Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
HeyWatchThis replied to Swizzle's topic in Squadron Bar
Haha wow......thats pretty shitty business ethics...... I admit, Dave Ramsey's teachings on having a budget and sticking to it (I know he repackaged age old advice but its what worked for me) really helped set my wife and I up for a comfortable future but I have never really bought into his investment advice 100%. I'll confess I am a member on the my total money makeover forums and I asked about this..........to no ones surprise the lap dogs who vehemently and blindly defend him came out in full force...... I'll stick to using Vanguard and a few other avenues for investing..............- 1,190 replies

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP

I thought DR strongly advocated against using commission based financial advisors? I know he says that in his videos but are his ELPs going against that? I thought he made money off ELPs by charging them for his name's endorsement?- 1,190 replies

I would call finance...I just recently PCS'd too.......You know how you had to fill out two vouchers, one for finance and one for TMO? Well, apparenlty finance/Ellsworth is only capable of processing one voucher at a time (verbatim answer from my finance shop) it took almost 2 months for them to pay out both my vouchers because once they finally process the first one, their "clock" resets for when they have to process the second one..... -
Thanks...I'll have to talk to my unit about getting orders, or at the very least a RIP, as soon as possible. I'm a reservist so I will be impressed if our local MPF is so on top of things that they have orders for me 60 days out....hell, when I was on AD I barely got orders a week in advance, let alone 60 days.....

(SIE) from OTS, wanting ANG Slot
HeyWatchThis replied to Extra300Driver's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Did he complete training? -
No......I figured by responding to SemperSicEm's post and getting a reply it might fetch updated data from someone who just went thru the process and at the same time update the thread.

(SIE) from OTS, wanting ANG Slot
HeyWatchThis replied to Extra300Driver's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Is it even possible to go back to OTS? I thought there was a question in the app package asking if you had ever been eliminated/dropped out of a commissioning program... -
How far ahead did you get yourself on the wait list. In the reporting instructions it says you can call up to 90 days ahead for the TLF. There is a post in the this thread from a few years ago saying you can get on the waitlist for base housing 30 days ahead..that still the case?
-
Whats the average wait time for on base housing looking like? I'll be heading to Laughlin in March...wife and a 4 month in tow.....

They will probably roll them into one if they are related. I had an initial waiver completed right before I deployed for my PRK. When I got back, I went to MFS and while going thru the eye doc, he mentioned that in my records I had a history of Lattis (sp?). He included the lattis info in the same waiver as my PRK....
-
Unless its changed (and I was at MFS Feb 2012), every single person in my MFS group was from OTS and they had NOT had MFS prior to OTS. They go thru OTS then send you to Wright-Patt. It makes sense (somewhat) from the AF's perspective...if they send you prior to OTS, then you can simply leave (assuming you hadn't sworn in) however if they send you post OTS and you have incurred a commitment, THEY get the choice as to whether or not your cross train or leave.

Say what?......... I was just hired in at a stepped 12 and it's BARELY hitting my 1Lt pay........Capt pay took a GS-13 at least......

IFS (Initial Flight Screening) information
HeyWatchThis replied to a topic in Pilot Selection Process
Anybody hear about the new reg stating that if you already have your PPL you won't be going to IFS? That's the rumor being circulated in the Guard/Reserve section in the June 2012 board thread....... Smokey care to give us the most current info on this? -
I'm lookin at Laughlin in Feb....IFS Nov/Dec.....hope to see some of ya there!
-
When are you projected to go to UPT?
-
I might have miscounted by 1-2 but I counted 41 pilot selections........
-
Yes.........that was a good call haha
-
I got the phone call from my actual unit. I don't think they have sent out/posted the results yet but they are contacting the unit commanders.....
-
Just got the call!
-
There was a meeting this morning with AFRC leadership....IF leadership signed off on the results, they are suppose to come out today, if they didn't, then we wait another day or two.......

I should have caveated my previous statement with every unit will have their own hiring process/preferences. If the hiring officer is saying you need to contact a recruiter, I would listen to him and contact the recruiter. Obviously keep in touch with the hiring officer and continue to get to know the dudes in the squadron but you don't want to start off by ignoring what the hiring officer says......
