Was at some AF school and we had a consultant in tech come talk to us. It was about 3-4 years ago when "innovation" was the Air Force buzz sauce. Dude just laughed and said the DoD is one of the least innovative enterprises on the planet. He talked about how innovation cost money, and Elon Musk will blow up a $30B rocket just to figure out why rockets blow up. The DoD is too conservative and isn't willing to do that. He basically said if you're not the type of person that can burn a $100 bill without even blinking, you aren't ready to innovate, and that's why private sector software, tech and space are moving so far beyond DoD capability. Thought he made some really good points about that.3 points

He wasn't, other than being one of the funniest people to have lived. Humanity has gotten consistently better for the overwhelming majority of our existence. There have been notable retreats (fall of the Roman empire), but in the modern world (last 500 years or so) you would have always wanted to live in the time you existed over living 50 or 100 years earlier. We focus on the negative because it is an asset to survival, especially in the harsher world of the past. But the "humans suck" arguments have always been at odds with the reality that if humans (and religious humans who constitute the vast majority of humans who have lived) really sucked, the world would not keep getting better.2 points

That dude monetizes religion. I'll bet his conglomerate makes him and a ton of others rich. George Carlin said, “Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!”2 points

It’s the definition of making it equitable for everyone. This absolutely fits the sexist and racist goals of DEI. 100%1 point

The $500 reimbursement thing is a Reserves deal, not offered by any ANGs to my knowledge. Which sucks, would be real nice if the ANG had it. It’s for any IDT travel. I think it’s up to 12x $500 trips a year, not necessarily limited to once a month.1 point

This sounds shitty and inequitable.... but I realized socialized pricing is becoming the norm on the private commodities market. We already do it with airline ticketing and education. Mortgages honestly makes sense as a next step. You're going to pay it because at the end of the day you need a house and you are willing to pay more than others for it. If anything there's a shit ton of bank executives kicking themselves in the nuts right now for not thinking of this sooner. They were leaving a lot of money on the table. Just watched a really interesting presentation on this but in short, the way the consumer market is moving, over the next few decades, if you make more money, you will begin paying more for the same items other people pay less for. In other words, as digital markets become more and more dominant, they are going to use data collection to profile you, and individual pricing based on your personal demand will dictate your price. If you make more money or have higher demand, companies will be able to ID that you are wiling to pay more for an identical product someone else is getting at a much lower price. This sounds bonkers, and I wouldn't believe it on my own, but like I said--its already happening in education and airline ticketing. Not saying I agree with Biden here. Just saying if he didn't do it, the bank was certainly going to do it in the next decade.1 point

In today's installment of "How can Biden F@ck Americans"... Effective May 1st borrowers with a credit score greater than 680 will pay MORE on their loans to subsidize high risk loans. As an example for example, non-dirtbags who pay their monthly bills and live within their means resulting in a higher credit score will pay about $40 per month more on a home loan of $400,000. And just to make the slap to the nutsack even better, homebuyers who save and make down payments of 15% to 20% will get socked with the largest fees. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/apr/18/joe-biden-hike-payments-good-credit-homebuyers-sub/1 point

What’s the difference between a Baptist and a catholic? Give up? The Catholics say hi to each other at the liquor store. Everyone on this planet is a hypocrite in some fashion.1 point

Totally agree. It's funny, when people say leftism has become a religion I don't think they realize that's an indictment of leftism.. and religion1 point

Not a troll and I'm happy to have good faith debate to the extent that I have limited time to live my life on the baseops forums. Anyone familiar with my comment history knows I bash on the radical left as much as the radical right. It's almost like I have a thing against radicals of all types! Weird.. I think we all need some devils advocate (pun intended) from time to time to prevent this place from turning into a breitbart comments section, and I'm happy to provide it.1 point

Gents, stop feeding the trolls. The individuals you’re trying to engage with have shown time and again they’re not interested in having a good faith argument. They find spouting some drivel about Christianity they picked up on reddit as their form of “owning the conservatives.” They’re just as intolerant as the caricatures of religious bigotry that they rail against.1 point

Have you ever actually read any of the history you're quoting? Seriously, some of what you're stating is on par with claiming that germany won WWII. If you make a claim without supporting it, don't expect anyone to pay it any respect. For example: Please defend your central theme of "The Bible is every bit as brutal as the Quran". Do you mean it's a brutal story? If so, then...yes...history is brutal. Do you mean it's brutal in the directives it contains...such as stating all non-believers must be either converted or killed? Because that dictate exists in only one of those two documents. As a baseline to kill the "exclusive truth" argument: All religions are by their very nature exclusive. Literally. Please define "LU fundamentalists". You started by comparing Liberty University to Muslim extremists, then shifted to "LU fundamentalists". You introduced a new term and presumably a different people group. Define it. You addressed "Bigoted violence". Are you addressing only violence conducted in the name of religion? Should we assume you include the innumerable protests in the past few years that were clearly bigoted against the rule of law as demonstrated by several attacks and vandalism acts against state and federal government facilities, judges, and employees? There are several people around here on a 'high horse' about such violence...while simultaneously ignoring the same exact kind of violence that doesn't fit their view point or narrative. Please explain how you understand the word "bigot" Standing by for factual statements and logic to back up your claims.1 point

I’d suggest going back and rereading history with a more open mind to the truth. Overwhelming secular humanism in the modern West is why we’re where we are currently and their intent is to eliminate Christianity and welcome in the current gender confusion and all the other alphabet nonsense. Just because humans are fallen creatures prone to sin, doesn’t mean Christianity is wrong or has caused any of the examples you threw out. And without it, I shudder to think where the world would be. I recognize terrible things have been and are still done in the name of Christianity, but adherence to Christianity caused the Western world to grant rights to women and see them as equal partners with men, finally free the slaves (way later than it should have happened), recognize the inherent dignity of each person, value human life, value the nuclear family, value classical education (schools in NA were all founded by Christians), value individual liberty and freedom from oppression, etc etc.1 point

No hard info on pilot needs...I don't see much change from the last few years. If you go to OTS as a civilian, you'll find out there which base you'll go to, and have a chance to volunteer for an ENJJPT slot in any are available (avg maybe one per class). As for preparing, start early getting ready for the AF fitness test (running 1.5 mile, pushups, situps, waist measurement close to 34 inches). Beyond that there really isn't anything specific to prepare for. The school is really set up to take bodies off the street and run them through the system.1 point

Well going in closed minded is definitely going to hurt your chances. From what I've heard there are a lot of "fighter only" guys that are sooooo sure they want it until they actually get into UPT and change their minds. Another thing, a fighter is NEVER guaranteed even if you get picked up by whatever Guard/Reserve unit that flies them. Even if they send you to UPT, you still have to graduate with a certain grade or you won't even move on whereas if you go AD you can still move to something other than fighters. I saw a post on airforceots.com about a guy saying that this guy in his UPT class had over 2200 hours and had an F-16 waiting for him but didn't get through T-6's... I am not trying to be negative, but this is a very very very competitive career to get and from my experience with talking to Guard/Reserve fighter units, they want guys that are already part of the unit and even if you join it there is no guarantee + you could possibly get stuck doing something you don't want to be doing and passing up that age limit.... Have you ever flown before? I had the same attitude as you looking at it before I had even flown and now that I just about have my license, I realize how much fun it is just flying a Cessna 172 and no matter what I get, I know I'll be happy. Just my .02 *sorry if the sentence structure is poor, it's late and I'm tired + going to bed*1 point
