That's nice. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the average Ukrainian solider doesn't have a huge amount in common with some Wagner scumbag that volunteered to fight in Putin's war so they could get released early from prison for whatever murder/rape/theft charge they were in for. I'm also pretty sure that I have very little to nothing in common with Al Qaeda, the Taliban, or ISIS; I'm glad I did my part to help turn some of them into fertilizer. As I stated previously, good looking Wagnerites in that video/glad they're gonna be pushing up daisies.3 points

This is the best advice you’re going to get. I’ll also offer - do your best to love the one you’re with / bloom where you are planted. Once you start learning your mission set it becomes easier to become integrated with the community and enjoy the mission without looking back. Please don’t be the new guy who shows up day one telling everyone he doesn’t want to be there. It’s really hard to recover from that, and many communities even in the mobility world are quite proud. I am not saying you will do that but I’ve seen it rather often with young bucks. I was a 38 to mobility guy. At first I was pretty disappointed but I did my best to accept it and move on before I got to my first unit. If you do not like your mission, still knock it out of the park and there are many options to try something else.2 points
-
Pick based on mission and you’ll be happy. And even if you don’t get your choice, you’ll love where you end up unless you’re just a miserable person then it won’t make a difference where you go. If you’re interested in single pilot flying out of the T-1 track, I’d lean into U-28 because that community is going OA-1K and that’s only going to have a single pilot.2 points

oh no you don't...we KNEW pretty early on that covid was statistically a non event for young, healthy people. and turns out Fauci and his buddies at Pfizer KNEW it didn't prevent the spread...we were told straight up lies and coerced into taking a shot that provides zero protection and is very harmful...latest numbers i heard were 1 in 800 have side effects. that is a very high number and this shot should NEVER have been MANDATED. so don't give me this 20/20 bullshit....the warnings were being issued very early on but FUCKING CENSORED2 points

We grew up in very similar conditions, except my Dad hated tuna and was a plumber lol. I agree 100 percent with you. There is a victim mentality in all aspects of the younger American generation (get off my lawn @nsplayr lol). I don't feel sorry for people who make dumb decisions, especially if they dont learn from their mistakes or quibble about how they were not wrong. You and I both know how crazy back enders can live. Lol. Edit: I'm glad Capt Biff never had to fly with Amn Biff lol1 point

I didn't remember the ppl being that hard (sts) /s. Or getting invited to the good circle jerks (ones that get people promoted) for that matter. Lol I've been out for a few years now. But seriously, I agree with your statement about Officer, SNCO trust1 point

If I can tell a shooting story. Guys from the base want to come out and shoot on my place, sure come on out. They show up and ask if I want to shoot. Okay, I grab my Winchester 30-30 off the wall and put some bullets in my pocket, ready to go. These guys have several cases of guns, ammo, perch, filled up the back of my Kubota S&S. I'm like jeeze. Not bragging but(maybe a little bit) I usually out shot them. They were amazed that with a forty year old gun and iron sights I could nail the target. Wish I still had that gun that's in some river somewhere.1 point

Thanks. You’re a killer? And you like to kill for freedom, money or patriotic bullshit? So did the Russians, Wagner, Taliban, Nazis, Romans, Americans. We all did it for some sort of compensation. I don’t like the people I’ve killed anymore than the next guy, but I respect them. I can’t wait to find those WMDs in Iraq. I’m really glad we destroyed that whole country because of some really, really bad intel. I’m glad we got to burn a few civilians too that’s what real bad asses do. We are not as innocent as we like to believe. It’s a hard pill to swallow. Beleive what you want, but I have more in common with those dirtbags fighting for their country, freedom or patriotic beliefs than I do with the fine men and women working for us in Washington DC. I have more in common with a guy (bad guy, good guy, who cares) who shot his enemy than a Karen working at Home Depot.1 point

It is almost certain that he would only fly a fighter during the course and then go back to heavies for his test assignments.1 point

Even if they knew the contrary to be true, would they really come out and admit it? They are all political appointees serving under the current regime.1 point

It’s a good thing there’s a low probability of a Robot Rebellion; otherwise we would fail as a nation at that too.1 point

TPS is probably your only route to fly a fighter. Teach UPT and/or get into the U-2 or B-2 as other options to fly 38s…but you should be going to those because you want to fly those aircraft/missions, not as an alternate way to go fly a 38. Anything beyond what I just mentioned might as well be purged from your mind, ain’t going to happen on AD, and still very small odds in the guard.1 point

Possible? Anything is possible but its incredibly rare and so unlikely its not worth planning a career out of it. In my 14 years AD they only had one crossflow window, that was only available to a very small audience of eligible pilots (based on their time on station, duration of PCS, years of service etc...) and they only selected an incredibly small number of people. The fighter community generally doesn't have an interest in taking crossflows and has found it has worked better for them to suffer undermanned than to deal with perceived cultural friction. There is probably some merit to some of this, a lot of the rest is probably ball wash, regardless, the AF has by and large decided it is not a good idea. Being a heavy pilot isn't all that bad. Its a pretty hefty pay raise when you account for all of the per diem dollars of being on the road constantly. You will lead earlier in your career because you will actually have enlisted aircrew hanging around the squadron. You will have a slightly easier time transitioning airlines as your experience is more relevant, dont need to worry about centerline thrust restrictions and that bullshit. You get to go to some cool places fighter dudes never see, like St John's. My best advice is to discount the possibility of crossflow for now because in the near term you have an incredibly important decision to make regarding the platforms that are available to you--and fighters aren't one of them. Whether crossflow happens again or not, your success in life is largely going to depend on your ability to fly the platform you earn out of UPT. So you should look at the mission sets that are available to you and decide what you find interesting, what you can see yourself doing long term. Read the airframe and mission thread and ask your IPs. Air Refueling, Airlift, C2ISR, SOF, etc.... they all have pros and cons.1 point

Very few officers work in the veterans space. Its really sad. Its like all that fluff about caring for your troops and looking out for them was horse shit for 20 years. Good on you for getting involved afterward. I'm an O-4 and like you I usually find myself uniquely at the top in this space.1 point

Not ideal... but certainly a better plan than the Navy's idea of a great recruiting theme.1 point

Your MOPP gear will fit properly. It was a myth leadership used to say why we couldn't have beards.1 point

I don't really find it funny. He is another middle aged white dude who is making a joke out of something that is disproportionately affecting a single race. He might not see the wider context but that is no excuse--at his position he has an obligation to know better. I like seeing warriors in high office as well but they carry character flaws as often as anyone else. Especially SOCOM types. Look how many scandals were uncovered in the last decade with drug smuggling/addiction/abuse and murder for hire schemes.1 point

Meh, I'd say it's a bit different than the personnelist who wants to sport his beard to fit in at the coffee shop. There really seems to be a strong infatuation with beards recently. I don't particularly hate them, but I get why the military/companies are against them. On another note, you guys see this dudes first duty assignment. Irakloin AB in Crete, probably not a bad place to chill for a first assignment.1 point

Good to hear someone has balls to make the call at least every once in a while. Sounds like a douche getting exactly what was coming his way.1 point

Oh it's been noted. I'll leave this PSA on here for those getting ideas from said demographic you highlight: We recently FEB'd an 11F from PIT. Most people in this enterprise know how statistically outlier that is, if they have been doing this longer than a tour. And the reasons for that being the COA have much more to do with outlook and attitude, than any intent on the part of 19th to make an example out of anyone. This is unprecedented, especially given the background. BL, let it be a warning, approaching a formal AETC course like this is either beneath you or not about you, is not going to get you back to "your fighter". A real bum's bet to even think AETC would go for something like that. Yet some fucked around and found out. In the words of Alonzo1 point

No not at all I think there is just a point where in the long term it is better for us and the Ukrainians that accepting some of their territory was lost is better than further war and the cost of further fighting. Not a fan at all of Russia or Putin. Free Ukraine will need large long term aid, I’m cool with that, it’s just that at some point if it can be had, ceasefire and focus on rebuilding. I’m also okay with a surprise deployment of 25k US boots on Free Ukraine with no end date to prevent Putin from trying round 2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Paul, there are no guides like that "Guide to Avoiding Retreating Brain Stall" like the sold in Daleville back in the day. Moosepileit's recs are good and of course, the boldface/caps and ops limits of the T-6 would be nice to have down, but certainly not mandatory on day 1. I think there is some good T-6 gouge here on BOPS. I would shoot for "familiarize" as opposed to "memorize" at this point.1 point

Is this the right thread?.... I have a Ferrari I'd like to trade/sell. It looks too awesome and It's too fast and I've been picking up too many chicks. I'm looking for an early 80's Datsun or Peugeot. Preferably an automatic. Thanks1 point

Wow. Didn't expect that from you. You've been had. Talk to some Black Sea desk officers and FAOs about Ukraine from about 2000 up until Russia invaded. Ukraine is one of the most crooked and corrupt nations on earth. I understand an active duty person flapping the party line, but dude, do you really believe we should put 25K Americans into that cesspool country that exploited America and NATO for everything it could? And do you really think we are putting a dent into the Russian threat? They have nukes. Ukraine doesn't matter just like Afghanistan didn't matter in '89. The Russians still have nukes. Let them take that corrupt shithole, then they will really be bleeding ruples and blood trying to control it. You've been had.-1 points

What in the ku klux klan are you implying? Yes, Colón-López is 1st generation Puerto Rican. Yes, we exist. Not all of us are phenotypically mestizo, hence the white hispanic moniker. Latter which is mostly an Anglo-centering invention anyways. We don't make such distinctions. We're all just Ricans/Boricuas amongst each other (well, except carpet-bagging NYC-born and raised Nuyoricans like AOC, I'll cred-check her all day, she can't gaslight me lol). Don't misunderstand, our culture can be colorist, just like most Caribbean LAMA and South America, but we don't obsess over complexion to the insufferable degree Anglos and CONUS-raised Hispanics do. As to Rambo's comments, I don't think his Hispanic background, nor whatever "white passing" critique some Anglos may want to latch on to, is relevant as to whether they are to be considered contemptible. Douchebags come in all ethnic flavors and colors. Now to quote ol Rodney, can't we all just get along? 😄-1 points
