I flew that Patriot battalion home from Kuwait City Itnl on a CRAF flight and Battalion Exec was on the Jumpseat explaining what happened. I’m not sure what was/wasn’t classified but it involved a lot more than IFF and both were avoidable.1 point

Interesting datapoint on the Jordan Neely /Daniel Penny case. They both have crowd funding sites set up. Neely’s has raised just over $100k. Penny has $1.65 million as of this post.1 point

Not saying it never happens... but 4 in one day? Over your own country? Have we ever lost a US aircraft to a US SAM system over the US?1 point

Lol, well I purposely try my best to stay out of the D vs R food fights. That said, your post got me interested, and the results might surprise you. All but one of my favorite layover cities has a D Mayor. In fact, two of my favorite layover cities (TVC and GRR) are D run cities, in a D run state. I think it's simply the fact that people in these cities don't live at the far ends of the political spectrum. Also, the people that run them appear to truly care about making their towns great to live in, not make a name for themselves or fight the other party.1 point

Jam, You are so off base it’s scary. First Neely had over 40 prior arrests, and in the recent past he arbitrarily punched a 67 year old woman in the face messing up her jaw..He wasn’t provoked by the lady, just decided to punch her. He threatened everyone on the train, so don’t try to Philadelphia Lawyer your way around the truth. This guy was mentally unstable, and a predator. My Daughter lives in NYC and takes the subway, I grew up in the Bronx..the media is making this shithe$# look like he was some innocent guy, who enjoyed impersonating Michael Jackson on the subway,Far from it! He ranked in the top 50, I repeat TOP 50 criminals in New York City…he got 110% of what he deserved.dot period. You’re clueless if you defend this clown. read below..play the game, pay the price Neely had committed a series of violent crimes in New York City. In 2015, he kidnapped a 7-year-old girl. In 2019, he punched a 64-year-old man in the face. In 2021, he punched a 67-year-old woman in the face as she exited the subway, causing serious injuries. Despite being arrested 44 times, some netizens feel that Neely has never been held accountable for his actions and has not faced "real justice" for terrorizing the people of New York City.1 point

Scoffing our elders wisdom is American as apple pie. We conflate technological aptitude with wisdom in this culture and it’s pretty sad.1 point

Reminds me of being a regional pilot!!! On my first flight at the regionals, I remember looking at the passengers entering and thinking they have no idea that i had never actually physically flown an E-175. Lol. The check airman flew the departurare out of LAX, I landed somewhere in the mid west. I cant remember where. Lol. What cracked me up the most about the regionals, was you'd fly some famous people every now and then and out of LAX. No shit, I flew Ron Howard from LAX to SMF, I thought it was hilarious to fly someone of his status on a regional jet. Lol He too likes to save on airfare.1 point

It may not be the entire Air Force, but I'll tell you something that's wrong with ACC: ePEX. We've had it now for what... 20 years? And it's getting worse. Holy shit, PEX is literally killing those that use it daily. Our entire Information Technology enterprise is a mess. The AF puts the "IT" in "shit".1 point

SOS in correspndance AND in residence...really, WTF is the point! Masters to make Major - sure I'll sign up for a class on the weekend or the few hours a night I have to myself, I hate seeing my family anyway... Praying for a good VML. Hoping a UAV doesn't get sent your way. Uprooting the family every three years to who knows where. Worrying about TAMI 22 (AF doesn't care if you were DG in every course and are being groomed for WIC, if you don't have xx amount of hours on x date....UAV it is for you!) Being gone over half the year. As far as the hoping your unit doesn't get UAV's....if this does happen you can go find work with another guard/reserve squadron. The ARC isn't all the end all be all by stretch of the imagination. There tends to be fewer AGR jobs and more Technicians, these days, which is more pay but no 20 and out. The full time jobs can be hard to come by at times, but sometimes they are there for the taking. You really won't get the diversity of flying in lots of different places (provided you are lucky enough to get more than one assignment in your airframe on AD). If there is bad leadership....your stuck with them until they move on, which can take forever. Being part time, it's hard to stay proficient...even if you want to, sometimes the days and dollars just aren't there. The next BRAC is always around the corner....but again, you can go find work elsewhere. ARC Pros Choosing where you live. Flying the same if not more than your active duty bros...even as a part timer. Ability to move to another location/airframe (of YOUR choosing). The ability to go part time, and just fly in the military. The ability to sit out a deployment....have to keep those civilian employers happy as well. This one can not be emphasized enough.......4 day work weeks!1 point

Guard and Res are great as long as the unit keeps their airframes. In the recent past, ANG/Res have not only converted to RPVs but have lost their flying mission all together. What makes life great is that you are always throwing the dice. Death and taxes are the only guarantees that I know of. Happy Tax Day, damn it.1 point

Go up for one or two aerobatics flights - it can only help. I did that before UPT and it gave me a slight edge on aero at UPT because I had already spun several times as well as done aileron rolls, loops, cuban eight's and cloverleafs. Sure it is totally different than doing acro in a tweet, but the basic concepts of acro manueuvers are the same. I totally disagree with people who say "they will teach you that at UPT" or "you will have plenty of time to do acro at UPT." In my opinion I had an advantage by having seen and thought about acro before my classmates did. I don't know if I would spend all of the money to get fully aerobatic qualified (I think the guy I flew with said you need 5 flights to get qualified - each flight was around $200). Good luck.1 point

Ditto what AG said. There are plenty of folks running around down here wearing enlisted aircrew wings, former booms, engineers, loadmasters, AWACS aircrew, etc. It seems like a great way to prove yourself at your unit, and you have the added advantage to learn about military aviation. I don't know a whole lot about the -130 community, but in my experiences, some aircrew who don't spend a lot of time on the flightdeck tend to focus on their job back there (and rightfully so) but they don't get involved with the actual flying aspect. Don't be that guy. Be the guy who asks the questions in the briefings and expands his knowledge about what the pilots and navs are doing, be the guy bugging the engineer about systems and sitting in the jump seat when your duties permit. It will pay dividends at UPT and Little Rock.1 point
