Years ago I was a guest of the FSB (former KGB), on a formal senior military exchange and had several official meetings (and an epic lunch meeting which included shots of vodka and cognac), at their headquarters in Moscow. They have what was at the time a classified museum in the headquarters and I was given a private tour. I asked and was allowed to take this picture. In the case is wreckage from Francis Gary Powers U-2, his pressure suit, items he was carrying and a portion of his parachute.5 points

The AvB page was updated on Friday to say the following: ”The Go Live date for the Aviation Bonus program is currently delayed due to myFSS scheduled maintenance timelines and a pending program update from OSD.”1 point

Fantastic and accurate cover photo there. 😑This announcement is pretty hilarious since the last edition of the ACJ talked about how DM was a terrible fit for AFSOC and that the city absolutely didn’t want SOF there. 😂1 point

For me, personally, I'd even do it DL/OL IF, big IF, they assigned it as your full time job from home station and you had no other officer or additional duties. Aircrew can still fly on occasion for RAP/Currency, but zero other duties. Also, the academic rigor needs to be made worthwhile.1 point

Sixty-three years ago today... the first of seven U-2's was shotdown. It's the most well-known of the 7. https://coldwar.org/default.asp?pid=15587&d=y&subid=6191 (Today is Monday... so wait 4 days if you are offended by my post).1 point

I'm not surprised, this is why you have do everything yourself. One dude thought he had shacked 20 years plus 1 day, based on their data. But that was too close for comfort so he extended his orders a few months. Good thing because, after the fact, they realized he'd have been short anyway. Must have lost a day here and there. As always, never trust anything admin in the AF. I trusted them on my 214s, but as I did a pre-retirment audit, I realized I'm missing 5 of the 12 DD214s I'm owed. Standard. Wrt PT tests...our base has always exempt PT tests for anyone within a year of retirement. Either way, it would be the damnest thing...every drill weekend I'd have a vision problem and not be able to make it to work. 🤣1 point

If you can get a your hands on an accurate t-6a model in the sim, yes it would help. "Chairflying" is a nebulous term that means a lot of things to a lot of different people. Maybe it means setting up cockpit posters on a lawn chair and rehearsing the interior inspection, maybe it means shutting your eyes reciting entry parameters and practicing your cross check for aerobatics, and maybe it means sitting at a desk with a map rehearsing your radio calls at different points on a departure. But anything that can help you chairfly with more fidelity is good. A VR cockpit is better than posters. A thrust master stick is better than a plunger. A screen is better than your imagination.. so to speak. Please do yourself a favor and find real UPT training materials and do your best to use the sim in a methodical way to practice those. Don't worry about negative training, it's far less of a threat than zero training. Any half-decent exposure you can get to a composite cross check at this point is money in the bank. obviously we're all human and will use a dope sim to do loops to music and mess around. But if you're actually serious, here's step 1: Find a t-6 checklist formatted like this and use it to identify every switch in the cockpit:1 point

Future pilot right here! Flying instruments via the sim would help. Maybe even engine starts and such (if it's the right aircraft). As a dude who chair flew the night before and who woke up early to chair fly nearly every sortie in UPT, having my own personal sim could have been useful.1 point

I may sound like every kid on baseops, but flying jets for the military has always been the ultimate goal for me. I research a lot about UPT, and sometimes the idea of how much they train frightens me because I worry if I can keep up enough to graduate and complete my dream. Just trying to look for anyway to better my chances and do the best I can.1 point

LoD for medical bills I thought...not SGLI. Definition: An inquiry used to determine whether a service member incurred an injury or disease while in a duty status; whether it was aggravated by military duty; and whether incurrence or aggravation was due to the service member’s intentional misconduct or willful negligence.1 point

I disagree From the article “In letters the Army sent this month to the affected aviators as well as to members of Congress, which were obtained by NBC News, it said it “realized” after conducting a “legal review of this policy” that the three-year BRADSO requirement has to be served separately.” I don’t think they knew. I would put money on the fact that, when they signed up, they asked if this commitment would be concurrent and I would put money on the fact that some personnel NCOs said yes. How many times have you talked to someone at MPF and gotten a confidently wrong answer from someone and gone with it only to find out later that the info was incorrect? I can give you multiple examples of personnel inconsistencies When I was awarded a Nav slot in 1994, the commitment had changed from 5 to 6 years. I had to cross out every 5 in my contract, change it to a 6 and initial it. One of my friends was at a Det that didn’t do that. Guess what? She got out at the 5 year mark. My kid was told in Jan 2021 that he could commission into the ANG from ROTC in 2021 under the Bow Wave program. Everyone was on board, he found a unit and got hired…then in April 2021 A1 ended the program and didn’t tell anyone…not the gaining state recruiters, not the ROTC det, not the unit. They did all the paperwork to submit in May only for AFPC to say “sorry, that program is over, the moose out front should have told you.” I could go on and on. So to make a blanket sweeping generalization that every single one of these aviators read a contract that apparently the entire Army didn’t even understand and they all need to man up? It’s another case of the member getting screwed and the incompetent bureaucrats run free. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums1 point

With the constant stream of bitching from this site with the force ran by straight white male fighter pilots, maybe it’s time to put the gay Jewish black chick tanker pilot in there. This is obviously satire. No way a Tanker pilot should be CSAF.1 point

It’s in their agreed-to contract that the Army is now enforcing. What’s the issue? They agreed to the terms! This is equivalent to all the sniveling weenies who ran up significant college debt saying, “Uncle Sam, it’s your fault. Forgive my debt!” Screw that! You agreed to sit in the pig stall, now go wallow in the mud and stop griping about how “unfair” your life is. Man up.1 point

You would be surprised at what they teach at "Colonel Charm School." They start by sending you a document attached to a congratulations note. Paraphrasing the document but mostly verbatim: 1. Don't ask to be stationed near your parents because they are ill, all Colonels have older parents and we can not accommodate. 2. Don't ask for an extension in one location so your kid can finish high school, all Colonels have kids in high school. 3. Expect to move a lot, the average Colonel moved every 18 months. The needs of the service were never more true than now that you are a Colonel. 4. Again, don't ask for the above, if you don't like these rules, thanks for your service, bye Felicia. I went through both the Group Commander Course and the Wing Commander Course prior to taking command and both were centered on "here are the things that gets Colonels in trouble: 1. The car - I shit you not...long discussions about the rules for using your White Top. The car went away after my command so I guess it was even more sensitive. 2. Money - Be careful and be sure about how you and those in your command spend govt funds...trust but verify. 3. Your dick - I forget the percentage but as I recall almost half of all instances of being removed from command were caused by misplacing your dick. There was a small section about being a dick...for a brief time the AF was actually going to stop caustic leaders but we all know that was just lip service.1 point

Claw's story is interesting, two Mig-29's in one engagement. Below is a great interview with both Rico and Claw describing what happened. Rico gives great credit to Paco Geisler, a former Red Eagle and legend F-15 Patch in the community. Nordo killed a Mig-25 in a family model, it was also the the first AMRAAM kill.1 point

You should be able to perfectly memorize the boldface & ops limits in 1-2 days. You'll be given this information when you get a stack of pubs and TOs when you begin. Fill out blank BF & OL until you could do so in your sleep. Once you've got that down start studying the for whatever academic test you've got next. You'll have plenty of time during the academics phase, you just have to make effective use of it. Before your class starts, enjoy the free time because you won't have much once you start.1 point

Welcome to the 2024 presidential election! Here is your ballot: O - A walking corpse who basically told the Railroad Unions that they can't have any teeth anymore because "reasons," yet for some reason is painted as Vladimir Lenin's grandson by the right O - A literal fascist who is running on the platform of "kill queers and deprive women of their rights" O - A cheeto in a wig who is the only former president in history to be impeached twice, and to be indicted for paying off a pornstar he had an affair with-1 points
