You may have found it humorous, the rest of us were terrified. I still have no idea why Big Blue thought it was a good idea to bring back a UPT 65-14 grad.15 points

I will support age 60-whatever when there is meaningful testing that filters out pilots. Too fat? Bye. Can't handle *complex* surprise EPs in the sim? Bye. Can't pass a real medical exam from a random AME? Bye. Comparative cognitive testing from your previous attempts shows a decline? Bye. And not just for 65+, all pilots. But right now this is about guys who aren't ready for retirement, many of whom are convinced their particular struggles make them uniquely deserving, wanting more. My ability to retire early is affected by how soon others retire. So if the 65+ crowd can make a financial-based argument, so can I. But mostly I'm just tired of the Baby Boomers upending every system for their financial advantage then acting shocked that other generations don't appreciate being left the tattered ruins of a once functional societal pact.5 points

Because he is a free citizen and we are not at war with Russia? I'd actually like to hear Putin's "reasons" so that we can more accurately counter his propaganda/respond appropriately to his abuses.4 points

Bottom line, the airlines made being a pilot absolute dog shit for anybody who had to go through the regionals before making it to a legacy carrier. They took advantage of deregulation, mergers, and bankruptcies to rape and pillage the pilot pipeline for years. They did such a good job taking advantage of the regional pilots that everybody told their friends and family to pursue other careers. I remember when I was a FAIP having the regional pilots show up and talk about how they had to join the guard because they couldn't live off of $15,000 a year anymore. Absolutely insane that someone flying dozens/hundreds of people around the country everyday would be making that type of wage. So now we get the crocodile tears from the airlines about how there aren't enough pilots in the pipeline, and how unfortunate it is they have to pay the regionals so much money now to keep them from jumping ship. Fuck these guys. They took on billions of dollars of debt so they could buy back shares and bump their share-based compensation a few pennies each quarter, and they have the audacity to cry to us about manning and compensation. The 1500 hour requirement was put into place because of aviation mishaps and a reassessment of what is required to operate in the modern airspace. Absolutely nothing in that regard has changed, so neither should the experience requirements. If we keep rewarding these shitty executives by letting them run to the government to solve their self-induced problems, we're just going to get the same behavior over and over again.4 points

Not eligible for bonus, not eligible to promote, and will deploy if combat coded...wow. Sounds like a great deal!4 points

I reached out to AFPC regarding when we can expect our date and location notifications, "Due to 19AF resets of training programs all training scheduling is on standby and no UPT training is expected to be added until March timeframe. RNLTD is normally 30-45 days prior to Class Start Date. And RIP pis expected 1-2 months prior to RNLTD. You could be scheduled anytime throughout the year. If you have not heard anything by end of March get back to us and we’ll ask schedulers for anticipated training dates and location. Too soon right now." So, we might be waiting a little while.3 points

In a better world, the viewer would analyze the speaker and the message and judge accordingly. You think most of what's broadcast domestically is not propaganda and misinformation? You think most of what Trump or Pelosi or Biden or the squad chicks say is truth? I think it's a perfect opportunity to sit down with your kids (or great-grandkids, CH & Huggy) and talk about critical thinking.3 points

@Lord Ratner As long as they’re stapled, I’m all for it! Kill the regional model, pay legacy rates, and yeah the new guys will probably get RJs/717/220 only at indoc with the lowest pay rate, but they’ll be at a large carrier on the list and will bid over to larger NB soon enough (or fly one trip with CA @SocialD involving hookers and blow on a berg layover and they’ll never leave the fleet!)2 points

Why is Tucker Carlson being allowed to publish his interview with Vladimir Putin tomorrow evening at 6pm EST? If we're at war with Russia, and Tucker interviews the leader of the country we are at war with, and then publishes that interview on American media outlets, is that not Anti-American propaganda? Is it not traitorous? We already know every word Putin says in the interview will be a lie, so why would we allow anyone to see dangerous misinformation? It only makes sense to sanction and bring charges against anyone deliberately causing harm to our national security.2 points

After 9-11, my dad tried to get back in as a retired 59 year old United pilot. He said he would come back and fly 135’s and they said they didn’t need that but would love for him to help in an AOC. He asked what that was while sitting at the family computer, looking over his glasses at the keyboard and typing with 1 finger at a time and forwarding those infamous chain emails from back then. Needless to say, he didn’t get to contribute to the air war in OEF.2 points

My Terms because I've already given up a lot of my life to uncle Sam. 2 years contract, then year to year after. $100k/yr tax-free bonus (minimum), both years paid before I depart for my duty station. Flyer only. 5/4/9 schedule. No in-voluntary TDY's/Deployments (I'm probably going, I just want control). No writing or receiving OPRs/awards. Paper Voucher (1351-2). Paper Leave Forms (988)...I really don't want to have to justify why I can't fly across the country with SVTC. Duty assignment of my choosing. No Blues. I'll do PT tests because it's always fun to beat the young 20-somethings as a 40 year old overweight dude with a jacked up back/neck. Oh, and I want that time to count toward my reduced retirement pay. If there is a real near-pear, shoot-em-up war, scrap all that, I'll be first in line to come back and do what I can to help!2 points

One of my favorite parts of that story was their squadron commander calling an Eagle squadron commander up there who's squadron hadn't gotten any kills yet (through no fault of their own) and offered to come by and give some advice on air to air work.2 points

Open source reporting it was some remotely piloted American exceptionalism that carried out the strike. 🍻 to the crew if I ever run into them!1 point

Great, but the problem is who is the arbiter of this? Because there are tons of people who viewed completely valid and accurate information regarding Covid as “dangerous misinformation” and went through great lengths to silence said information because “the people couldn’t handle it/decide for themselves.” I believe critical thinking is mostly dead in this country and around the world, but at the same time it will never be worth going down the freedom-trampling road of the govt deciding what information/opinions the population should and should not consume. AOC for example is one of the dumbest people to ever been given a public voice, but the people have every right to listen to every word she says if they want to. I disagree with her existence beyond being behind a bar slinging beers, but this is America and she was voted in and thats the end of it. Censoring anything at a govt level is for communist shit holes, not the United States of America.1 point

I’m pretty sure Gearhog was being facetious. Either that or he’s had a complete reversal on his view of the Ukraine conflict.1 point

In order to believe this you have to believe either one of two things: 1. That our media apparatus is a propaganda tool. (or) 2. That the American public is too stupid to see through Putin's BS. Note: both of those are likely (partially) true. Oh, there we go. So you have misidentified the root problem here. The problem isn't with the American public hearing a foreign leader's voice - it's that the American public is too stupid to differentiate truth from fiction. I'll just say one thing. There are plenty on this board who have never heard this interview, and yet, still, come out on the side of Putin/Russia. They have found other talking points from other outlets or other corners of the internet/pod universe that align with their worldview and have used it to reinforce it or support it in one way or another. So your lamentation that this is going to somehow be causative for some unforeseen catastrophe is a non-starter. People who want to believe Putin's propaganda have already found it, and already do. I'd rather hear it from the horse's mouth, and then listen to other smart people analytically pick it apart and tell us why it's wrong, rather than trust the PTB to protect us from some dude's opinion. What I personally find far more interesting is why everyone else in a powerful position is so worried that a (truly) alternate view is going to find a platform. That says something far more interesting and, frankly, concerning.1 point

In many ways it is true. The Ukrainians, using our tech, have been inflicting personnel losses at a 5:1 ratio (10:1 when it comes to armor and fighting vehicles), that being said, the Russians in typical manner have settled into a battle of attrition which is their ideological way of war. Unfortunately for Ukraine, Russia has three times the population and Vlad seems content to continue to throw his country's youth into the meat grinder. Additionally, Russian industry has been cranking up tank production and while they continue to lose their vehicles fast than they can produce them, they still have deep reserves and without continued replacements the Ukraine force will degrade.1 point

I just watched one of my sons graduate USN bootcamp. He shot expert! He's off to Coronado for SWCC training. The navy did a good job with the graduation. All of the people in attendance were super stoked that their loved ones were now sailors. All walks of life were present. Very cool seeing all different types of Americans being happy together and serving this great nation.1 point
