Ok - so what was the process to change the date? I have final approval for March, but want to move it forward to May so kids can finish school and I can keep AD paycheck until I move. ISR says it’s super easy, but isn’t clear on process for officers. Thanks

As of last August (2017), that waiver is only required by the Guard, not reserve. I’m told difficulty to get it depends more on cost of training and benefit to the unit, ie do they have to pay for a full qualification in a new jet v current and qualified, are you filling a full time v traditional slot, how many years do they see you working in the unit. The concern is that you’ll transition, then get passed over again twice and now you’re out of the guard/ reserve too. Unless something unforeseable like a pilot shortage or something happens...

Can confirm (that this is happening, not the number it happened to). Essentially, for these guys their name doesn't appear on either the promoted or not-promoted list, and your SR gets a letter from AF/A1 for you that states: "1. You were recommended for promotion to major by the CY17D Major (LAF) Central Selection Board. Based on adverse information in your record, the Secretary of the Air Force has withheld your name from the promotion list. She has further directed initiation of a removal action via an Air Force From 4363, Record of Promotion Proprietary Action, to permit further review before determining whether you are qualified for promotion. You have the opportunity to provide comments on your behalf. The SecAF will make the final decision on whether to support or not support the nomination. 2. Public notification of the results of this board will take place on 19 Jun 18. Please work with your MAJCOM A1 staff to resolve this action." The letter is dated 5 Jun. From those I've talked to, nobody received it before Friday. They received no guidance on what it means, how to respond, or any kind of timeline or deadline (or deadline for the determination). No details of if you are added back in do you keep your line number off the board or drop to the bottom, or if you are taken out if your six months (and this is your second board) is from the board release or from notification...

I was in a similar situation and moved my stuff about 6 mos before my actual PCS date. When I turned it all in, they didn't care. I even had a full weight ticket from when I moved, but had an empty weight ticket from a couple days before (because I lost the original empty one) and they didn't even question it.

Thanks for your life story. At the end if you didn't get a non-A they will reimburse you up to what it would have cost to stay on base. You'll get Meals/Expenditures per diem either way, but it will be significantly less if you don't have a non-A. Finance may want to see a copy of the lease, but what they NEED to see is a receipt for the amount you paid each month in rent from your rental company.

Anybody purchased a house or applied for home loans recently and have any advice on which bank is currently offering the best rates? I've heard Bank of Kansas City was really good a few years ago, any idea if they're still competitive? Also found this gem from Bergman, posted back in 2006, a good year and a half before the huge fallout:

...And the haircut place always cuts my hair too short. And I only use the dry cleaner for uniforms because when enlisted people take their stuff there I have to wait forever. And the speed limit on base is too low. And I just hate the terrible inconvenience of all the additional services offered to me. Not to mention nobody at the bowling alley can actually bowl...

He is from one of the last classes at Randolph. Not sure about a recent change, but I'm pretty sure I didn't misunderstand as he was pretty heated about it until they told him he'd still be going to Kadena. Perhaps there is more to the story that I didn't catch. I'll try to get in touch with him and let you know. edit: all the Japanese bases look the same

I've got a buddy who just showed up to Kirtland for Talon EWO training about two months ago. He's TDY here, and when he showed up they told him that all brand new Navs/EWOs go to Shadows - regardless of what the orders say (he also dropped Talons). He's also headed to Kadena, and they told him to expect about a three month delay to his original planned arrival at Kadena because of the back up of the Shadows. He also said he's working six days a week right now to catch up after the sim was broken for a week or two. Should be all in house for the -130W specifics - no formal program is set up for them at Kirtland, only the -H and -P/N, and soon the -J.

An unspeakable loss. God bless those heroes and their families. Anybody have any insight as to why a chinook would have been used in this kind of raid? Not being a helo guy, it makes sense to me that something smaller would normally be used for those types of missions? -

Online classes for MBA/other Masters Program

Having done an undergrad in engineering, I feel your pain on not wanting to continue to a masters. If you decide MBA is the route you want to go, decide if you want one from a real school or an easy online MBA. If you want the more difficult option, I recommend taking the GMAT - as mentioned above, most schools that anybody has heard of require it - and applying for the semester you start active duty. That way, you will be active duty when it comes time to pay for the classes and will be able to use TA. Most of the schools are very accommodating to military, so just google "distance mba programs" or whatever program you're looking at, and you'll find all kinds of options. I've heard that some schools as heavy as Duke can be done completely online (or with a minimal in house component), but they can get pretty expensive, others drop the cost down to TA. Beyond that, enjoy your time off, before you move to a town in the middle of nowhere and start pilot training. Travel and visit friends, enjoy free time, and spend money you don't have - you'll save a bunch in UPT. -
Google maps already has it pinpointed. Search "Obama bin Laden's compound Abbottabad Pakistan". A few block from a police station, airport, movie theater. And the Pakistani government had no idea? He was supposedly in there for over six months. Also reported that one UAV involved was RQ-170 Sentinal drone, and two helos, one of which had maintenance issues and crashed, but no injuries.

Perhaps it has something to do with the security level increase at all bases... Edit: CNN just said it has nothing to do with Libya, which would have been my first guess after Gadahfi's son was killed by NATO strike. Edit 2: now trending on twitter: bin laden has been confirmed dead.

CZ still the wing CC. They just took down one of the four SIMs for the update, and it took about three months. While they ran SIMs 24 hours, they only occasionally ran on Saturdays, and never on Sundays that I can remember. Not sure why it would take two years, but I wouldn't be surprised if they finish updating to the H1 (which the flightline has zero of) and immediately start on the H2. I also thought the AMP Sims were separate in a separate building, but I could be wrong about that. Not saying, HercDude is wrong, but knowing the Lockheed Scheduler and his attitude and outlook on things, I am a bit more optimistic about the actual running. Either way, sucks to lose a weekend.

I believe the card I used was Citi's Platinum Dividend Rewards or something and there was no fee. They have since taken those terms out of that card (and even renamed the card and issued me a new one), but I just googled it and found that you can still get a card with price protection, although I'm not sure about fees. 2 One of the least taken advantage feature of many of the higher-credit-score-cards (which it sounds like most everybody on here would be eligible for) is the price protection feature. If the purchase price of a product you bought on your credit card drops within a certain time period after purchase, the credit card company will credit you the difference. For example, in 2007 when I bought my original iPhone for $600 on my credit card a few weeks before they dropped the price to $400. While I was outside the window for Apple to reimburse me the difference (Apple paid anybody back who had purchased it within the week prior or something), I still got a $100 apple credit (which anybody who had purchased the iphone got), plus $200 from my Chase MasterCard because it was price protected. Edit: It was a Citi Platinum Rewards card, not chase MasterCard -

It's really tough to tell since there is a serious convoluted formula. It's got several factors, mileage and weight only being two of them. Since you get reimbursed up to 95% (or 90%?) of whatever it would cost the government, there is a big portion based on the frequency of the route - i.e. it would cost the government less to add your stuff to a really busy route (like to/ from a huge base or military area) than it would from one very rural area where you're the only military person. I think the formula has a spot for moving from and moving to locations, with a rating of 'frequency' from 1-5. I'm certain there is a table with each zip code listing the zones, but I don't know where to find it other than in the TMO office. Beyond that, even the weight is also a little tricky. It's based on 100s of lbs, but the table is split by thousands, so at each 1000 lb increment, the cost per mile per pound resets (because shipping 1000 lbs might be just slightly less than 2000 lbs if you're in a very rural zone and a majority of the cost is just getting the moving company there), so in certain cases, having 1980 lbs would get you paid more total than having 2001 lbs (although these numbers are arbitrary and this is rare, it is possible). But sometimes a cost cannot be put on having access to your belongings immediately upon arrival and knowing they weren't lost anywhere or damaged along the way. You will either make money, or lose just a little bit in very rare cases. I suggest moving it yourself if you don't mind the headache, and have the time to drive it down there. But to answer your question of some number, a friend of mine always swore by the WAG formula of number of lbs of stuff/number of thousand miles = approximately how much I'll get paid (I have 600 lbs and am moving 1000 miles, I'll get $600). Personally, I have no idea how accurate that number is because I'm not smart enough to try and keep all the numbers straight in the end. -
