is not on the aircraft, it is still controlled by a human being, a person, who is making decisions and inputs. This predates any General Officer with significant RPA experience and was entirely done to reduce public resistance to the GWOT. The term Pilot comes from Pilotus, which means "Rudder" or more appropriately, one who steers a rudder. Its also used to refer to the person who steers the helm of a ship or boat. Aircraft pilots dont have exclusive use of the word. TAMI-21 imprisoned me for 3 years in that world. However, the professionalism and knowledge I saw about air operations often surpassed the manned aircraft pilots I worked with. I have no issue with RPA pilots adopting the term. Nothing in the etymology of the term "pilot" has anything to do with actual presence on a vessel and more to do with the actual control and steering of the vessel.

  12. I know some are adverse to facts...however, the $25,000 was established sometime in the early 90's (best I can tell). Congrats, they basically finally adjusted for inflation...for the first year of the 10 you'll be receiving it. Have fun with your AFPAK HANDS 2.0 assignment when they create it. Good work, great incentive. P.S. Don't take the bonus. https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

  14. "How about we add 3 more props, and a cannon?" Taller gent says, "That'll do quite nicely", Then the shorter smartass mutters, "but it can only turn left"...to which the taller retorts, "then we'll make a low-level badass version as well!"

  17. LOL, I thought of the exact same thing. I think I was told in 2018 that they'd correct our flight pay when they roll out the new pay system 2020 (near future?)! Well, here it is 2023 and it's still not active. Near future must have a different meaning to them. BTW, has this years Guard bonus come out yet? What's the status on DSG's getting full flight pay? The part timer bonus that was available to like 6.9 people in the entire ANG. Cynicism is hard to get past when you've seen a career of their bullshit promises. Take everything with a massive grain of salt.

  23. Relax dog I was (mostly) joking. Wear whatever you like/what is most comfortable/fits your mission the best. I have no doubt other garments outperform the green bag in many ways. But not in uniqueness, heritage, or looking dope.. which is probably why the Air Force will get rid of it some day. When I see flying group and wing CCs wearing OCPs or the two piece that tells me the green bags days are numbered. Because anything special or cool going on in the flying ops world must eventually be neutered in the name of inclusivity and preventing hurt feelings.

  25. Two peice suits, although not good at picking up chicks, were good for flying in the heat with body armor and a gun. They also were good for keeping me warm when it was -20 and I still had to fly. Cabin heat sucks in the Huey. Great for helicopters! I kinda liked it when people assumed I wasn't a pilot/aircrew. I got treated better by the support airmen lol.

  28. I'm a medical school faculty member (have been for a long time) - one thing to know is that - as mentioned above - while it's probably easier to get into medical school when you're younger, it's not a "carved in stone" deal requiring a waiver like entry into UPT is. We have plenty of prior military folks come to medical school older than their classmates - some officers (pilots and others), some enlisted who do their tour, then go to college & med school. These days coming to med school later than your peers because you've been in the military really is no big deal. So the path of less resistance might be med school after you are a rated pilot. There is a saying that it's easier to make a Soldier (Airman, Marine, etc) into a physician than to make a physician into a Soldier. Having trained a whole bunch of physicians and having been in the military and around a whole bunch of military people, I think that's right. Also, don't think you have to major in biology or chemistry in college to get into med school. You do have to take the basic premed stuff (two semesters of biology, two semesters of physics, two semesters of general chemistry, two semesters of organic chemistry) - but other than that major in whatever you want & will make good grades at. We don't care as long as it's an actual college major and your grades are good. I've worked with two chiefs of surgery who were English majors and docs who were music majors, sociology majors, engineers & math majors. try to rock the MCAT - really high MCAT scores make you stand out in a good way although they won't compensate for bad college grades. And I think those people who tell you that prep courses for the MCAT don't make any difference are full of shit. It's a high stakes exam & I highly recommend serious preparation, usually with a prep course.
