  1. From AFPC site: "Officers are positioned for promotion sequence based on the following criteria, applied in the order listed: -Current Grade Date of Rank -Previous grade date of rank, if applicable -Total Active Federal Commissioned Service -Total Federal Commissioned Service -Regular officers will precede Reserve officers. Regular officers will rank among themselves based on date of Presidential nomination for appointment as a Regular officer -Regular Air Force acceptance date; based on the date of the Air Force Form 133, Oath of Office -Graduates of Service academies, appointed as Regular officers and assigned the same date of rank, on the active duty list in order of their graduation class standing -Date of birth, with the earliest date taking precedence -Reverse social security number, with the lowest number taking precedence" From the looks of other Major selects TAFCS seemed to play the biggest part putting all the pilot types towards the end thanks to our six month "vacation". 2. We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chances of an incident if you do it at the end of the week. Edit: attempt at posting pic of the Bobs fail Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums
  3. Thanks for the reply, does Global Entry include Pre Check? We won't use Global Entry much for a few years. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums
  4. Anyone have AMEX waive the fee for a second platinum card as well? I bit the bullet and got my wife a card so I can get her TSA Pre Check. Talked to two separate agents on the phone and they gave me two separate answers (absolutely yes and maybe). Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums
  5. I've recommended reading this report on a different thread, but Panetta's bi-partisan commission report on military personnel changes covers this and many other issues in their recommended changes. Here's the section on DOPMA: "T-1: Replace “up-or-out” promotion processes with a “perform-to-stay” system. For officers, remove DOPMA and ROPMA field-grade-officer- strength tables in order to allow the services to extend the careers of valuable service members who are not competitive for continued promotion. Additionally, allow individual service members to voluntarily remove themselves from promotion consideration in order to continue building technical expertise while also continuing to strengthen their professional résumés to become more competitive for future promotions. For enlisted service members, although there are few statutory limitations on their ability to continue serving, the military services have implemented policies that mimic the officer system of up-or-out. Service secretaries should use their authority to ensure valuable, high-performing enlisted members are not being forced out of the military just because they are not competitive or interested in further promotion. This recommendation would take advantage of the existing military-promotion-board process. Those service members continuing to remain in uniform must continue performing at a high level as verified by annual performance reports and supervisor assessments." It's a pretty cool read if you just skip to the recommendations (we all know the issues so no reason to read the first 50 or so pages). 6. Considering a bi-partisan commission just released a report recommending major changes to the military personnel system, including removal of "up or out", you may be right. If you haven't yet, I highly recommend perusing the report, a lot of good changes if DoD bothers to read it and take it seriously. 9. That's why I asked the question, I understand it's standard for the loan to be sold but who services the loan is something important to me. Full disclosure, I have a family member who worked for Navy Federal in mortgages most of his career that is advising me. Thank you both for the prompt response! 10. Question for NBKC and/or Trident, do either of you sell servicing on your mortgages? Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums
  11. Not all, I know two that "escaped" to the KC-135.
  12. KC-135 1. Ops Tempo/Deployment- New pilots can expect 2 months on, 2 months off for deployments with various TDYs, exercises, alert mixed in. As you grow up in the community the deployments will slow a little. We do not deploy as a squadron but as crews. Because of this there is a lot more fluidity to the schedule with some people getting as little notice as a couple weeks. 2. Lifestyle/ family stability- As you would expect from the above. Squadrons are not as tight knit as the fighter guys. People tend to have their own social circles or just spend time with their family when they are home. Usually day jobs only last 7:30 to 4:30 so you do get a little more time outside of work when not on the road compared to some airframes. 3. Community Morale- Tanker guys pride themselves in being a pretty relaxed community. Most guys/gals are awesome people who won't get wrapped around the axle over little things that don't matter in the long run. 4. Advancements & future of the airframe- For being a 60 year old airframe she's been through a lot of modernization. The latest, Block 45, replaces the last of our steam gauges and replaces our cruddy autopilot, coming to a tanker base near you. The KC-46 is a long way out still and it will probably replace the KC-10 before it replaces the 135. In summary, expect to see the 135 around for a long time to come. 5. Preferred PCS Locations- Two overseas options, Kadena and Mildenhall (or somewhere else in EUCOM in the next few years). MacDill is popular, Fairchild is a hidden gem. Then add in TFA units and you have lots of great options with a couple not so great ones.

    USAA

I'll take this opportunity to plug Navy Federal Credit Union. I'm biased as I have family that worked their but most of their rates are competitive with USAA. When it comes time to take out a new loan I just go with whichever one has the best deal at the time.
  14. I know a lot of people that have used them and this checks with all the reviews I've heard, I start with them very soon so I'll update as required.

  16. IOTE crewmembers have been selected, still waiting on the call for Initial Cadre applications.
  17. Still trying to find out if they put in the flamethrower feature I suggested but they won't respond to my emails.
  18. The way it was explained to me was this is the difference between IMC and Simulated IMC on the 781. IMC means I can't see outside, simulated means I can see but I'm using instruments to conduct the approach. All that regardless if it is in the sim or in the jet. So technically you can log IMC time in the sim and Simulated IMC in the jet. Then again that instructor could just have been wrong.

  23. Must have been the same guy that placed heavy aircrew in last for days deployed and said Grand Forks would get the first KC-46. That paper is laughable at best but fun in a National Enquirer sort of way. Edited for bad grammar. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!
