I once called the NY state patrol to ensure I was protected by a federal law that enables me to transport firearms through NY on a XC move. The guy confirmed I was protected, and then said, “but not all troopers may be aware of, or follow, that law in the moment. But don’t worry, charges will certainly be dropped when you go to court.” Unbelievable - directly admitting NY LE violates federal law and is incompetent/ignorant.2 points

Here's a hot take of mine...the "toxic leadership" people talk about all the time is way blown out of proportion. Sure, there are some truly toxic leaders, but because a leader wants you to follow a standard and doesn't kiss your ass in all things doesn't mean they're toxic. When I was a punk kid, I watched some Discovery channel documentary about a bunch of students going through BUD/S (I think it was called "Class 234" or something along the lines). There is a scene during their phase 3 where one of the Officer students told trainees to do something and they didn't do it. Their cadre dude smoked everyone and then told them how this is how you create bad, micromanaging Officers. I was mad at my dad at the same time and that really struck me because it was a very similar thing that I hadn't done and now had to deal with consequences. I put the emo music on pause, cut my hair, put on Rocky 4 and started my journey to become a barrel chested freedom fighter (written from my office as I hide from my responsibilities in the office).2 points

@LiquidSky I’ll say it again, the quality of time spent with one’s family is entirely controllable. That also applies to your spouse. I don’t recommend marrying someone who says GFY, I’ll only live in X. Guys who marry that chick will likely not have a great family QOL…but it was a choice they were not forced to make.1 point

😆 Dude, when a person said "How can I trust you to.....if you can't...?" I knew that they were a non combatant.1 point

So why did President Biden go to a Waffle House (or ANY place) after the Debate with the “Cold” that the White House said he was suffering with, shake hands, and hug….And let alone without a Mask!? WTF1 point

If you got the timing right, it was kinda like nailing a game winning shot at the buzzer during phone sex though.1 point

When your enemy is afraid of you, it is exactly the compliment I think it is. Please tell me more about what the cool, edgy, new professor at the zoo thought about the subject though.1 point

Patton was both those guys. We was fining troops in foxholes under active observation for not being clean shaven or not wearing a necktie. He had utter contempt for the citizen soldiers he was leading. If someone whose been wearing the uniform for 35 years can't understand why someone who was a baker's apprentice ten months before isn't as good at soldiering as he is, he isn't a good leader of Americans.1 point

My first few deployments I didn't have email. DSN 1110...."I'd like to make an off base call". People were also waiting in line to use the phones. Felt like a prison scene.1 point

There are barely double digit guard -38 slots per year for the next year or so. You'll have no problem getting a taste for what a 9-5 job is like.1 point

I was actually teaching in the SOF WIC when both MC and AC shifts were happening. Frustrated me to no end that we could take A-10 guys that had never done anything with a radar or air to air beyond BFM and stick them in F-35 and TX them in a couple months whereas AFSOC in their infinite wisdom had no short course available to AC-W/U guys going to the J and they were out of pocket for almost a year. And copy the historical precedent for iron shifts taking longer than expected, but the first guys are PCS’ing in a few weeks and the second and third tranches are already ID’d (I was in the second until I went elsewhere). I don’t know what the final solution will look like with OA-1 vs U-28 or when, but the notion that it won’t happen or isn’t imminent is incorrect.1 point

I'm not sure what is scarier, the fact that her primary (only?) qualification is the person she sleeps with or the fact that you might be right.1 point

Shut the f*** up with that "felon" bullshit. You know that's garbage and was conducted by a kangaroo court. I don't care about who the person is on an individual level, I care about their policies and how they have performed in like roles. I don't know about you but my life was vastly greater when POTUS was Trump as opposed to Biden, so I'm going with him and if you can't understand that decision, you are afflicted with TDS. Hoping he picks a good VP. Can you tell me one aspect of your life that has been better under the current leadership?1 point

Don’t know how I missed this, sorry dude. Hopefully it’s not too late, but I think what you’re feeling regarding the new civ job is normal - you’re excited at the “newness” and actually having a “real” job for the first time in your life. If you were a normal college student, it also probably feels like a shitload of money and perks. I’ve worked with tons of engineers and been around “that world” for years (from a pilot perspective) and guess what - lots of guys working late hours, “non-standard” times, Saturdays, etc. Especially newer guys - the grass is not always greener, just different. I think you are likely to significantly regret passing up an interview in a year or two after the “exciting newness” wears off and your engineering job is just a paycheck to you. But, I think 9-5s are the worst thing I could ever have to do and I thank God I can do something else. I also feel like near 100% I know who work a 9-5 are not fulfilled at all and just work because something has to pay the mortgage and put food on the table. Fuck that - go on an adventure, life is too short with too many unknowns to waste your time playing Office Space (my subjective opinion of course). I’ll end with this thought: if your heart isn’t in something (especially flying professionally), then don’t do it. Flying is not “just a job,” like a 9-5 could be. If you’re still passionate about it after a gut check, then press forward, but if not, then maybe you are just the 9-5 type…and that’s not wrong, just not for me.1 point

So those are our choices… a billionaire felon who no one can trust because he will aggressively lie without any guilt. Or a geriatric guy who can’t be trusted to form cogent thoughts or walk down two steps without the help of his wife. And the best part? The system is set up for all of you to entirely ignore your candidate and just say how absurd it is that the other side is considering voting for their “choice.” How are we the people not revolting over these two being our choices? What a joke that THAT isn’t being talked about more in place of partisan politics. Knowing this forum, incoming non sequitur about how Trump is better than Biden. I truly don’t care, they are both unacceptable options. Democracy looking not so good right now.1 point

What standard is that, AFR 35-10? You could probably get a copy of that on your way to the cash cage in CBPO! 🤣 It's been said by every generation ever.1 point

I am actually surprised it has not been a bigger problem in our community. 20 straight years of combat deployments for LDHD units takes a toll. Killing people is not a pick up game and watching your work on ever increasing resolution cameras makes it personal. I did 9 deployments through the years, was fortunate to have breaks along the way for school/staff....other were in a grind for year son end...90 on 90 off, 60 on 60 off...for MANY years. Same issue for the UAS folks who in many regards have it worse. Folks flying airplanes typically have the transit time home from a deployment to start the decompression process. UAS dudes can sit at the kitchen table eating breakfast with their kids, go to work, suddenly they get the call to kill a dude they have been watching for a month. They turn the dude into hamburger and spend the next four hours watching the body to see who comes to collect him...often with his family watching and grieving. They leave the GSU, drive home and are eating dinner 20 minutes later when their kid asks "how was your day Mom/Dad?1 point

its busy, you're going to fly/tdy/deploy regularly. Once you join AFSOC its Hotel California, you can check out, but you'll never leave...do not expect outside opportunities save for weapons school, IDE, or command. New boss in the seat soon, don't expect much will change but hopefully the command will calm down a bit. The move to DM is coming, some hurdles still but it will open another PCS location CONUS that is not Cannon, so I guess that's good. Can't speak to HCs, but being a heavy driver in a fighter command, I wouldn't recommend, YMMV1 point

Let's make sure to give the Russians back Finland, the Baltics, and Poland as well. They'll be turning over Kaliningrad in the exchange, of course... unless historical land claims only work one way? The US will be handing Texas and California back to Mexico, obviously, and the Kosovars need to get used to being massacred by Serbs on a daily basis. Historical ownership is the key to sovereignty, the will of the people be damned. /s1 point

The Constitution preempts any and all state laws including business licenses. It doesn't matter what law a state passes allowing police to search businesses. Just like a state cannot pass a law saying National Guard troops can be lodged in someone's home without consent. A butcher shop is subject to state inspections, but those inspections are consented to. If an inspector shows up, wants to do an inspection, is refused, and then continues anyway and arrests the person for not complying, that is an unlawful search and wrongful arrest. The state can immediately revoke the butcher license, but they cannot continue a search (or "inspection") after being turned down without a warrant. In this case the police should have said 'fine, you won't let us in, we'll suspend your license'. As soon as they forced their way in anyway, they became the bad guys.1 point
-
Seriously? I'm assuming that you're military and have actually read the Constitution that you've sworn to protect. Police don't conduct "inspections". They are clearly searching the store without a warrant, which is against the Constitution. They arrested a man for not complying with their illegal search, which is a wrongful arrest. Very likely they broke some things in the process, like the cop going over the counter by sitting on a glass case and other guys forcing the door open that is designed to keep people out. Every one of these cops should be fired and then arrested for breaking and entering. The modern tyrannical police state has broken the public faith and the only way to restore that faith is to hold themselves accountable for following the law they pretend to enforce.1 point

Are you in now? If no, do some soul searching on what you really want out of life because military aviation will absolutely cut into family time and spouses opportunities, etc. If yes, then accelerate that soul searching and talk to IP’s from a variety of sources because there isn’t a flying job out there that won’t take up a ton of your time. And if you just want wings and plan to be a shitty wingman/copilot and not be good so you can spend all your time at home, please don’t pursue this job.1 point

This analogy is on par with, "if we can't trust them to wear approved patches, how an we trust them in combat?!" In the absense of a law passed ordering police to torture, maim, rape, or execute prisoners I don't expect them to be constitutional scholars. We have courts for this. Its the same reason I don't condemn college admissions officials for executing affirmative action for 60+ years. It was found to be unconstitutional, but I don't hold admissions officials personally responsible for following the law.-1 points
