I’m currently on mil leave finishing up my retirement but looking at the January Bid lines out of Orlando they varied from 60-80 hours, some of them with 18 days off for the month. Since I’ve been gone for a couple years, I’m not sure what the high time flyers are getting, so I’ll leave that question for an active guy. Before I left though, the sky was the limit and as long as it was legal and you could put it on your board, you could bank $$$. Personally, life is great. I ended up having to take my ex back to court and won full custody of the kids (hence the reason I am putting the airline life on hold temporarily and finishing up the mil career). We are all extremely happy. I did end up getting remarried and she has been amazing and my kids all call her “mom”. My older two have pretty much nothing to do with their birth mom, and my youngest is the only one that goes for any sort of visitation. It’s funny what a little bit of wisdom, maturity and life experience will do for the second time around. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app11 points

I wish SCOTUS would clear their schedule for 2 months and eradicate all the garbage/unconstitutional laws in CA and NY, all of them. Like when you PCS and give away/trash all that random shit you don’t want to move. The country would benefit hugely.3 points

HAHAHAHA!!! Fuck, you got me. Who is this? Chang?? I fell for that one hook, line, and sinker. Well played. Sorry for the thread derail. Goodnight3 points

By not getting picked up AD, thus incurring another 10 yrs AD. Go guard…it’s way better. I didn’t think that would require much elaboration.3 points

Wow. I just woke up and read what I wrote. Have a laugh on me. Sometimes SrA Biff strikes without warning and Capt Biff couldn't stop him lol. Woohoo.3 points

I never got to go to UPT. Did the CSO thing, and had a good time in the Buff for over a decade. Covered most the Pacific, sent some ISIS goons to goat paradise. You can still fly and have a good career. Or… I got my CFI, taught on the side and built hours. Now I’ve got my ATP and I’m flying charter, building lots of time and trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up 😂 You’re going to have opportunities, no matter what.3 points

Why are you even in this forum if you’re in the ANG? Stay in your lane. And you obviously seem like a guy/gal with poor leadership skills… or one who probably hasn't even held a real leadership position. This board places leadership first to keep toxic folks (somewhat like yourself) from ever getting in key leadership positions.2 points

Of all the hand guns, I think I dislike the M9 the most. Ruger has some cool stuff though. I'm thinking about a Mark IV lite with a silencer for plinking at the range.2 points

SWA: Seems like a pretty big win on most fronts. The pay is higher than it seems due to the TFP to hours conversion being a completely made up metric. But with guarantee being a lot higher than the other airlines, I just don’t see how anyone could complain about the pay. The new “stackable” overrides will absolutely punish the company if they don’t do a good job running an efficient and effective airline and make the FOs and Capts an absolute metric $#!+ ton of money. The union didn’t even want to secretly cost analysis the ask because they knew if it somehow leaked out, the sticker shock would cause SWA to immediately balk. From what it looks like to me, we got everything we asked for but as always there are people who won’t be happy. I had been on the fence to jump to Delta, and glad I didn’t. With no PBS, the best work rules in the industry, highest guarantee, being able to pickup, drop and move my schedule pretty freely and more scheduled days off than anyone else, it fits for me and my family’s lifestyle. I’ve done enough international flying in the military, doing it for another 25 years doesn’t move the needle for me. I may jump on the ETOPS train out in Las Vegas after the kids graduate just to see how I like that schedule, but overall, I am extremely happy. For the first time in my SWA career, I would actually recommend coming here. Just my 2 cents. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app2 points

That’s a tough development. Sorry to hear that. Whatever you end up doing, know that the Air Force needs studs at every AFSC. You can make a giant difference in mission and morale by your competence and leadership in support roles. Quick story…WW2 kicks off and my grandpa, his cousins, and brother all left their town of Lakeside, SD (population N/A because it was just an incorporated farming community) to sign up. My grandpa only had a 9th grade education and wouldn’t be accepted by any service but the Merchant Marines as a baker. He was very disappointed but did his best. Fast forward to 1944 off the Philippines when Typhoon Cobra hit (3 destroyers sank, over 700 killed). From his rodeo background, he was one of the only guys that wasn’t violently ill and ended up relaying the orders to help control the ship and save the crew. He was also the POC from the ship to Admiral Halsey and was personally cited for heroism and exceptional performance by Halsey after the typhoon. The whole point of this story is that I don’t know if there can be much more disappointment after Pearl Harbor than being told you’re too dumb to do anything in the military and can only bake bread for the Merchant Marines. However, you never know when your number will be called. Even if that had never happened, baking bread and providing good food for men is a worthwhile and important role that you should be proud of. Whatever you end up doing, it is also a worthwhile role and an honorable profession that deserves your best effort.2 points

https://www.google.com/amp/s/fox40.com/news/california-connection/new-firearms-related-laws-california-2024/amp/ I'm gonna have to start a weapons smuggling ring buying legal weapons in the US and taking them to other places in the US. Newsom likes guns in his butt.1 point

Holy shit! You’re right!! My bad. Have fun planning next year’s Christmas party. I hope that gets you the leadership opportunities necessary for a pilot slot. I was just offering some free advice to someone who just got kicked in the nuts and gets to wait around another year for an AD pilot slot, from a guy who has experience in both AD/ANG, and can unequivocally tell you (along with everyone else), that you might want to spend this next year applying to Guard and Res units too. Nevermind, I’m sure you’ll figure it out on your own.1 point

If the guard/reserves interests you, I'd highly recommend checking out https://milrecruiter.com/afrc-uft-selectionboards/. My buddy that was not selected last year applied this year to reserves and found out he was picked up weeks later. Their next application is due 31 Dec (five days from today). There is an option to apply unsponsored with your PCSM being above 90. There are a couple other things too (no ETPs and willing to fly any tanker/transport aircraft with the reserves). Im not too keen on the process, so I don't have all the data, but I have explored the option as a backup plan. A few things I do know is they hold a board in October, January, April, and July, and results are typically pushed out the same month the board convenes. Good luck, dude! I hope everything works out. Sounds like you've been working your a** off to get a slot!1 point

I just purchased a Beretta M9. For nostalgia. I never thought I'd like to see one of those again. CA is making me wait two weeks for a M9. There's another purchase I made for xmas..(Ruger 9mm Carbine) they can't give that one until two weeks after the M9 or something like that. I liked the Deep South because you can buy shotguns at Wal-Mart. Or an M9 at McDonald's. And the GD BBQ I like CA because in approximately 1.5 months that Ruger will cost twice as much due to taxes. It's almost as hard purchasing ammo. But I can buy shrooms at the tobacco store. Fucking nuts.1 point

Studies have shown, it do be like that sometimes. “I do not envy you the headache you will have when you awake. But for now, rest well and dream of large women.”1 point

How many hours of actually FAR flying time do SWA guys do per month? What's the range for normal lines, and what do the hustlers pull off? Remember that fucked up divorce you went through? How's life now?1 point

TLDR: It doesn’t say anything about you. I’ve been doing this Air Force stuff for a long long time. I’ve had countless doors slammed shut in my face. Some from bad timing, some from me not being ready yet, but most were from perception of who I was on a piece of paper. It took me years to understand how important it was to build your image of performance via your records. I have a feeling this is what happened to you where someone who doesn’t know you, took a look at who you are on a piece of paper and made a call off that. Unfortunately that is how a lot of promotions, awards, and other opportunities are judged. If I were in your shoes I would first enjoy the holidays. Then on Jan 3rd I would have a sit down with my Commander, reviewing the entire package and asking what needed the most improvement. If it was your writing on personal statements, create a rough draft and send it to 10 people you care about and ask their honest feedback. If they tell you it looks good, tell them to look harder. Chasing your dreams has a mixture of drive and being humble. You need to make sure you have the gas peddle all the way down while still understanding that your package can always be improved. Seeking that feedback to where people trust that you will not become defensive, upset, or ignore them is huge because that is where you are going to receive their honest thoughts which will improve your package.1 point

In an alternate reality, republicans could do the smart thing here and let the leftist state dominoes fall one by one rendering a trump candidacy meaningless because he's not on the ballot in half the country. Then, insert milquetoast right candidate, beat biden handily and be done with the trump disease forever. But they'll never do that. They'll fight it in the courts, drag trump back into the limelight, and his polling will take a nose dive as 51% of the country re-realizes how much of an insufferable tool he is.1 point

It's just SWA being envious of UAL, DAL and AA: now, SWA can say they are "an airline with Wide Bodies".1 point
