Casualties ID’d and released by the Army. Specialist Breonna Moffett, 23 Specialist Kennedy Sanders, 24 Sergeant William Rivers, 46 All 3 were Reservists out of Fort Moore, GA. The 2 females (Sanders and Moffett) were Horizontal Construction Engineers and Rivers was an Interior Electrician. Sounds like their sleeping quarters were hit by the drone.

Do it, that’s what I say. I get it there’s bullshit and worrying things occurring, but go back and every generation thinks the next generation/version of the mil is bullshit, ruined, sucks, etc. Things have changed a lot in my career, and I don’t care for many of them, but the core job satisfaction, the bros, and the adventure you can’t get anywhere else persists. I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t rewind the clock and do it all over again (while simultaneously counting the days until retirement and lamenting my fucked up back!)

It’s also far easier to deal with the attritional impact of Large Scale Combat and rebuild our numbers post conflict by simply buying up their spares at premium with the promise of new shiny later. A country that sits in the NATO order of battle like for example Moldova doesn’t need F-35s, or Abrams, or really any other top line piece of tech that isn’t worn/carried. The point I was attempting to make is that if we got a kid who can’t cut it and make the top half to go 38’s, then we’ll tell them to try to find a heavy unit. But there’s no guarantee a heavy Sqdrn will take them. It’s happened before that they found only an RPA unit interested. But Hindsight is speaking the truth, as a guard fighter guy, your T-38 slot is waiting for you. But, there’s been very many people who couldn’t make the cut.

Correct, there is no threat of being involuntarily assigned to the RPA track for performance issues as a Guard/Reserve 92T0. You can CR out of UPT as a Guard/Reserve guy, and go home wingless, that has always been a possible outcome.

That is incorrect. Guard Reserve students have a MASS score calculated, but it is never used against AD peers for eligibility to track -38s. I think what you may be confusing for policy, was that it was colloquially understood that sponsoring units wanted to see upper-50% relative performance. But none of that is neither written, nor procedural in the tracking of the trainee to phase III. What does exist, is the discretion for the sq/cc to provide feedback to the sponsoring unit of either (i) non-T38 (frankly very rare) or (ii) non-IFF recommendation (much more common). AD does not pay for the billet, AFRC does (yes, even Guard bureau slots are centrally managed by AFRC now), so it's their [gaining unit] call. In fairness, the sponsoring unit can and usually does concur with the retread recommendation to heavies or bombers. Seen it happen many times, with (ii) being more common in my experience, through 13 years in the AETC TFI AFRC (that's a lot of letters lol) business. If you performance meets the CTS for T-6s, you will track 38s are a 11f bound Guard/Res guy, regardless of your relative ranking in your class, unless your gaining sq/cc concurs with a non-recommendation from the upt sq/cc. He is incorrect. AFRC buys the billet, the kid owns the T-38 slot, not AD. When he was sent to UPT, he went in with a centrally funded class allocation for T-38 from the jump. AFRC footprint does not change the AD calculus. I know the whole "different color of money" stumps some people, but AD cats nervous about tracking 38 need not look at their ARCF/ANG classmates as anything but guys who for all competing purposes, are there just "auditing the course". They're not your problem, nor your competition, just like internationals.

I'm at UPT now and honestly from what I've seen the track rates have been more or less normal (approx 5-7 per class). I've even heard of some classes that had more 38 slots than interested studs, so some people got non-vol'd. If I were you, I'd take that AD slot if you end up getting it. Better to end up at UPT for sure and compete for a 38 slot against a handful of classmates rather than compete against 100's for a guard slot. Either way, good luck to you!

I'm not sure there's a point in joining during the post-war periods. Obviously if you don't have other options, sure, but I started at the Academy in 03 when military appreciation was sky-high and the budget was booming. By the time I got out in '17 the silliness was outweighing the serve-your-nation pretty significantly. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the O-6+ cadre who seemed to think mentorship was telling you how awesome it was for them as CGOs and how they didn't understand why my generation doesn't want to stay in (without ever seeming to realize pre-9/11 O-club antics were long dead by the time we commissioned). Then of course the obligatory lecture on how you were a bad officer and bad person if you needed more than 3 drinks to have a good time, from the dude with a bottle of scotch in his desk. Unserious leaders in unserious times makes for a pretty frustrating experience. And if things get serious and scary, there will be limitless opportunities to join a freshly funded and focused military with a renewed appreciation for killing enemies and breaking things. So maybe do something else until then. I'm pretty content in my airline job that the military rolled me into, but someone starting off now would get to the airlines with less time and frustration if they just went to one of the pilot factory schools, and they'd have a better seniority number and higher income to pay off the loans. That wasn't an option in '03-'13. In retrospect, being told that all men are rapists and only women lack the capacity to consent to sex after having a beer was a walk in the park compared to the nonsense now. I had fun, but I don't miss it

Maybe we stop sub-contracting ourselves out in the defense of foreign nations and we're suddenly hitting the recruiting requirements... I still highly recommend service to my nieces and nephews, but only in the ANG. At least have some control over your life, get your schooling paid for and still get to experience some cool shit. They may not have the career I had, or they may have something way better, who knows. Sure they can walk down to Dunder Mifflin, but I can guarantee, they'll never experience the shit I got to do in service of our nation (and State lol). However, this generation doesn't tick like my generation, that's not a dig on them, no generation is the same. If all they want to do is make money and be free, then ya, the military isn't necessarily for them. Though there is still plenty of opportunity and money to be made in the military, our leaders just need to figure out how to reach this generation. That said, I made way more money in the military than probably 95% of my graduating class (of 36 kids lol), or anyone from my home town/county. For many kids that come from small, poor, farming communities like I grew up in, the military is still a great option. For many of them, it's best option they have. Or they can "live free," and when that doesn't work and we suddenly need a stronger military, their kids will pay the price. Hard times create hard men, hard men create....you know the rest.

The problem is that the benefits don't look as good as companies are upping their own benefits. Target, Starbucks, and Taco Bell all have better tuition assistance than the military, for example. Congress is going to have to recognize that military pay and benefits are not keeping pace, especially for what we ask people to do.
