Yeah. But something has to give. I dont think there is an easy fix. Educating Americans about what is fucked with the status quo, electing people who care about helping others (not lining their pockets) enacting some sort of term limit for congress, making lobbying illegal and a bunch of other changes will help. Problem is, how do you convince the rule makers to change the rules? We cant. Voting doesn't work. It's a lie to make us feel like we have some sort control of our Country's destiny. We don't. We are just being kept pacified with the current system. We (Americans) argue against each other for the stupidest shit I believe humanity has ever seen: bonus holes, abortion, pushing a crazy agenda that helps a very small portion of society (trans movement) and etc... All the while, the middle class is disappearing and the dollar is capable of buying less and less. We have a complulsive liar as our Commander and Chief.. How can he pass a security clearance when there is actual evidence of him telling lies? The other option, has banged a porn star while he was still married. What about all of the rich dudes who banged underage girls at Epstein's Island? Brushed under the rug. Our government is corrupt. This country will fail if we stay on the current course.2 points

If that’s the bonus hole. Does that make the back door the main hole? Asking for a friend2 points

https://twitter.com/OliLondonTV/status/16743LGBT Foundation recommends people use the word ‘bonus hole’ instead of ‘vagina’ in order to avoid upsetting trans people. Ok, all of you who blindly support this wokeism are Bonus Holes. How's that?2 points

But nearly half the country supports this type of nonsense…even several guys on this site.1 point

Your last active duty day will be the 31st. you retire (and become a Mr.) on the 1st.1 point

It means they want to strike. If approved, they'll go into a 30 day cooling off period, at which point they can exercise self help (strike). The president can order them to work for 30 days, after which they enter another 30 day cooling off period. The president can do that one more time, with the subsequent cooling off period. At that point the strike can happen or congress can impose a contract. Or, if released, the strike can happen and the pilots can shut down the operation. At least that's how it was explained to me by a ALPA national rep.1 point

It means they believe they are at an impasse and they want to continue to move toward a strike. It's difficult to actually get the govt to allow an airline to strike... almost impossible under this Administration. And even if they did, there are (I think) three 30-day cooling down periods in the process. it's mainly symbolic.1 point

Good point on downplaying certain aspects of the jobs as we all have our justifications. Either night flying isn’t so bad, sorts are OK, pax aren’t a problem, FA’s are pretty good for the most part, terminals are easy and not too crowded, TSA and KCM is a easy benefit, etc. Overall, constant nights suck, Sorts suck, Pax suck on or off the plane, some FA’s as well as bad Capts and FO’s suck, crowds suck, checkpoints suck, switching planes suck, etc. We all have our priorities and mitigate or sacrifice ourselves to BS to ensure our desires are met. Whether it’s the $$$, schedule, base, home time, travel opportunities, type of flying I’m sure we can all agree that no one wanted to fly Pax or fly the Sort as a dream come true. It was something else, we are just dealing with it. Some do better than others no doubt. Although I do very well it’s obviously the lifestyle (Rt seat senior) and not the coin that keeps me away from Sorts, Pax, Domestic Groundhog Day, undesirable long trips away (better trips and a couple of weeks max or split up), etc. *I sacrifice left seat pay as I could not pick any extended time off, great globe trotting trips and highest paying trips as needed. Flying around hardly in uniform (T-Shirt, etc) and never being confined away from your bathroom, sleep quarters, bags and consumables is priceless. It’s not the pax as much for me as that dang door. As you age you will understand. Everyone’s priorities are different so I planned ahead and got lucky for me specifically.1 point

The Texas freeze (hit -2 at my house) and power loss was also a problem due to environmental improvement. The gas transportation system in the past used natural gas powered pumps to move gas. Well, we couldn't have that because gas is a fossil fuel and therefore evil. Electric pumps would be environmentally friendly so the gas pumps are replaced. When the electric grid froze up, the gas power plants went offline. Genius.1 point

A sure fire way to destroy the next 2 days of your life. Getting old is bullshit. Disclaimer: No, I haven’t learned my lesson yet, and probably never will!1 point

Same as always, work hard play hard. You’ll be busy no matter which base you go to. You’ll go to some really cool places and some not so nice places (fun in of itself). 3000’ dirt LZs and unlike the dirty H model (I jest), you’ll land there as a brand new Co. Airdrop is a lot of fun. There is a lot of GK to maintain and mission planning can result in some long days. Leadership are generally good dudes and gals these days, and there is definitely a push to be more survivable in the first island chain so expect to be challenged when you get to the unit and be in the vault studying quite a bit. PM me with more questions.1 point

They’re also going to make you get a shit ton of other vaccines. Also you may be ordered to fly until your death if it comes down to it. Or, if we’re all out of planes, you may be ordered to pick up a rifle and fight until you die defending your base. Or, even worse, you may be the one issuing those orders. Or maybe the orders are to kill a million civilians - including women, children, and other Christians - using nuclear weapons, which will likely cause a retaliatory attack that kills your family and friends. All for a war started by an old man that half the country doesn’t agree with politically. I guess you’re cool with all those things. But getting the COVID vaccine, now that’s a bridge too far for a Christian. So if you’re quitting because you don’t want to get a shot for political reasons (religious reasons? nah), then I say adios and thanks for making the decision early. Wouldn’t want to find out about it after you’ve wasted years of everyone’s effort and money getting you CMR. Good luck in civilian life, I’m sure you’ll find an airplane job if you work hard enough. Please pay your taxes.1 point

Fourfans nailed it (sts)! Not a religious "man" (is that hate speech?) by any means but I respect your religious beliefs as I do with all things people hold dearly to them. I too got that deliciously filling series of Anthrax shots and others. I remember small pox vaccines in Feb 2003. There were bandaids (and jellyfish) all over the place lol. The horror. In the military you may be asked to do things that make you lose sleep at night. Think about that and the shot may be less of a sin.1 point

Lots to unpack there, but I'll give it a shot. One conservative Christian man to another...in front of everyone. A: The covid shot requirement does not take military aviation off the table for you. It might right now, but not forever. Eventually either the military will withdraw the requirement, or there will be another option of non-stem cell based vaccination (like an actually researched and studied non-emergency-use vaccine should be). It all depends on your basis for rejection. I, for one, had no defensible basis, as I happily and ignorantly received 8 rounds of the anthrax vaccine without asking twice, as I was young and stupid. That proved to be 100% risk/0% reward. Long story short, make sure you sincerely understand your basis for refusal, and that it's not just under the "I will not comply" category just because you don't like it. That's a childish defense based on ignorant emotion. If you have a sincere objection based on logic, stand firm on it, and find another way to your dream. If you say "it was my dream..." and hold that with the same hand as "I won't get the shot because..." and expect sympathy, you'll get none...at all...especially here. No one is stepping on your dream. You are holding a personal belief higher than your dream, and that's no one's choice but yours. Pick one. 2: Decide now what precisely that 'itch' is. If it's to fly, there are absolutely no all-denying barriers to you. Serious obstacles? Yes, but nothing completely stopping you. Life will suck. Pay will be low. Hours will blow. For a while. Make up your mind that you want to fly, then find a way. There. Are. Many. Even from a military background, I've yet to meet two guys with the same exact path. From the civil side, there are innumerable ways to end up in an airplane. It will heavily depend on where you're willing to live and what lifestyle you're willing to accept to get to your desired end state. Even then, the end state will change by the time you get there. Accept that as fact and your life will be easier. If you are a family man, and you want to be a pilot, your family life will suffer to some degree or another. Schedules suck. You will be away from home. You will miss birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc. But you were wanting a military life...so you should have been ok with that, right? Because military life is like that, only worse: you're gone longer, to worse places, for less money, while leaving your family is bad locations away from family, and oh yeah, people may be actively trying to kill you. Decide WITH YOUR FAMILY what level of life style you're willing to accept, then get to grinding. (If you exclude your bride from that decision, you will end up divorced) D: A 'standard' civilian track can take as little as 3 years to be in the right seat of a big jet. One track: earn your CFI, teach your ass off in little airplanes, get hired by a regional/cargo feeder, then get hired by a lower tier ACMI...OR go to an aviation academy like what United is starting...OR go fly a sky tractor crop dusting...OR go fly king-airs for CBP...OR work to get hired by a fractional...OR...fly bush cargo in Anchorage...OR...the list goes on. Get to studying. As much of a dumpster fire as AirlinePilotCenter forums are, the other side of that website is pretty informational, and you can find some pretty good data in the forums if you're willing to wade through the BS. Decide that no job is beneath you, and you'll be fine. If you choose the millennial attitude that some jobs are just too hard or too underpaid or too dirty, then yeah, your 'itch' will never be scratched, and you will be forever limited. If you choose that road, that's no one's fault but your own. If they say you need a vaccine to get the job, and you quit looking, that's your fault, not theirs. In short: Nut up or Shut up. There is no better time to get into aviation. Decide what you will or won't do, then get to work. P.S. I dis-recommend SE Asia. That results in a different kind of 'itch' that I've heard never goes away.1 point
