  1. I was a prior nav at UPT. I wore my nav wings all the way to graduation on all my uniforms. Today, I just wear my pilot wings on all the uniform combos. I think two sets looks funny. I am very proud of my navigator past. Those who know me know what I did before I was a pilot. Every now and then I'll break out a whiz wheel in the briefing room and try to teach the other pilots stuff.
  2. I was just about to post that story. Dumbasses. After I read it, all I could think of was this...
  3. Scooter14

    Howdy

You never want to have a Shit Fart Separator malfunction.
  4. 2 on the Wow. A lot like the parking boot on the alert truck at the parking lot. Those who tried to stop the MEDEVAC scramble are lucky they didn't end up at the Casualty Collection Point. It's mind-boggling how clueless people can be.
  5. I just got an amendment to an order (went to the ICAS conference in Las Vages) authorizing more than max lodging (max lodging $105, lodging at the conference $119). Anyway, the original voucher paid with a note "we can pay you the difference, get an amendment authorizing AEA and submit a supplemental". So I did. Get up to finance and they said I needed a supervisor to sign it. My question is this...on the back of all our orders, it says: //SIGNED// (Insert Ops Group Commander's name here) XXX OG/CC So, if the fucking O-6 approved and authorized my travel and the reimbuirsement of said expenses, why do I have to get a signature on my voucher and, even more so, a sig on the supplemental that finance advised me to do? Also, why is MPF/Orderly Room/the member constantly questioned by finance when the O-6 approved everything? It's frustrating, the whole process.
  6. You're kidding, right? C'mon folks. I'm an officer. Been TDY a lot over the years. Met some stand-up folks, both officer and enlisted both deployed and at home, although IMHO, more of a bond is formed at a tent-city base than at your 0730-1630 home drome rat race. Time marches on. People get promoted. That never changes the fact that you served with them when you were a Lt and they were a SrA and you were on the same crew/mx team/TACP/squadron that went through the good, bad and ugly on that deployment. You got orders out of there, but kept in touch to see how things were back at your first base. You got promoted, they got promoted. Just like that (at least it seems like that), you're a field grader and over halfway through a 28 year career. The aforementioned SrA is now a first shirt. A few years down the road, with a little luck, you'll both attain higher rank. Does that mean you shouldn't call them to have a beer/go fishing/catch a ball game when you get to their base on a TDY or even a PCS? Maybe I'm missing something, but if a jet from my first squadron came through my base, and one of the enlisted folks I served with and knew well was onboard and didn't look me up, I'd be pissed. As long as it didn't belong to the Minnesota Vikings, I think you're OK.
  7. The training part may be the lie, but the closed part isnt
  8. I was there in 06 when they allowed Yahoo mail from the Gov't computers. Our thought was "This is one well-intentioned-email-from-that-hot-stripper-girlfriend-that-Amn/Lt-has back home click away from getting shut down" Well, with commercail Wi-Fi, maybe they assume everyone has a laptop. Or, you need to go tot he BX and get one. Chalk up another AAFES conspiracy right along side the Died hats, Blues Monday, and PT gear.
  9. Dammit. Hopefully that goes away by March. I was there once and apparently the AEF swap overtasked the omelet line. So, therefore in true Died tradition, no omelets. ...even if there was nobody in the omelet line. assholes.
  10. Wow, that's the most heartbreaking picture I've seen in a while. Raider 21
  11. Grandfather - Army, Stationed in Persia (now Iran) in WWII Great Uncle - B-17 Navigator Father - Retired Army Reserve First Sergeant Father-in-law - Artillery Officer and Forward Observer, 2 tours Vietnam Brother - Coastie, patrol boat XO then OCS instructor
  12. Thus confirming the AAFES conspiracy theory Yeah, you betcha.
  13. Oh dear God. That's typical 55WG ops, though. I own a long sleeve shirt, but it is horribly tight around the neck. I'm also a flight-suit-sleeves-pushed-up kind of guy. If I'm wearing a civvie long sleeve shirt, I usually find some way to roll or push up the sleeves. Don't know why, but it happens. My ANG unit subscribes to it, and every monday we begrudgingly put our blues on, because the CSAF said so, and well, he's a General and I'm not. The only saving grace is we can wear whatever we want. Now, we need every other jackass telling what kind of blues we can wear? Get bent.
  14. Ditto on Kim Price. He had a few 2 bedroom ranches on the north side of town just north of Willow. We rented from him and he was more than accomodating.
  15. Discus, Nice job. Next time, post your times out to the thousanths and keep a "getting your ass out of bed and into the jet" log to help speed up the process. a-thomas, You suck at the internet.
  16. Back a bunch of years ago, we had a Nimrod R1 crewmember fly with my RJ crew during OSW. He invited us to their OL, so a couple of us hopped a -130 out to Bahrain to check it out. Seemed like they tried to cram a lot of the same stuff in 75% of the space with 75% of the crew. We never flew, their two sorties during our stay canxed for maintenance. I'm glad they are getting RJ's, I had heard about that yesterday but they didn't tell us the conversion was for the Brits. I do question the logic of replacing a 50 year old airplane with a 50 year old airplane The only thing I can think of was the people at the deopt that used to tell us that it's way easier to drill a hole in sheet metal for new antennas than it is to drill composites. On the plus side... Pod mounted jet engines > wingroot embedded jet engines
  17. 2 Against my better judgement, I stayed up & watched it. I thought Masterson was gonna piss it away, but got through it. Varitek's play on Willits was HUGE, then the walk off RBI in the bottom of the 9th, don't get much better. Looks like they just earned at least 4 more. Go SOX!
  18. 1986 ALCS 2004 ALDS 2007 ALDS The Angels are historically a speed bump on the Red Sox road to victory. History will repeat itself Sun nite @ Fenway. GO SOX!
  19. Wow, I was hoping this would be a useful thread. Stiffler, you are so full of hate now. You were more fun when you were a tanker guy. Hook up a fellow Reserve component (it's a guess, but not much Active Duty in Indy) sister and post some helpful OPSEC friendly info here, for Christ sake. Let's not turn this into a "Manas isn't a war zone and neither is the Deid" pissing match. Things I've gathered from a friendly Boom here on this board who has been there a lot... 2 Beers a day, but they are 20 oz or something like that. PT Gear (like everywhere else in the AOR)...deal with it. The Active Duty guys deal with it 180+ days a year. Sucks, but it ain't gonna change. Weather like Nebraska You'll be there with Reservists/Guardsmen and Active Duty. Play nice. I'd like to know if there are AFN TV hookups like at the Died...maybe Midnight Hot on the Fashion Channel (it's amazing what you remember)...do they crawl up your ass with a microscope in Customs, will my ATT phone work there if I need it if I'm kidnapped and get my hair dyed blue, stuff like that. Again, let's make this worthwhile for those of us who will be there soon like Debbie Boom and Scooter14.
  20. Navy common, or is that 243.0? I think our GCA guys simulcast on 121.5 and 243.0, maybe Ahmadinejad's boys do the same thing...
  21. I can't believe this was missed. You guys are slipping.
  22. Not so fast, Bergman. My unit implements the policy next week.
  23. So, if you are a flyer, what's the latest in AOR wear without getting into the whole AF PT's... Is there an ABU boonie? Can you wear that with a flight suit? If not, what are my options...desert boonie or 8 pt Marine Corps hand me down? What color tee shirt do you have to wear under the flightsuit? Still Black, Brown and/or Sand? I'm not even going to worry about socks. Also, I saw this little gem in the Air Force Times... Wait...what? So we have the Airman BATTLE Uniform, but in order to deploy, we get a "COMBAT" Airman Battle Uniform that we can only wear when deployed. So the one uniform that was supposed to replace the BDU and DCU and create one worldwide deployable uniform to cut costs now has a "combat battle uniform" and a "non-combat battle uniform". Holy fuck.
  24. Thank God they don't have to go to Altus. I don't wish that on anyone.
  25. I love it. Every 120 days, that place goes dumb. A whole new crew shows up and has to go all Obama (we need change) on the place. Reflective Belts, OK, I get it. We have to be safe. Reflective Belts in the AF PT Uniform...YGBFSM. Remove cranium from rectum.
