I am at a loss for words, WTF are these idiots thinking? Stop retired pay. Stop VA pay. No choice of duty station. No promotion opportunity. Your time on VRRAD does NOT count towards time in service. Sooo come work in a crap hole of our choosing, for half pay, no promotion and its doesn't count towards your retirement. FU!

@Lord Ratner As long as they’re stapled, I’m all for it! Kill the regional model, pay legacy rates, and yeah the new guys will probably get RJs/717/220 only at indoc with the lowest pay rate, but they’ll be at a large carrier on the list and will bid over to larger NB soon enough (or fly one trip with CA @SocialD involving hookers and blow on a berg layover and they’ll never leave the fleet!)

The USAF is thinking of bringing back WO's, if I was a SSgt or TSgt I would jump at the opportunity to get a pay increase and not having to put up with the Top 3 who makes your life miserable with them all backstabbing each other to get a senior rater endorsement. In my case, if I make it to AGR retirement with my current orders, they’d have to give a $200k+ bonus per year to even match DAL+retirement pay…and then there’s that QOL and willingness to put up with bullshit thing. I actually have a pretty good full time job right now in the ANG, but even this will get immediately dropped at 20y 0m AGR and I will run back to DAL with a significant smile and sense of relief. In the end, I’d stay in my current job longer if they gave me a $300k yearly bonus…that’s my price AF!

So the least bit of doubt as to our righteousness... so should we have jailed/banned Vietnam War protesters? Or anti-war activists for any of the conflicts we the US of A have been in or Allies we have supported in their conflicts? Freedom has its risks, I'd rather take this risk than the first step down the road you seem to be prodding us on to... There are limits of course, explicit calls to arms against a legitimate government, policy, law for example but it is unreasonable to say that conversing with a foreign leader involved in a conflict with another nation and not directly at war with the United States is traitorous. What's next? You don't like Orban in Hungary and interviewing him and broadcasting it is against the national interests of the USA?

Why is Tucker Carlson being allowed to publish his interview with Vladimir Putin tomorrow evening at 6pm EST? If we're at war with Russia, and Tucker interviews the leader of the country we are at war with, and then publishes that interview on American media outlets, is that not Anti-American propaganda? Is it not traitorous? We already know every word Putin says in the interview will be a lie, so why would we allow anyone to see dangerous misinformation? It only makes sense to sanction and bring charges against anyone deliberately causing harm to our national security.

After 9-11, my dad tried to get back in as a retired 59 year old United pilot. He said he would come back and fly 135’s and they said they didn’t need that but would love for him to help in an AOC. He asked what that was while sitting at the family computer, looking over his glasses at the keyboard and typing with 1 finger at a time and forwarding those infamous chain emails from back then. Needless to say, he didn’t get to contribute to the air war in OEF.

Bottom line, the airlines made being a pilot absolute dog shit for anybody who had to go through the regionals before making it to a legacy carrier. They took advantage of deregulation, mergers, and bankruptcies to rape and pillage the pilot pipeline for years. They did such a good job taking advantage of the regional pilots that everybody told their friends and family to pursue other careers. I remember when I was a FAIP having the regional pilots show up and talk about how they had to join the guard because they couldn't live off of $15,000 a year anymore. Absolutely insane that someone flying dozens/hundreds of people around the country everyday would be making that type of wage. So now we get the crocodile tears from the airlines about how there aren't enough pilots in the pipeline, and how unfortunate it is they have to pay the regionals so much money now to keep them from jumping ship. Fuck these guys. They took on billions of dollars of debt so they could buy back shares and bump their share-based compensation a few pennies each quarter, and they have the audacity to cry to us about manning and compensation. The 1500 hour requirement was put into place because of aviation mishaps and a reassessment of what is required to operate in the modern airspace. Absolutely nothing in that regard has changed, so neither should the experience requirements. If we keep rewarding these shitty executives by letting them run to the government to solve their self-induced problems, we're just going to get the same behavior over and over again.

I mis-drilled the wrong hole once, it cost a lot. Don't recommend it.

One of my favorite parts of that story was their squadron commander calling an Eagle squadron commander up there who's squadron hadn't gotten any kills yet (through no fault of their own) and offered to come by and give some advice on air to air work.

Worth the time:

I will support age 60-whatever when there is meaningful testing that filters out pilots. Too fat? Bye. Can't handle *complex* surprise EPs in the sim? Bye. Can't pass a real medical exam from a random AME? Bye. Comparative cognitive testing from your previous attempts shows a decline? Bye. And not just for 65+, all pilots. But right now this is about guys who aren't ready for retirement, many of whom are convinced their particular struggles make them uniquely deserving, wanting more. My ability to retire early is affected by how soon others retire. So if the 65+ crowd can make a financial-based argument, so can I. But mostly I'm just tired of the Baby Boomers upending every system for their financial advantage then acting shocked that other generations don't appreciate being left the tattered ruins of a once functional societal pact.

I have nothing more to add than, what a piece of shit! Delta thankfully doesn't have any maxes yet and I'd love to see them swapped out for more busses...much more comfortable ride anyway.

I never got to go to UPT. Did the CSO thing, and had a good time in the Buff for over a decade. Covered most the Pacific, sent some ISIS goons to goat paradise. You can still fly and have a good career. Or… I got my CFI, taught on the side and built hours. Now I’ve got my ATP and I’m flying charter, building lots of time and trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up 😂 You’re going to have opportunities, no matter what.

That’s a tough development. Sorry to hear that. Whatever you end up doing, know that the Air Force needs studs at every AFSC. You can make a giant difference in mission and morale by your competence and leadership in support roles. Quick story…WW2 kicks off and my grandpa, his cousins, and brother all left their town of Lakeside, SD (population N/A because it was just an incorporated farming community) to sign up. My grandpa only had a 9th grade education and wouldn’t be accepted by any service but the Merchant Marines as a baker. He was very disappointed but did his best. Fast forward to 1944 off the Philippines when Typhoon Cobra hit (3 destroyers sank, over 700 killed). From his rodeo background, he was one of the only guys that wasn’t violently ill and ended up relaying the orders to help control the ship and save the crew. He was also the POC from the ship to Admiral Halsey and was personally cited for heroism and exceptional performance by Halsey after the typhoon. The whole point of this story is that I don’t know if there can be much more disappointment after Pearl Harbor than being told you’re too dumb to do anything in the military and can only bake bread for the Merchant Marines. However, you never know when your number will be called. Even if that had never happened, baking bread and providing good food for men is a worthwhile and important role that you should be proud of. Whatever you end up doing, it is also a worthwhile role and an honorable profession that deserves your best effort.

Isn't it cynical to say the American media is propaganda and the American public is stupid. What is America if not its citizens? If it is that stupid, why would you want them becoming involved in an issue they may not understand? This interview is only going to add to the Pro-Putin propaganda by a substantial amount and there will likely be more people who believe it than disbelieve it. It seems we have two options: 1. Decrease the amount of Pro-Putin propaganda (restrict Tucker Carlson and his ilk by some fashion) 2. Increase the amount of Pro-US/NATO propaganda. This is the more difficult option. Perhaps, as you say, we could let someone else digest it for us, but who should we listen to? The most important thing is preserving the US, which means preserving US global leadership. I believe alternate viewpoints should be allowed on most issues, but those that threaten our national security and global dominance can't be allowed to spread unchecked. There was a large amount of anti-war sentiment during Viet-Nam, and how did that turn out for us? Lots of people began to grow weary of our involvement in AFG, and that didn't turn out so well either. I think we've learned our lesson. We jailed people for Jan 6 and I think we even shot one. There hasn't been any massive anti-government protests since. Freedom cannot be enjoyed unless there is a government that provides it to you. Allowing anti-US sentiment to proliferate is like shooting yourself in the foot. Assange and Snowden mishandled classified information, likely giving aid to our enemies. Neither are allowed to roam free. But giving our #1 enemy a massive platform to rationalize his actions and express his anti-US viewpoints to hundreds of millions of people is somehow less criminal? It doesn't make sense.
