The root cause of all of these kids doing this is shitty parents. Either shitty because they support their kid having a mental health crisis, or so detached from their kid’s life they had no idea any of this was happening until too late. Either way they failed their kid, horrifically.8 points

It has been proven over and over again that having a complete family unit while growing up is one of the single biggest predictors of success in life. By success I don't mean becoming a CEO or a pro athlete, I simply mean a good happy human being.7 points

Another mental health case kills kids in a school, and predictably all the dems can talk about is gun laws. Not one mention of the shooter’s mental health illness, specifically trans in this case. They do not give one genuine fuck about saving kids, they care only about power. I’ll keep saying it, if all you talk about is guns and don’t talk about/do anything to address mental health and societal issues, you do not care about kids at all because you refuse to identify and address the RC.4 points

I mean...I've seen worse airspace deconfliction. In all seriousness though, I don't think that what they're doing is at all comparable to MQ-9 ops. Can't speak to RQ-4s outside of the fact that they can't physically manipulate the flight controls via stick, throttle, rudder pedals. I've sat in with the Army Gray Eagle folks, and their situation is vastly different as well. There's no argument from me about the life-on-the-line differences of being inside the aircraft. There's also no misconception (at least from me) about the training levels between 11s and 18s. There's still piloting going on though, albeit remotely...whether it's employing weapons in a stack full of manned aircraft or transiting in congested airspace with shitty weather and no true sense-and-avoid capability...all while dealing with the same questionable TAC C2 vectors that you also have to deal with. But don't worry, I have a grand solution for it all. From now on, just call us Remote Aircraft Flight Control Manipulators and Doers of Pilot-Like Tasks. Or RAFCMDPLT for short.3 points

They don’t help the homeless or trans people. They celebrate their mental issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I'm trying not to be the grumpy weird veteran who only talks to his neighbors to tell them to "Get off my lawn", but here I am. I know what your saying brother. I get it.....3,2....1...but I'm having a hard time watching our country turn into a National Enquire magazine from 50 years ago. I really don't have a problem with trans people. I have a problem with mental illnesses not being properly diagnosed and children growing up like Jazz Jennings, whose parents are delusional. I'm upset that there's no debating this issue other than saying I'm a facist for not understanding the trans movement (pronouns also). What if they put as much energy towards helping the homeless as they do with trans issues? To be honest. I have lost faith in our government. I hope they keep it together so I can continue to get my monthly retirement check. There has to be a huge change in leadership to turn this Carnival Crusie around. Wait until they come after your retirement and disability checks to pay for reparations.2 points

Well said. At least she was mentioning the current events, however. Her husband was busy rambling about ice cream. I suppose that it’s for the best if Joe Biden just sits in the corner and talks about ice cream.2 points

I liked turning on the tube and seeing Jill Biden asking for congress to ban assault rifles. Not one word about mental health or trans pride (lol). Just more give the government your guns talk. They've been doing the same thing since before Columbine. They've (congress) had several decades to make changes and yet here we are again. They don't care about dead children. They just want your guns. I'm not a huge gun nut but everytime I hear people talk about taking away guns, it makes me want to buy a few more. I did hear a non FOX news source mention that the shooter was trans. They mentioned it at the end like a disclaimer you'd hear on the radio.2 points

Special pay for extra quals would be pretty easily tied to your AFSC prefix, W-, Q-, K-, S-, etc. If they want to pay FTU instructors more, make up a new code for that. Easy. In fact, add B- and C- code special pay and it’ll start to make a lot more sense. Taking on commander duties deserves a lot more cash than being a line Lt Col.2 points

They actually changed it because the general public picked up on the connotation that "drones" or "unmanned" aerial vehicles were autonomous and making kill/no kill decisions algorithmically without human input. The change in terminology was to emphasize that despite the fact the aircrew member is not on the aircraft, it is still controlled by a human being, a person, who is making decisions and inputs. This predates any General Officer with significant RPA experience and was entirely done to reduce public resistance to the GWOT. The term Pilot comes from Pilotus, which means "Rudder" or more appropriately, one who steers a rudder. Its also used to refer to the person who steers the helm of a ship or boat. Aircraft pilots dont have exclusive use of the word. TAMI-21 imprisoned me for 3 years in that world. However, the professionalism and knowledge I saw about air operations often surpassed the manned aircraft pilots I worked with. I have no issue with RPA pilots adopting the term. Nothing in the etymology of the term "pilot" has anything to do with actual presence on a vessel and more to do with the actual control and steering of the vessel.2 points

So here is the actual full video (~28 minutes) of Biden’s remarks at the Women’s Business Summit at the White House. https://www.c-span.org/video/?526980-1/president-biden-calls-congress-pass-assault-weapons-ban-nashville-school-shooting 10:14-12:24 includes his opening comments about the shooting in Nashville. Feel free to judge him by those comments; I think they were very appropriate. Of literally all the things in the entire world Joe Biden can speak about well and compassionately, it would be having a child die cruelty too soon. Before 10:14 he was introduced and warmed up the visiting crowd at the White House, which included kids, and after 12:24, he have his actual remarks about women and their businesses. Even the joking comment about Jenni’s Ice Cream highlighted in bad faith above makes sense given that it’s not only a personal fav of his and an ongoing meme about him, but it’s also an ice cream business started by a woman that’s now wildly successful. So given full context instead of the dickhead edit you see above, I have basically zero critiques.1 point

I want to apologize (haha) to those of you who don't have a WSJ subscription, but there was, in my view, a shocking poll released that everyone should be aware of: https://www.wsj.com/articles/americans-pull-back-from-values-that-once-defined-u-s-wsj-norc-poll-finds-df8534cd?mod=hp_trending_now_article_pos3 A Highlight: Patriotism, religious faith, having children and other priorities that helped define the national character for generations are receding in importance to Americans, a new Wall Street Journal-NORC poll finds. So yes, Hell-in-a-handbasket here we come (wait, we're already there).1 point

Honestly, I can't even imagine working 15 days/month at the airline. Homie do play that game...12 days is about my max. Much prefer to be down around 6-9. In base reserve or line holder, dropping trips is where it's at. Life's too short to be working that much, especially at our pay rates.1 point

Have friends that fly fire, and honestly I’d love to do it, but the pay and time away from home is a total non-starter. But for the guy living in Palau the rest of the year, sounds like he is nailing it…for his specific life situation. Personally, GA (p61/91/141) has been my filler for the “thrilling/fulfilling” flying. You also never know who you’ll meet and what cool flying you can find yourself getting into…there’s a ton out there that is way beyond a 172. I’ve flown a lot of cool shit so far that I didn’t spend a dime on; make connections, people like your mil flying background and the assumed capabilities that come with it. Airlines may also approve p135 flying if its deemed not to conflict. YMMV on that approval, but there’s some pretty fun 135 stuff out there. The airline provides all the $ and free time you need to do these things. So, I look at it as a solid job that affords me these fun and challenging flying opportunities and means to support my family (plus all my other hobbies). No need to see it as your only option for flying in life after the mil, it’s just a good job. Edit: If your spouse is making solid $ and has a strong future in that job, or you have a great earning potential from real estate or something else, then the financials of the airlines may not be as big of an allure. At that point there are lots of options for fun flying, they just won’t pay the bills like you’re currently used to as an O-4/O-5 in the AF.1 point

I have friends flying for CalFire and also firefighting in the northwest. Police ISR, medevac, or have flown contracting for state and fed government. Long line work, overseas support (both mil and civ stuff). There’s more out there. Using firefighting as an example, depending on region you might only fly from April-October so the rest of the year is yours. I have a buddy who lives on a diveboat in Palau during the off-season. Lots of options out there. The caveat is I don’t know of any that pay what you’d make after a few years in the airlines, but you can live pretty comfortably.1 point

Story time... One drill weekend circa 2014/2015, half the squadron is piled on a bus headed to some off-base training. I was a still in my first year at DAL and I didn't really talk much airline talk in the squadron unless asked. On the bus ride out, someone asks me something about DAL, so I answered. Suddenly, two of our full timers (so self pro-claimed, "never airline" types...) come unglued and bitch me out for talking airline talk. Until I saw their reaction to my laugh, I thought they were joking because I was simply answering a question. They were legit pissed and kept yelling...at which point I told them how, when, where and why they could go fuck themselves. The closest I've ever come to throwing a punch at work actually. I was a prior-e with one of them, so it threw me off guard. Anywho, fast forward a few years and those two fuckheads are flying for the airlines. I'm sitting in a briefing room, prepping for a sortie and I hear them chattering around the corner about airlines. I peak my ugly mug around the corner with a smug ass look and ask them to keep the airline chatter down, I'm trying to prep tactical shit here. It's certainly not for everyone, but Brabus is right, for many years of our careers we've been conditioned against airlines. I guess that's why it's referenced so much now. Don't worry, it will stop in the next down turn... Break Break Some people need their work to give them a sense of purpose and a feeling doing something meaningful, which is great. This U-2 gig seems like a great deal for someone like that. Then there are people like me who do the airlines because it's the best money I can make, in the least amount of time away from home. I've got way too many things I want to do outside of work...no purpose needed for me. Not many places are going to be ok with me dropping my schedule and not showing up for the month lol. I'd rather spend my time traveling with the frau, volunteering at the local aviation museum and flying my own planes. Neither is right...someone will be happy with this U-2 gig for sure.1 point

I've only ever heard of one unit that had a distance requirement and it certainly wasn't for alert. We have alert on our base (fighters), but I can't imagine having a distance requirement. Many years ago, an OG/CC made a push for this, but he couldn't find a legal way to institute such a policy. Thankfully that dude was 100% by the book and since he couldn't find legal grounds to make it happen, he gave up. In all actuality, it isn't a big deal for my squadron because 95%+ of the squadron lives within 10 miles of the base, with a vast majority of those living within 5 miles. We're an odd spot where the area near the airport is actually the nicest part of the city.1 point

8 days a month!?!? How do they even have enough pay days for something like that? Are they forcing them to only log 1 pay card/day...if so, bail asap. I guess they don't understand the "part-time" idea behind the Guard/Reserve. I wouldn't even work in a fighter squadron that required 8 days a month. My squadron (fighters) only requires 4 days/month, but most guys do 5 or so. Most of my heavy brethren are only required to work 2 days/month. I'd recommend he try to get hired at a unit that is actually part-timer friendly, or look at an AOC or IMA gig.1 point
