Guys I figured it out, if every dude on earth identifies as a woman maybe we can get the left to quit bitching about the gender pay gap but seriously the lefts gender philosophy is so full of contradictions and I feel like the right does a very poor job pointing them out. If women are a victim class that need protecting, it must have some definition.. except the left balks when you ask for one. If gender is a social construct and completely fluid, why do people need to get surgeries to align with something (apparently) totally made up.4 points

This should be fun! The 80 year old with demonstrable cognitive decline is going to run for President again! As opposed to putting the nation through the whole FJB vs Orange Man Bad again, I say we put on a pay per view (funds go to pay down debt) death cage match and the winner is exiled to Epstein Island. Win, win, win for everyone.3 points

Honestly, I think this matters very little. Van Ovost makes A LOT OF SENSE. A robust knowledge of SEAD isn't going to win the South China Sea. That is literally the smallest problem set there and I'm certain any given weapons officer at any given F-35 squadron is more than capable of solving that for any given MPC. What is much more problematic, and why VO makes so much sense is the logistical problem in the Pacific and the fact that we have a smaller tanker and airlift fleet than we've had historically while planning to fight a war in 5 years thats going to take place over a greater geographic area than any war we've fought in the last 70 years. In in 99% of that geographic area, there is 0 ground lines of communications, effectively incapacitating 1/3 of the entire logistics enterprise. (In reality much more since ground transport can move more stuff cheaper than air or sea transport) Never mind the fact that on any given day any of those key islands we might rely upon for solving that logistics nightmare might just be not there thanks to China's latest advances in missile technology. I know you're a fighter dude and love blowing shit up, but lets face it--if we leave that problem to a Viper dude, there's likely going to be several hundred other fighter dudes sitting on an alert ramp with no gas and no weapons. It would literally take a year and a half for a CAF guy to even get caught up to understanding the problem, much less being able to put any foot forward on defining a solution. Yes learning SEAD and weapons is cool, but what I really need someone to know is what are the primary lines of communication, how many tons of freight can they move, how quickly, during what times of year, how much staging is needed for every single supply depot, what is the capacity at every supply depot before overage and need cargo forward.... Theres an economics side to it, what does it mean when a major port in Singapore puts down a paddock for renovation? How many other supply nodes does that effect on the first, second and third order? I'm not saying any of it is hard and a fighter guy couldn't pick it up. Its not even a tanker versus fighter thing since I'm almost certain most tanker bros cant speak to this. Its more the fact that VO is leaving TRANSCOM and has already spent years untangling the requisite knot in her own head space. If we accept that China is the next big war, and its happening in 5 years, which seems to be on repeat among senior staffs now--then positioning of WRM needs to start happening now and that's not something I think another CQB could handle. He did his big effort which was bringing on the whole AGILE Wing thing. That was a great move to lower the logistics burden and apply some redundant C2. But I honestly think VO is in the best position to solve the next big problem and why a COCOM/CC would be tapped for a Chief role rather than even the AMC commander.2 points

I’m just curious how this administration will use this to conduct the next social experiment. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app2 points

The only hope is Trump doesn’t win the primary. If that somehow happens, Biden may very well lose. If it comes down to Trump vs. Biden, we’re fucked.2 points

No worries mate and sorry for the mix up. I agree everyone loves a blood thirsty war dog when going to combat, but I have no doubt that a solid ACC commander can pick up the slack from a motivational standpoint while VO works on lobbying congress to get some much needed money to the right programs earlier than another candidate might.1 point

Dont give me that much credit, I'm just a mouth breathing rotorhead that never gets invited to the parties. Lol. But in all seriousness, FLEA you make some good points. It's obvious that I never made it out of the tactical planning phase of being an officer. In the end, whoever is in charge is going to surround themselves with knowledgeable people to make up for any shortcomings.1 point

I’ll stomp this now and crush dreams that if DM goes AFSOC, it’ll be in addition to and not a replacement of Cannon. With the OA-1K coming online, DM is great because of the existing infrastructure for A-10 ops with weapons storage that isn’t present at other bases. Turns out you can’t just put AGR-20’s in a big bunker with all the Gunship stuff.1 point

Valid but I don’t think DM is really a good example of this problem. If the A-10 evaporated tomorrow, there are still EC-130s and plenty or rescue iron there. DM also houses an ACA Det, the 214th RG, an AOC, border patrol and this little thing called the boneyard - which has expanded its scope to essentially become a full-up maintenance depot. The town is also 1.3M+ and growing, tough comparison to some ~40K sh!thole remote NM dustbowl. Taking our busiest operators and cramming them into Clovis was always a big FU to them and their families, and the perfect example of your point.1 point

As one of those independents he's talking about, this is disconcerting...but also seems highly accurate...which is disconcerting...1 point

The problem is not an incomplete launch pad, the problem is down the line when one these Starships refuel on the moon and relaunch itself home or onto Mars. If it does this every time, landing it on the Mars will make a permanent fixture on the planet. Elon might have to build a ship like the Apollo Lunar landers carried by Starship. Each question answered brings ten more questions or problems that need to solve. Apollo was a tinker toy compared to this. Glad it's in the private sector, can't imagine a bunch GS 15's stabbing each other in the back and taking years to make simple changes.1 point

I punched at the 10 year mark as a Flying TR with a palace chase commitment. After I had served my 18 month commitment I decided to stay mainly because I liked the people in the unit. I view staying in the reserve as another insurance policy. If you have a major economic downturn, furlough, medical disability; the security of the unit and the retirement pension is huge. If you have a major airline career with no bumps in the road, then gutting out 10 extra years in the reserves won’t be worth much more than the memories with the bros. The pension at 60 will be just some extra beer money compared to your 401K balance after a 30 year airline career.1 point

I said this in another thread but if you want a systematic approach just go around the circle naming the direction the parking lot is until you hit the one they want. For example if the uav is pointing southeast then you know the first square to the right is south and then go around saying west, north, east. The ones pointing the Cardinal directions should be easy enough without doing this. It's systematic and can usually be done before the timer starts. The picture pops up showing the parking lot they want you to click then it audibly tells you which one to click then the timer starts so you have about a full 2 seconds before the timer starts.1 point

Ya what was said above. Most the UPT bases have a dude that does the testing/paperwork the day after you graduate. You pay a fee, they teach you the commercial test, you take the test, a few weeks later you get your license in the mail. T-1 guys get a multi engine commercial, I believe 38s get the same now. Not sure about the whirlybird guys.1 point

What i did was start working my way around clockwise. If the yellow arrow pointed north east i knew the first square clockwise was east, the next was south, then west, then north. It wasn't super fast but it was consistent. After practice it can be pretty quick.1 point

All super good advice and I want to double up on a couple. I worked at an FBO and was able to get discounts and even some free flights under the guise of something else that the chief pilot logged for me. The biggest one is the pre-study and very solid grasp of the “control and performance” concept. Once you understand that if you set up the airplane to do a certain maneuver via specific power setting/bank angle/etc, you can make much smaller and better corrections to fly more precisely. I can’t tell you how many students I had as a CFI and AF IP that treat every maneuver as a surprise and are constantly fighting the airplane to do what they want. Last piece of advice is you can do odd jobs for lessons, as well. I epoxy’d the garage of a local Chief Pilot and ended up getting 5 hours of instruction in a King Air out of it. Similar stories on helping do roof repairs, yard work, etc. Good luck!1 point

Prioritize your finances to allow for consistent training (at least 2-3 flights per week). Any less of a rate and you’ll spend more time and money over the course of getting your license. Look into student loans specifically for flying if you’re not generating enough money with a side job, internship, etc. I’d say $7-8k should be about right, +/- depending on where you live.1 point

Did these folks in process at vance the week prior to their drop night? I used to live for a Friday that had a drop night. Nothing would switch the mood more after hooking a ride and getting beat up at shotgun and stand up than getting drunk with your buddies at a drop. Would hate to see drops evolve into an email that you get from your CC congratulating you on E-3s to tinker. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app-1 points
