  1. One of the greatest has flown West. Maj Gen Pat Halloran was 95. He had 100 combat missions in the F-84 before being selected for the highly-secretive U-2 Program in the 1957 time frame. Pat went on to be one of only 18 pilots to check out in both the U-2 and SR-71. After retirement, be remained involved in flying experimental aircraft and homebuilts, including some very exotic replica aircraft from the Tom Wathen Collection, like the De Havilland Comet. He was a regular at Oshkosh. Just a fantastic guy and incredible pilot. A toast to the General...

  2. Seriously? I'm assuming that you're military and have actually read the Constitution that you've sworn to protect. Police don't conduct "inspections". They are clearly searching the store without a warrant, which is against the Constitution. They arrested a man for not complying with their illegal search, which is a wrongful arrest. Very likely they broke some things in the process, like the cop going over the counter by sitting on a glass case and other guys forcing the door open that is designed to keep people out. Every one of these cops should be fired and then arrested for breaking and entering. The modern tyrannical police state has broken the public faith and the only way to restore that faith is to hold themselves accountable for following the law they pretend to enforce.

  3. Apollo Eight Astronaut and former USAF Fighter Pilot Bill Anders died in a crash of his T-34 yesterday. Anders flew on Apollo Eight Jim Lovell and Frank Borman and is credited with taking the infamous Earthrise picture below.

  4. They took the back cover off of the UPT syllabus and the front cover off of the IFF syllabus and put them together. Expect your non-fighter dudes to do the standard UPT flying, and your fighter dudes to do the IFF sorties primarily. Most likely scenario is that the different IFF sortie types (BFM, BSA, etc.) will be a letter of X's thing.

  5. Are you in now? If no, do some soul searching on what you really want out of life because military aviation will absolutely cut into family time and spouses opportunities, etc. If yes, then accelerate that soul searching and talk to IP’s from a variety of sources because there isn’t a flying job out there that won’t take up a ton of your time. And if you just want wings and plan to be a shitty wingman/copilot and not be good so you can spend all your time at home, please don’t pursue this job.

  7. https://www.thecity.nyc/2024/06/03/video-nypd-cannabis-raid-adams-hochul/ The regulatory inspection process was outlined in the 2021 state law legalizing cannabis use. A section of that law enshrines the right of individuals to refuse a regulatory inspection, though subjects them to a civil fine if they do so. Once a regulatory inspection is refused, then the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) or its board must request a court order, the law says. Last May, Governor Kathy Hochul expanded the state’s enforcement powers from the 2021 law, empowering OCM and the Department of Taxation and Finance to enter unlicensed cannabis establishments, seize products and get a court order to padlock shops shut. But over the last year, the legislation did little to curb the number of illegal stores. The state agencies did not have the resources to inspect a significant number of unlicensed stores as they continued to proliferate around the city. And when products were seized from unlicensed cannabis shops, the stores often reopened the next day. In April, Hochul expanded the state’s enforcement powers again, this time authorizing local jurisdictions to conduct regulatory inspections, adding more manpower behind the state agencies. It also made it easier to padlock stores after one inspection, rather than seeking a court order. Empowered by the legislation, Adams last month formed a task force of NYPD officers, the Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection as part of his enforcement effort, called Operation Padlock to Protect. As of May 29, the task force has completed 329 inspections, padlocked 224 stores and issued 231 cease and desist orders, the mayor’s office said. The move comes as the number of unlicensed shops in New York City has exploded since legalization. Officials estimate there are 2,800 unlicensed shops in the city. By comparison, there are 58 legal shops within the five boroughs.

  8. Besides acting like assholes, are these officers violating a law? It sounds like they didn't have a warrant, but is there any back story here? Did they have probable cause for an "inspection"?

  12. Not really. The difference is that it's your turn now. Political incompetence has led to hyperinflationary spikes many times. They are usually brutal then followed by decades of stability. We are not unique.

  13. I hope this unleashes a tsunami of lawsuits against all organizations who made the vaccine medical treatment a condition of employment or education, specifically the DoD.

  14. Big difference between "when I was young" geezer tales from 3 decades ago vs 3 years ago and everyone who has been buying groceries knows that difference.

  15. I was bouncing around the channels this morning as the pundits on both sides gave their pitches. CNN had some clown talking about how good the economy is and one of the commentators pushed back saying "you must not buy your own groceries." Prices of consumer staples such as flour, sugar and butter have skyrocketed in price under Biden’s tenure, increasing 38.3%, 30.7% and 35.9%, respectively. I was at the commissary last weekend and went by the deli to pick a loaf of my favorite rustic Italian bread. I have not bought it in a while and I literally stopped in my tracks when I saw the price $9.99! On Jan 19, 2021 this loaf of bread was $6.49 at the Commissary...WTF...I didn't buy it. I have a great retirement, my job pays me FAR more than I am worth and I typically don't pay attention at the grocery store so this was a wow moment that showed me just how bad inflation is right now. Credit card debt crossed the $1.1T mark, an all time high. People are struggling to get by and it will be a major factor in the election.

  17. Amen Brother Biff. Also, a quick search didn’t come up with any results, but if it’s already been posted I apologize, but the great Bud Anderson flew west a few days ago at the age of 102. A toast to the Old Crow and the last of the Triple Aces… https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/18/us/bud-anderson-dead.html?smid=url-share

  19. I'm not a fucking shop keeper in a state that sells cannabis, so no I don't know what the law says in this specific state. As much as I love reading platitude spewing rhetoric and questions highlighting my constitutional knowledge, maybe loosen your sphincter an RCH. Props to @uhhello for actually providing some positive insight in this situation. Maybe UTFSF (known as Google) next time before you blow a gasket.
