The first dude that was indispensable in our unit, showed up on his first Drill after being “retired” for about 4-5 (I.e. 6-9) months, and was handed a C-bag with all his Chem gear in it for an exercise we were having. He looked at the OG and said, I’m not doing this. Quit that weekend to never come back and has forever lived in infamy.5 points

Also relevant, it wasn’t their tongues that the priests were asking little boys to suck! 🍆😅3 points

Don't be an asshole with classified. That pretty much sums it up, you can now delete the e-mail without reading. On another note, I'm impressed that you actually open your e-mail as a DSG/TR.3 points

Anyone else see the email from Hicks today, and seriously fight the urge to reply all with “Thanks! Oh hey, you really nailed that interview with Jon Stewart by the way!”3 points

Eh, you look at Kathleen Hicks' bio, and it becomes clear how someone like her could arrive unprepared. She's a DC swamp creature through and through. She's spent her entire career within the DC Beltway. It's not surprising that she would appear so entirely out of touch. She probably thought Jon Stewart would crack a couple jokes, shake her hand, and leave. Look at her bio; she's spent her entire adult life as a bureaucrat in the federal government. She's married to a fellow swamp creature (Thomas Hicks) who had such career highlights as "helping to pursue low emissions alternative fuels" as Undersecretary of the Navy, and now runs a K-street advisory firm focusing on "help(ing) companies, organizations, governments and institutions prepare for, mitigate against and take advantage of change." Whatever the fuck that means. When people talk about the "Deep State," these are the kind of folks they're talking about. A huge body of career bureaucrats, answerable only to their fellow bureaucrats. They make buckets of money, and provide vanishingly little in return. As time goes on and their numbers increase, they only get more and more out of touch with the day to day lives or ordinary Americans.3 points

My phone counseling was about a month after my board results, with an AFPC O-5, and it was a waste of time. It basically went like this: Him: For your next OPR, make sure it says X, Y, and Z. Me: My “next OPR” just closed out, and my PRF is due in 2 weeks because HAF accelerated the board schedule. Him: Oh, well, good luck. As far as continuation, if you’re a pilot with a clean record, you should definitely be offered it. I’ve known several pilots who didn’t make Major and still got offered continuation to 20 as a Captain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I also got a TBNT yesterday, interview invites went out on the 7th. Best of luck, onto the next one.1 point

In years past they kind of only informed people who were close to getting an interview - or rushed. totally get the issues going cross country to rush, I wanted to go to the Vermont one then I looked at the costs of flights 😬1 point

I was passed over in 2016 and 17, so the data is a bit dated. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the process hasn't changed at all. Expect continuation to be offered if you're in a critical career field. It's an individualized letter you get and are required to sign, so read everything carefully. If it's confusing, grab a personalist to de-code it before you sign. If passed over, you're supposed to get a sit-down with your commander to cover all the details and what to expect next. Grill him on details in that interview and get your ranking as he pushed you out of the squadron, as well as your ranking in the wing. That's less about fixing something and more about accountability. Any commander worth his salt should already be digging in to see exactly why you didn't make it. After all that, you get a one-on-one phone counselling with a AFPC civilian who's whole existence is promotions and passed over stats. That is about looking at the numbers for your entire promotion group and examining some of your peer group packages that were right on the cut-off line to see what they had vs what you had. That's what's supposed to happen. In my case, I got a phone call from my supervising O-6 who was two countries away saying 'sorry, you didn't make it, good luck'...and I had to figure all this out on my own, so beware: mileage may vary. I will simply highlight that it's your boss's job to dig all this up and explain it, but there are also a lot of useless bosses out there. As your profile says you're at RND, you should be able to go direct to the source for councelling...or simply to kick those AFPC clowns in the shins...1 point

We were fat on O-6s the last couple years but back to normal numbers. I wouldn’t be surprised if it continues down. We are back to letting people opt out of command, although leadership can disapprove it and make you compete. We are always a number in the system from the day we join and it doesn’t change when you are one of 4000 Colonels. Some generals worry more about individual desires than others, but the system at least tries to listen. The problem is the system tries to get the best overall answer, but if your the guy that got sent to the opposite side of the world from where you wanted in a job you asked not to have, you rightfully could give 2 shits about the fairness of the system and how much it cares about you.1 point

When a Regular Retiree retires again from ARC, his regular retirement pay will be recomputed to add all credits from ARC service.1 point

You pretty much answered your own question. Because it’s California, that’s why. You think they would win anywhere else? Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums1 point

Fair enough Ukraine is a significant food (wheat) and mineral exporter, largest country in Europe and strategically placed for access to Mid-East / Central Asia so I'll just disagree on their importance but BO should not be an echo chamber so there we go.1 point

Seriously. Let's remind people what happens if you leak documents and you aren't a general or a politician.1 point

So do I get to just show up, fly BFM/DCA/BSA, get my OHWS massage and go home? Or do I still have to do all the bullshit that makes life painful in the military (SAPR/CBRNE/pretty much anything by flying)? Also, is there an "indispensable BMC," that is something like 3 sorities/month? Asking for a friend. Last year, my WG/CC was denied indispensability by our TAG (Army) because... well, he's Army...1 point

For the couple dudes I know doing it, they get their full retirement and VA pay per standard, then anytime they work as a TR/DSG, they don’t get paid those things, but do get paid the TR/DSG pay for the period(s) they worked. Not sure about accruing more time towards an increased retirement amount.1 point

I'd advise anyone considering to vote for Gavin Newsom to choke themselves. If they happen to live through the choking, they should come visit our once great state of CA. There are more homeless people here than live in Wyoming. Everytime it rains, our beaches get covered in needles from the thousands of homeless that discard their waste into the creeks and rivers where they have established shanty towns. Instead of Disneyland, visit skid row. My favorite part is how people here complain about how shitty it is and blame conservatives, yet all of the shittiest parts of CA are dem controlled. Look at the difference between OC and LA or SD and LA. You will see the actually results of years of shitty decisions in the Golden State. You can literally see the difference between OC and LA when you cross county lines. LA county is a giant terd.1 point
