This a slight thread digression, but I think the T-6s are holding up pretty well. Considering the engine is damn near unbreakable, there really isn't anything else on the airplane that could have a catastrophic failure that would lead to a mishap. No hydraulically operated controls, or super complicated ECS, etc. There's a few small problems with the canopy locking mechanism, and some of the hydraulic pumps are failing (no biggie considering it has the emergency reservoir), but that's about it. If you put the safety record of the Tweet next to the Texan over the same period of time, I don't think the comparison would be even close. As for the AT-6B vs. the A-29: Someone smarter than myself put it this way: The T-6 is a Pilatus PC-9 optimized as a trainer (pretty much just threw an A/C on it), and the A-29 is a PC-9 optimized for light-attack (Embraer used the PC-9 as a basis for it's original Tucano) . I think that about ends the argument right there. Beech is going to fight this to the end though, considering their business situation.

SUPT ops going forward...specifically to IP's
brewskis replied to jetip's topic in General Discussion
Not sure I'm tracking with what you're asking. Everyone should be funded up until the finish their RTU for their MWS. Anything after that is considered 'advanced'. That's drift I'm getting from conversation around the squadron. -

I think what they are referring to when they talk about 'Advanced' training is WIC, PIT, etc type stuff. I'm sure someone can raise a bullshit flag or confirm this, but I've heard dudes/chicks headed to PIT only have orders cut to March 27th. Everything I've heard from any leadership makes it sound like the pipleine to the MWS (UPT, IFF, RTU) is protected. But we all know how things change... -
And for our more recent graduates, check out the first 45 seconds...

He's shielded the flying squadrons from base-wide uniform shenanigans in November. He definately earned some points in my book for that. FWIW, I've never worn blues as a student or an instructor at Vance, and only recently did anyone come down really hard on Friday patches, morale patches, etc. The last crop of wing leadership was a good bunch, IMO.

I was the DTS bitch for the OSS. In hindsight, that's a really good thing to do with a casual student.

Rick Rescorla Here are the highlights from this article: https://www.badassoft...m/rescorla.html I searched his name and couldn't find anything that had been posted on the forum about him, but I was totally in the dark about this guy until recently. I've read the book We Were Soldiers, but I wasn't aware of the 9/11 stuff at all. This guy died doing what he did best..being a motherf****ing warrior.

If you don't go to IFS, you're doing yourself a disservice. I had a few hundred hours on the civilian side, but it was a good indoc into flying for a purpose (not just flying to go flying). It was also challenging, but in a different way that guys with zero time go through it. Although some of the things you do there you forget or don't get wholly proficient at (flying, stand-up, etc), you'll learn how to study, chairfly and work together to attain a common individual goal in the same manner that is expected of you and your class during Phase II. I would have struggled with some of those things in Phase II if I hadn't attended IFS. On top of that, I built some pretty good friendships with the same guys I was going to class up with in UPT. It sucked at times, but all things being equal, I'd do it over again for those reasons alone.

The individual you are speaking of is going to P-Cola to fly Navs in the T-6, not Navy pilot trainees. So you, in fact, are incorrect.

Well, not the entire time...

Thoughts?

I'm a new FAIP. I guess they forgot to tell me that I didn't have the 'bro factor' anymore because I had a family.

Sounds familiar...

We Were One by Patrick O'Donnell I read this one for the first time a while back, but few books have evoked an emotional response from me as this one did. I re-read it recently, and felt the same way I did after I saw Act of Valor ("I used to think what I did was pretty cool, now a I just feel like a ######") . https://www.wewereone.com/

I'm not 100% up on the situation, but you are allowed to put your family on orders for PIT. It seems that most of the TDY en route and ANG/RES guys are doing that. I would think if you were TDY en route, you probably aren't receiving BAH, but I also have zero SA on how the ANG/RES works that.

I think everyone understands why the TLFs are full, but making a family stay in non-accompanied quarters because they can't afford to find a decent place off base for $40/day is pretty low.
-
Update on KRND lodging. They are aware that they can't make you stay on base, but if you are coming here with dependents and are expecting a TLF, you probably won't get one. On top of that, if you show up with dependents, they will have you sign a waiver stating that you know that you will not receive the Non-A letter. In fact, if they have no TLFs available, but have the non-dependent rooms open, they will make you stay in those (even if you have 2+ per room). If you have dependents attending and they don't have TLFs available, tough shit, you aren't getting more than the $40 per day to live off base. Also, in the week I have stayed here, I have had no fewer than 4 issues with my quarters (water leaks, broken A/C, door locks inop, etc). Luckily, I don't have any dependents with me and moving out tomorrow to a PIT pad.

I didn't know he was that legendary in the Airshow world..

What? I don't think the issue of this thread is whether or not the OP can talk and fly at the same time. Also, is this Ralph Royce y'all are talking the same one that used to manage the Lone Star Flight Museum?

Does the leather mic cover not work well enough? Most guys I see in open-cockpit airplanes do just fine with that. Although I wear the helmet and mask at work, I can't think of any situation on the GA side that would be bad enough to make want to roll up to an FBO with a mask on. I once saw a guy get out of a Globe Swift with an old school 'Nam style mask and helmet on and I almost shat myself. Personal technique only, but if you are flying an antique and are going somewhere where you are required to talk to somebody, you're doing it wrong.
