  1. This is the pendulum swinging the other way. 2ish miles of lateral sep and 500’ vertical…non-event. Copy it’s an RA, but the system is predictive/lag tool and as it turns out, a fighter-type jet will trigger extraneous advisories based on speed/maneuver capabilities.

  2. To do so would be blasphemous heresy. I 100% used an M8 bolt leftover from a ceiling fan to remove a truck brake rotor last week.

  4. Tell me you know nothing about military flying and you have never done a flyover at Arlington without telling me.

  5. You have posted some pretty silly stuff, but for a military aviation forum this is taking the cake today. If you don’t get why, I have nothing more to say

  7. But it is an event, it made the news. One would think DCA would be changing their ways. Same goes for those that operate in that space. Saying this is a non event is only done with hindsight. Delta thought it was event in the moment. You think Delta was thinking, "Hey Bob, an RA. Must be those fighter boys doing a run in to Arlington. We'll be fine, no worries." 300Kts at 800' thru class B is another gem. Either someone approved that plan or the 38s flew faster than planned, likely with DCA approval. So someone is gonna get the beak for that item (approval authority or pilots/DCA controllers). I was there a few weeks back. They are still packing planes in there with tight spacing and thus resulting in go arounds. And that is with EDCTs. I agree, a few minute ground stop would have easily prevented this.

  9. Was a Korea FAO and went to the ROKAF ACSC as an exchange student and talked to my Korean classmates and staff about this stuff extensively. I can't see the ROK letting us conduct ops from their soil against the PRC, even ISR, unless the PRC attacks the ROK first. The ROKs greatly fear the Chinese and have noticed how many times we have left allies twisting in the wind. Also, whenever I would ask the ROKAF guys about what they thought about us packing up and leaving Korea, they would only mention that they don't want us to do so because it would cost them too much money to replace what we bring to the fight. They never mentioned the alliance, friendship, etc. Well, one ROKAF officer did but he was the NKAF F-6 (MiG-19) defector from 1996. Of course my info is a decade or more old so take it with a grain of salt. There used to be another Korea FAO who posted on BO.net so maybe he can chime in. As the ROK pays a huge amount for the cost of stationing US troops in Korea, IMHO, that's one of the main reasons we still keep forces there is because it's cheaper to maintain that force structure than it would be in CONUS, plus the fact that the Army is loathe to give up the USFK/CC 4-star billet (maintaining GO/FO billets seems to be DoD's #1 priority).

  12. You can retract your statement anyways. Bad take and you know it. Especially bad coming from an alleged combat aviator; feel sad to what you’re doing to your credibility. It was revealed that F-18s, tomahawks, and MQ-9s were tasked to strike the houthis “top missile guy” at an exact time. The Houthis have SA-6s and SA-3s and have shot down over a dozen of our aircraft. There is clearly risk. Recommend to rebuild you don’t go too deep down the talk radio path you’re flirting with and get back to studying. I’d start with what the classification of these things are: - Movement of ammunition, aircraft, personnel, units, or comm equipment. - Date and time mission/operations begin - Time lines/schedules There are some FOIAd SCGs. DYOR.

  13. @chase Never saw specific targets and their locations, units, callsigns, comm plan, routing, AR track locations, CAP locations, etc. I will retract my statement if those were indeed released (absolutely could have missed it). And as previously stated, this is not support of what was put in signal, but merely caging reality vs. hyperbole.

  16. Idea: So there’s a military pilot shortage not just with us but our Allies as well, we’re in a rough patch with them right now so why not try to mend relations a bit and solve a common problem we all face by opening another base(s) here in the states, buy the iron ourselves or lease to go VFR direct to a solution and get ourselves caught up in production while getting our Allies caught up too, particularly in military pilot training. We want them to do more on there own, this would be one way to get that started and solve a problem we have now too. RAF, RAAF, RCAF, etc… are facing military pilot training shortages too, starting another base like the ENJPPT program at Sheppard, this justifies the purchase of new/different iron to train, different iron if current suppliers have no extra delivery capacity, reinvigorates mil to mil links without a new overseas basing mission and gets the extra production needed. Plan on it being a 10 year project, long enough to have impact but a sunset date with a legal extension option available. Old bases / airports are available, CODELs at these bases would support the MILCON money, there are enough vendors of capable training aircraft to get tails quickly as the facilities, syllabuses and logistics are worked out so that you could start I bet in 6-9 months with at least the primary phase as the intermediate/advanced phases are being set up. Nations buying into this can go al a carte, send studs thru all 3 phases or just whatever they want, pay/support as you go… ARC support might be forthcoming, loads/bookings are getting lighter in the 121 world and a ARC/low seniority airline guy probably would look at a good 3-5 year tour with a solid bonus (50k a year)…bases that have been divested are not impinging on existing MOAs… Solve a problem, bring the team back together and set them and ourselves up for success in the likely tense years ahead…

  19. This is one of the reasons why I balk at the idea of firing anybody who breaks the classification rules at the highest levels. Yeah, they would take a hammer to an E-3 or an O-4 who did this. But maybe the solution to that isn't to take a hammer to Hillary Clinton or Pete hegseth, maybe the solution is to stop hammering the junior violators in the idiotic hope that it will set the example for everyone else. The example always comes from the top. If we were in a no-shit war with serious consequences, I guarantee you people (not just Democrats) would be after Hegseth's head. We had a great example of this during the unrelated incident of covid. You can't make something more of a threat than it is. The way people respond to it will be a better gauge of how serious the matter is. People knew covid wasn't slaughtering millions of people in the street, and so they acted like a really bad cold was going around. The old and the fat were much more concerned about wearing a mask than the young and the healthy, because those groups experienced a different hazard level. And that's exactly what was happening. As long as the houthis or the Iranians didn't find out about these plans right before they happened, it really wasn't a very big deal to keep it a secret. And even if they had, it would have just fucked up a military operation with a near zero threat of loss to American Life. If this was operation overlord or the Manhattan project, you would see a level of seriousness that we are not going to see under the current conditions.

  20. Much of this is self-induced by absurd over-classification. I did a TSP and everyone was told the location was classified. Finance accidentally typed the location into our travel orders and that resulted in their network being isolated for a day while comm went through and did whatever they do to fix that. Obviously finance was even less useful than normal during that time. We were told that we could tell our wives where we were going once we arrived in country. Meanwhile, the local national travel agents on base with zero clearance for anything booked ADVON on commercial flights and emailed us our tickets to the 'classified' location. Then we arrived to a reception of a dozen host country reporters to cover our arrival who had been told a month prior. We had to jump through all sorts of hoops pretending the location was a secret, but everyone knew where we were going and there was no real reason for it to be secret in the first place. Things like this make people desensitized to classified.

  21. There are currently multiple options for individuals with the need/requirement to access SIPR outside of their normal work spaces; they've been available for years. There's also an app /program that's available for that can be installed on your personal phone that's cleared for CUI level info.

  23. Trump talks to Putin must mean that Trump is Putin's puppet. Ya not buying that. Despite the noise in the first Trump term, something struck a nerve, at least for me. Some background: I cut my teeth in the military with my first assignment in Okinawa--the Korean Theatre of Operations. Obviously as an E3 my worldview was as tight a soda straw as it gets. But there I was going through exercises, training plans, sorties, upgrades, trips, and doing research projects on forward operating locations both in Taiwan and up on the peninsula. 1995, so KIS had just kicked the bucket leaving KJI in charge, but not before he'd started lobbing ballistic missiles across the Sea of Japan. Fast forward a decade, and I'm back in the KTO, this time as a member of the LPA. More bluster, more ballistic missile launches, KJU taken over after his dad. At this point, patterns start to emerge, at least in my mind. After the NoDAKs had lost their benefactor, the USSR, they devolved into a pattern of famine, saber rattling, receiving aid from the west, less noise until the aid starts to run out, then lather rinse repeat. All while, for the most part, diplomacy is cold and almost non-existent from the west. Then one day, seemingly out of nowhere, POTUS is standing on the other side of the line in Panmunjom, shooting the shit with KJU. What in the actual fuck? But for a minute at least, the NoDAKs appear to have blinked, taken a moment to consider some economic incentives, trade even. ========== Ok, lots of words, but how does this tie into the Ukraine situation? 1: Remember when Obama got caught on hot mic with Putin whispering all of the sweet nothings he could do in his second term? -->Clean pass. DJT keeps a line open to Putin-->obviously a puppet. Bullshit; don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining. 2: DJT, as I illustrated above, clearly breaks with established geopolitical dogma. And I honestly cannot say that I see the downside, although I will not suggest there won't be a downside ever. Likewise with UKR: he's changing course, and I for one do not see a desirable outcome in the course followed over the last 5 years, so by all means pick another point on the compass and press. Folks (not the least of which Zelenskyy) want to see Putin/Russia defeated/punished/humiliated. And they are willing to spend as much of our treasure and the UKR military aged population to reach their utopian vision. Here's the bottom line, as I see it: Putin/Russia are not going to be defeated/punished/humiliated without a real cost that we will not want to pay, and I just cannot fathom how everyone is ignoring that elephant in the room.
