The previous NCAA testosterone requirement for a male to compete as a female was to bring the testosterone levels down to or below 10 nmol/L. Problem is the normal range for women is .5-2.4 (https://www.healthline.com/health/low-testosterone/testosterone-levels-by-age#normal-testosterone-levels), so the biological male that was born with a biological propensity for larger muscle mass, larger bones, faster muscle movements could compete as a female, despite those previously mentioned advantages AND with still having 4-20 times the testosterone levels as the women he is competing against. How is that fair? Sports have rules for a reason and it is to make it a fair competition. To your second point, there are very few, if any, sports where women are better than men, so no one cares about a biological woman competing in as a man or even as a woman. Look at the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc. Do any of them have rules against a woman playing? Not that I know of. But there are none because when you get to that level of competition, you're talking the top .01% of athletes. There are no women in the top .01% for those sports. That's why Serena and Venus Williams, possibly two of the best female tennis players ever, both lost to a man that was ranked 102. Third, it is not hate. The left is quick to throw out 'hate' because 'hate' is bad and they only have emotional arguments. But, like calling someone racist, if you say it all the time it becomes meaningless. I don't hate these individuals, I feel sorry for them. 40% of transgender people have actively attempted suicide. They have a mental illness and our society has decided that it is better to play into their delusion than help them. If I was walking across a bridge and saw someone about to jump off, would it be hateful of me to tell them they shouldn't? Should I indulge their desire to kill themself and tell them I think they're brave or should I pull them back from the edge and get them help? Which of these actions is loving and which is hateful? These people are actively hurting themselves (and even worse, hurting children) and somehow it is 'hateful' of me to not give them my full support.10 points

I'll just point out for perspective: It's really sad this conversation is even happening. Men are men and should compete athletically against men. Women are women and should compete athletically against women. I don't know when that changed, but the change is wrong. The end.7 points

Sometimes looking at these threads can be discouraging. It seems like nearly everyones scores are 90+ across the board, stellar GPAs, etc... Well heres some hope from an average joe who was just picked up by a heavy unit... Here is my AFOQT Super Score P:82 CSO: 61 ABM:63 ACAD: 31 Verb: 51 Quant: 20 PCSM:85 My point here is that its possible, even if your scores aren't amazing, you may just have to work a little bit harder. You NEED to network with someone at the squadron you want to attend, preferably someone within the hiring process or that has a good relationship with someone in the process. You will likely never get selected for an interview with potentially hundreds of applicants when you have scores like mine. They need to be able to put a face to the name. I applied to 5 units, got TBNT from 3 that i knew no one at and 2 interviews at the others because i did. Securing the interview is the most difficult part of this process, once you get that then its just up to you being yourself. If you're introverted like me, push yourself to talk to folks during the socials even if its intimidating or draining. People love to talk about themselves just keep asking questions, even if you already know the answers.2 points

He never made it to GO, speculation about the JQP article of him firing five Sq/CC’s in a year. The current Dyess -130 Wing King is a buddy of mine and took over the 41st when he fired the previous Sq/CC. He’s an avid Rat hater.2 points

Welcome to AFSOC...based on past experience, AFSOC will do almost ANYTHING to protect one of their GO's. Lie on an AFORMs sheet to get flight pay...no problem, fly a CV-22 into the trees...nothing to see here, create a toxic climate...meh get over it.1 point

Strange though, that seems like something to fire a SQ/CC & DO about unless it was sanctioned by the SOG.1 point

Describing the draft UEI critical/significant deficiencies as a train wreck would be like describing gang rape as a mild social deviation; it’s really really bad. Totally agree it was a leadership failure at multiple levels. The issues and problems were so pervasive across all the Groups in the Wing that canning just the Ops Grp/CC is like putting a bandaid on an arterial bleed. And it was specifically said it wasn’t UEI related though I guess you could describe the issues in the Ops Grp as not UEI related, just uncovered during the inspection. Either way this place is fucked up like a football bat and I fear we’re in for a rough 6 months.1 point

I think Cat 5 has been eagerly hoping someone would provide a slight justification so he could fire them and prove what a non-nonsense tough guy he is. It should have been a WG/CC, but that wouldn’t be the clean kill he was looking for. No one will give 2 shits about this one on a personal level (he wasn’t an easy man to work for), so objective achieved without any blowback or future complications. Machiavellian move. Current & prospective O6s in the command should take heed.1 point

Fired it at the range alongside the Glock 43X and 48. I liked the Macro the best. Smooth action. The compensator built into the slide is nice. Grip size is absolutely perfect for a mid-large hand owing to the semi-double stack. Trigger is smooth with a very consistent break, while a bit heavy, but that's expected out of a conceal carry pistol. The price, however, was not ideal ($850 before tax at the time), which led me to get the G48 for nearly half that price. The Macro is definitely high on the wish list.1 point

Heard an argument once that I haven’t ever heard a valid argument against. You put 100 people on an island 60 women and 40 men.... in 100 years it'll be a populated island. You put 60 trans women and 40 men with the same scenario on same said island, in 100 years you'll find 100 skeletons of 100 men. Feelings don't trump science.1 point

The "trans" issue breaks down along two broad categories: (1) People who are either mentally ill or who are suffering from extreme emotional trauma. (2) People who have a fetish to be seen as or to become a facsimile of the opposite sex. Those in category (1) have no business receiving hormones or surgery to treat their issue. It's inappropriate regardless of how old they are or if they are able to mimic the act of giving consent. These people cannot meaningfully consent to surgery that renders body parts non-functional. The only appropriate treatment for people in this category is mental health intervention and counseling. People in category (2) can get surgery and hormones as long as they're 18 and pay for 100% it and all follow-on complications themselves. Insurance should have absolutely nothing to do or say about such optional procedures.1 point

I’m guessing I’m one of your examples of hate. I don’t hate or fear the mentally disturbed, confused, and targeted but i have deep disdain for those who mutilate those people, knowing full well of their fragile mental/psych issues. They are destroying lives and mutilating people who need help not encouragement in their delusion. My derogatory language is directed at medical personnel, politicians, deluded family, and supporters and the whole trannie ideology. Screw them all, you’re killing the people you claim to support.1 point

Trans men aren’t men. Trans women aren’t women. Men can’t become women. Women can’t become men. There is nothing else to say. Call me whatever you want. I don’t care. This is pure fucking madness.1 point

It shocks me the amount of things the Army has been given. I’ve worked with some phenomenal, intelligent Army bros who are empowered to lead and get shit done, the only problem is they’re in a category that makes up 0.0069% of the Army.1 point

As far as sharing a house, I know they were going to eventually start offering that option (they do at Corpus), but based on what they told me, with the renovations/new house building and the waiting list for housing, that won't be an option until they finish building some of those houses and the wait list goes down. Give them a call, it can't hurt to ask The Landing at Vance Vance dorms, based on the pictures I've seen of the Columbus dorms, are nearly the same. Small kitchen, living/bedroom area, bathroom and closet. The furniture even looks the same. They are small, but you won't be there long. The dorms at Vance are also directly across the street from the OSS (where most of your academics will be) and across a street/parking lot from the sim building and flightline.1 point

Here we go again....perhaps we should have a separate forum for "should I study before UPT." I was not even going to reply to the topic this time, but since so many other people did I will add my $.02 to it. I studied a lot before UPT and felt it gave me a great advantage. For most of Tweets, my classmates would come to me if they could not find an IP to ask GK questions to. I had the boldface/ops limits memorized before arriving at CBM and had already put a dent in the systems knowledge (I studied those flashcards that you can download from gouge websites). During academics I really studied systems and EP's (section I and III of the -1) hard - much to the dismay of my other classmates who wondered why I was studying more than the easy academics syllabus called for. I am not sure why people say studying beforehand is useless because "you won't understand it anyway." If you read about things like how flaps, attenuators, nosewheel steering, speed brakes, and landing gear are the hydraulic components in the Tweet, how is that not understandable and a waste of time? That is knowledge that you are going to be expected to know on day 3 or so up until the day you graduate from Tweets. Anyway, I am with Hacker on this one. You will do fine in UPT if you relax beforehand and just be reactive and study the stuff as it comes. You will also be ahead of the game and it will relieve a little pressure from the first 1/2 year at UPT if you get a jump on it right now and start studying hydraulics, fuel, electrics, ops limits, and EP's (especially notes/warning/cautions).1 point
-
As many others have pointed out, you don't *have* to study anything prior to UPT in order to succeed. Also, once you start UPT, you have gotten on an ass-pain train that is not going to stop for about 2 years, so it's in your best interests to just enjoy your time with no responsibilities. That being said, when I went to UPT I'd had a copy of the Tweet -1 that I'd been studying for months. A student I met pointed out some of the things for me to focus my reading on (notes, cautions, warnings, etc) and that gave me a *serious* advantage once we hit the flightline. So, it's your choice -- listen to those of us who speak from experience when we say "just relax -- you'll be glad you did," or grab that -1 and start the pain early.1 point
-
I completely agree. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Don't waste your time before UPT. You haven't had this type of training before so you won't be able to retain anything you study. There will be plenty of study time when you start. For now, start looking and the Boldface and Ops limits. That's all you need. HD1 point

Rback, Live by the gouge, die by the gouge. The gouge is what you use after you've done your readings to reinforce what you've read. It includes notes, flashcards and study aids. The icing on the cake is when you take a critical eye to the gouge and verify it's accuracy. If you do this, you'll find some erroneous and dated material, and in the process you'll become the expert in the material that you need to be to not only succeed, but succeed well. If you don't, you'll get the rote memorization of facts and figures, which, if taken out of context, will show up in the table top briefings, check rides, and shotgun stand ups and leave you looking like you have a very poor grasp of the material.1 point

It's not disingenuous. Maybe not you personally, but you know damn well there's a large number of people who are against trans athletes simply out of bigotry and are not open to any compromise or regulations to make the game more fair at all. No one in their right mind thinks Lebron James should be able to go to the WNBA overnight. But if the right amount of treatment is done to minimize the advantage to as little as possible or ideally 0, then who cares? And it's worth noting that it's only ever trans women that seem to get the hate. Would you really want a trans man to compete in women's sports just because they were born a biological women? Of course not, that wouldn't be fair-1 points
