  1. Boom Supersonic XB-1 is about to make it's first supersonic flight live on Youtube:

  2. To be clear, that is happening because of the CHIPS act, which is potentially being considered for cancellation because it is seen as a Dem thing. https://www.commerce.gov/news/press-releases/2024/11/biden-harris-administration-announces-chips-incentives-award-tsmc And for some reason the Trump admin is taking aim at TSMC? Is defending Taiwan’s semiconductor trade with the Western world from China not one of the major reasons the US military has been spun up about Great Power competition? I don’t see how these policies could be better in the short, medium, or long term. Unless the play is to disengage, become more isolationist, and take the hit on the chin that China can run that part of the world.

  4. I'm having a hard time understanding the relationship between the ~12M illegal migrants who showed up uninvited over the past 4 years and the labor market. We've always had seasonal workers in agriculture and low-skill jobs, those were managed on a periodic basis and if I had to wager a guess it was a few hundred thousand per year, under specified circumstances. If they weren't bringing kids/family there was also less concern about impacts on public spending on education, Medicaid, etc. But somehow these 12M or so migrants were all benefitting the economy and keeping prices down? Strange, we've had pretty record inflation over the same period we've had high in-migration. Would inflation have been worse if we didn't let them waltz across the border? There seems to be a handful in NYC and Chicago picking up day jobs for uber eats and similar under-the-table ventures, but a good share of them are subsisting off govt cheese in hotels and shelters, kids getting placed in local schools with all sorts of ancillary needs, blue states offering medicaid programs, etc. When we talk about immigration, migrants, labor markets, etc we should be very specific about numbers, circumstances, externalities, etc. A dozen eggs were $1.29 3 or so years ago, now they're around $3-4 (bird flu, inflation, fuel, etc). Am I to believe that if we deport a large chunk of these migrants eggs will reach $7? Why weren't eggs $7 BEFORE all this migration happened? More vague, anachronistic abstractions from the do-gooders and chattering class.

  7. It’ll bring out millions of Americans that will work just not for slave wages and in decent conditions. The corporate tech investor class has been date raping the American worker for decades while preening about nonsense to infuriate and distract the middle class and antagonize/divide. My hope is that when workplace raids happen at a job site they occur simultaneously with the serving of warrants at that company’s headquarters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. If the process for this is anything like most of my pay experience in the military, they'll get their first check in about 9 months, but it'll be wrong, so the member will have to spend 100 hours filling out various forms, then a debt will be incurred and they'll get no paycheck at all for a month, then six months and multiple corrected W-2s later it'll finally get fixed.

  10. @nsplayr I made it through five minutes...like you I never care for either one of them and Myron worked for me at one point. He was anointed by Slife as a Captain and while he might have been a good dude, he began to proselytize Slife's cult garbage. And I get your point of firing him for DEI...compared to what those two toxic pricks have done it is the last thing they should be canned for...HOWEVER, as slippery as these two are I'll allow it. A kill is a kill at this point.

  13. You're missing the point. There are two reasons this is interesting, the first is California and other states that are putting restrictions on how many rounds are removable magazine can carry. This bypasses it in a way that will drive them insane. But the second, which I find more compelling, is how many people out there think that they're going to be reloading in some sort of Red Dawn style shootout. The idea of this new pistol is to give you 21 rounds in something much smaller and easier to conceal than a full frame handgun. If it conceals as well as a p365, then I would much rather have the extra eight rounds then the ability to swap magazines (which I absolutely do not carry extra magazines). But it's Kel-Tec. They're basically the only innovative gun maker left, but they strike out *a lot.* I will say, I have enjoyed the KSG-410 quite a bit.

  15. Shack on the cost...time can be up to five years, large scale clean room production is not cheap or fast to set up. That being said I thought Samsung invest a crap ton a few years ago when the shortage was at its peak and they were building new factories in South Korea. I though at similar effort was underway to build a factory here in the states as of two years ago. That was the big news yesterday that crushed NVdia and tech stocks. China "claims" to have found a way to have a better working AI model that does not require TSMC chips...AND it can be trained for pennies on the dollar. Supposedly they use a technique that uses on demand processing modules versus always on, which dramatically reduces the requirements on both the processor and power consumption. Interestingly the new DeepSeek Model has already been trained to ignore questions about Chinese leadership and government. Between AI and Quantum things are really moving fast and it will be interesting to see how chip production is impacted.

  16. Idk if I agree or disagree with the proposed policy yet. With that being said, do you realize how much a chip fab costs? They're upwards of $20 billion and like most building projects in the US take several years to construct. Idk that there is going to be anything fast about this. The high end chips we use for AI, military applications, etc. are made by TSMC. They're made by TSMC because Intel is several years behind TSMC technologically. They bet wrong awhile back and have a lot of catching up to do. I get the point about using taxes to incentivize companies to move production to the US, but it was the CHIPS Act that helped TSMC begin construction on 3 high end fabs in the US. It'll be interesting to see how TSMC reacts.

  17. China and Russia want the US to produce more chips? Taxes can and should be looked at as the government incentivizing behavior as soon as you get past standard income and sales tax. Trump wants to increase US chip production, which would make us less reliant on foreign producers. His fastest and easiest way to do that is to artificially increase the price of foreign chips to make the market more desirable for US companies to enter/expand. Clearly there will be second and third order consequences, but he must think those are worth the desired effects.

  18. God damn son. Getting shit done. In a sweeping move, the White House just ordered every federal agency to stop all grants and loans - effective tomorrow at 5pm. White House Office of Management and Budget acting director Matthew Vaeth: "Career appointees have a duty to align Federal spending with Presidential priorities" The pause impacts everything from foreign aid to domestic programs, while the administration reviews where taxpayer money should go.

  21. I think there is a greater enforcement fear compared to the pre-2021 days. There are going to be a lot more self deportations and greater scrutiny on the businesses benefitting from the illegal workers. No way around ripping off the band aid though.

  25. I already said I support Trump’s plan, you don’t need to sell me on it… End the massive welfare state we have and people will go back to work. And if we “need” more workers (ie we don’t have any enough citizens to work after the welfare is cut), then we let people in to do those jobs, but with massive conditions. Progressives just want new voters…and if you don’t believe me, put up a bill where nonviolent illegal aliens get to stay but they never get to apply for citizenship. They’ll never go for it.

  30. For real. If option A is Slife is my commander and there’s zero DEI stuff or… Option B is a stock-standard neutral replacement-level dude is my commander, but I have to acknowledge my white privilege before putting on my flight suit, make a native land declaration before every briefing, and let a black non-binary lesbian read me a queer feminist empowerment poem before pushing the throttles up… I’m taking option B. Slife was that bad and toxic and evil.

  32. The idea that the AF is trying to erase the history of or not teach about the Tuskegee Airmen is one of the most ridiculous stories I’ve ever read. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the number of people I know that have bought into this garbage. The amount of laziness it takes to fall for something like this is astounding. The AF literally has at least two current units that I know of that have a direct lineage to the Tuskegee Airmen. The Alabama Air Guard F-35 unit has a tail painted red. Those units represent and honor the service and sacrifice of the Tuskegee Airmen every day. And we all should honor them. Their story is one of the most powerful and inspiring stories in the history of our USAF. There is a huge difference in getting rid of DEI curriculum that discussed the Tuskegee Airmen and trying to erase their history. It’s not hard to understand with just a minimal amount of effort.

  33. I've always wondered how old white dudes could be pushing DEI. If he really believes in it, he should resign to allow a minority into his position which would be the equitable thing to do. To do anything else is hypocritical.
