  1. Completely class dependent. Some classes have 7 or 8 dudes put T-44's first on their list, making it pretty competitive. Some classes have guys put it 4th on their list but end up heading to T-44's cause no one else wanted it. Most classes are somewhere in between. Definitely let your flight commander know you want it though when its starting to come around to track select.
  2. If this is the same FACT we took in UPT, I only ever saw one person fail this, and it was a guard chick that knew she didnt have to pass, so she didnt try. I maxed it with almost no preperation, and I am definitely not the lifter type... I think most of the guys in my class maxed it.
  3. Great grandfather x3- Civil war, fought for florida Great grandfather- WWI- was at ardenne forest grandfather- T-6 texan, tracked heavies, trained in B-25's, then flew C-47, C-54, C-119, EC-121, korea through Vietnam. Enlisted in 46, did aviation cadets in 48, retired Lt. Col. in 75. other grandpa was army intel officer- korea through vietnam (ret. Lt. Col.) 2 uncles went to west point- signal corps (ret. Col.), and a longbow pilot (AD Col.) Aunt and uncle did Army ROTC, 4 and out Neither of my parents served, but i got my inspiration to fly in the AF from my grandpa. He used to take me to the end of the runway at MCO to watch the planes T/O and land when i was 5 or 6, Got me hooked. I'm currently in T-44's.
  4. Second time its happened in 2 months from the same squadron. Last time it happened everyone was told the next kid to overspeed his jet reporting in inverted would get the boot...
  5. It depends on where you're able to get a place off base. If you get a place close to base and can make a nice chunk of change off the BAH, its a pretty sweet deal. I like living off base. Where I am at, the drive to the flightline is maybe 2 or 3 minutes longer then the drive from the dorms to the flightline. Like the other guy said, they have a system now where multiple Lt.'s can live in one of the houses now instead of the dorms, but come time when all the casual show up, I wouldn't count on that option since they need to have enough houses for the accompanied studs to live. Personally I love living off base. I have a hell of a lot more room then I would of had in a dorm, I'm making an extra 350 bucks off my BAH, and my drive to work is 5-10 minutes depending on the line at the gate. A lot of the guys in dorms put themselves on the waiting list to get off base as well. That said the dorms have their upsides in time to the flightline, and being close to your flight's parties/BBQ's/whatever that are on base. Plus its easy to get a carpool system to the bars or Starkvegas because you'll be there with a bunch of other Lt.'s. Ultimately occupancy is probably going to decide where you go. Be ready for anything and make the most of the situation you get.
  6. Depends on timing... now that everyone is casual at their UPT base there isnt room for all the casuals to live on base. I got here to Columbus in July and was the first casual Lt. kicked off base. Every Lt. that showed up for casual between July and November got the same treatment. Once they kick you off base for casual, they will not require you to move back on for pilot training. *unless they change the rules for next year* There are a LOT of y'all coming in November, so my guess is the dorms are gunna fill up quick and a bunch of you will end up off base. Thats just a guess though and they may figure out how to deal with that problem come November. Be ready for anything.
  7. I've seen 2. One is the FAIP short bus, and some class has a short bus painted like a T-6.
  8. I did the same thing, when I got to ASBC at Maxwell. A random E-4 saluted me and i stopped him, and he gave me a big WTF look. Then I dug out my silver dollar and gave it to him and told him he was my first salute. He got the biggest smile, said "Thanks ell tee!" saluted again and walked into the BX. I found out later my grandpa did the exact same thing back when he was commissioned in 1948.
  9. And my friends said ERAU was way better, and airlines hire guys with less then minimum time just for ERAU grads... Plus 35% of all airline pilot went to Riddle and it's not -30F half of the year. Obviously Riddle is a better choice. *sarcasm off*
  10. When I went to my dodmerb I told them I had taken it in HS and that was the last I ever heard of it, and I know of at least 2 others in ROTC with me that took it and never had any issues with their medicals. Just get the required blood work done, and don't let the doctor keep you on it for longer then 6 months. I personally have never heard of eyes being an issue, and mine are better then 20/20 even though i was on it in HS. However, ignorance is bliss and maybe I just didnt catch the doc say anything about it affecting your eyes.
  11. At Columbus, they wouldnt even issue us flight suits for IFS... we had to get our flight suits from IFS once we got to Pueblo...
  12. MCO

    Date of Rank

unless you go on active duty pretty quick... then its the same day as the Academy graduation... I had heard of this but wasn't sure about it till I checked and my DOR and it was 2 days after I came on active duty... the same day the Academy graduated... Apparently ROTC can not have a DOR earlier then then Academy from the same year...
  13. pilot slots are completely seperate from non-rated... Everyone is on equal footing for the rated board... how the non-rated stuff works I couldn't tell you.
  14. There are pro's and con's to every school. If you're looking to be at a school where almost everyone there is interested in aviation, whether they are ROTC or not, then its not a bad place at all. However, like most technical schools, the girl to guy ratio pretty much sucks. i was an Aero Sci major at ERAU Daytona... if you have any specific questions about the place send me a PM.
  15. I talked to my landlord today and she said she doesnt let new Lt.'s break their leases. I tried to find a military orders clause in my lease but I couldnt, so i think my roomates and I are SOL.
