Drop them out of UPT, or transfer into them.

When I got PRK, they looked at my records to make sure my eyes had been a constant prescription for a certain time prior to make sure they still weren't changing (or changing minimally). Fortunately, I've still got the 20/20 vision now that I did right after my surgery (well, after healing) - and I test 20/15 some days. Unlike you, I wasn't lucky enough to weigh options - I either got the surgery, or I wasn't eligible for a pilot slot. But I can echo the sentiments above - that surgery is one of the best things that I've ever done for myself. If you're worried about the money issue, don't be. You'll make more money as a 2nd LT as a UPT base than you know what do with (and you won't have to buy anymore contacts or glasses...), but it's worth more than that. I don't know if you wear glasses or contacts regularly now, but the quality of life in general - not just with regards to flying - is so much better never having to deal with it. That said, while I know countless guys who have gotten surgery and it has improved their lives and made them eligible, I know one guy who got the surgery and his eyes didn't heal right. Medically disqualified for pilot, but he loves being a nav. But if we always stayed inside because of the fear of what might happen that .01% of the time...

About a year ago, NSAs were still being marketed as 6mo on/ 6 mo off deployment schedule to studs. We were also given the impression that once you got AFSOC stink on you, you were more than welcome to stay in (less likely to get out). U-28s fly out of Hurlburt, most of the NSAs (if not all) are out of Cannon. I have a buddy who has been doing it for a little over a year now and loves it. He has a lot of those, "I can't tell you what we really did, but it was awesome..." stories. They also lead us to believe that you had a little more freedom to fly in and out of places you wanted to go as long as the overall mission got done, but I don't know much about the extent of that statement.

Can somebody repost the zap? it's showing as a bad link on my browser.

No way. Pulling the PCL from MAX into IDLE is a technique to drop overtake quickly on a rejoin (as in the IDLE position, the prop blades are pressurized to windmill perpendicular to flight path creating max resistance). If the engine shut off from moving the PCL from MAX to IDLE quickly, they wouldn't have blamed the pilot for the error - I slammed the power from MAX to IDLE and back sixty nine thousand times as a student who had trouble learning to anticipate power... and I'll bet I'm not the only one. I remember when the event happened looking at the area that they were rumored to be assigned to and if they were in a low area (as formations often request), I think it could have been tough to get to a usable field. They report says they missed that decision, so either I remember incorrectly, or they're hanging him out to dry a bit. Doesn't that only apply when you are on landing profile to a runway? I don't remember. Can anybody refresh my memory? 2

There is. And students are taught from day one in the SIM not to drape hand over throttle in off chance they lift it up. I have no idea how an IP could have cut it off, the cutoff guard is pretty far out of the way - not even sure how you could do it accidentally. I'm as interested to hear how you could damage the engine in a restart attempt to permanently disable it. My T6 systems knowledge has been completely dumped...

Accident Investigation Board released yesterday: https://www.airforce-magazine.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/Reports/2011/March%202011/Day04/T-6A_AIB_030311.pdf Says IP shut down engine and performed restart procedure improperly, severely damaging engine and preventing a restart.

What is the cost of that app? And I thought the GPS used some kind of cell signal, but I guess not? So it works at altitude? That is pretty sweet.
-
I know a guy who used it for his training in T-1s. Said it was the easiest thing in the world... after he finally got his IPs to warm up to it. He also said the cost is currently only like $70 a year. I will be shocked if that doesn't skyrocket.

Or Obama could stop the whole thing by just telling the French to f* off because he wants to keep the jobs and the money in the US. I'm certain Sarkozy wouldn't hesitate to do the same to us...

There's a familiar headline.

Sure enough. Guess I missed when it got turned over last year. I just remember it from when it was passed and googled it to reference it. Lesson learned. Thanks.

Can't decide, but I'm pretty sure I feel this is worse than our buddy Timmy... It's one thing to exaggerate being a pilot in the press, and then to continue to make the claims when given the chance to correct your story, and make false posts to defend your story, and... But this guy, who actually was in the AF, who once took the Oath of Enlistment and who I believe honestly understood those values at some point, to actually parade around in a fake uniform, accept real awards, and get multiple public acknowledgments... I mean, that really grinds my gears. I just can't figure out what would drive this guy to this and think he would get away with it. How did he become so jaded with the AF (any idea what his general discharge was a result of?), or did he feel like he was a disappointment to his family and just got caught in too deep in a web of lies, or was it so dirtball as the guy mentioned above in this thread about using the USS Oklahoma story to work on his game?

That's about how far I got before you lost your credibility with me. All the accomplishments in the world can be decredited by trying to support a serious argument with third grade insults. "I'll bet the new guy is a stupid poo poo head..."

Sarah Palin on Obama's State of the Union: "And his theme last night in the State of the Union was the 'WTF,' you know, 'Winning the Future.' And I thought, 'OK, that acronym, spot on.' There were a lot of 'WTF' moments throughout that speech." https://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2011/01/sarah-palin-turns-obamas-win-t.html

Permenant RPA schoolhouse starts first class

Anybody recently been to IFS that knows what their two month long program entails? Do they get their full PPL? When I went through a few years ago pilot-selects were only there for a month and navs only like three weeks. Just curiuos as to what they do the extra month since I had heard part of the limitations of a RPA only career field is that they weren't able to fly them in the US because of FAA rules that they didn't have their license or something. -
Awesome, thanks. Will definitely check that out if I am able to secure the non-a. What kind of TV do they have in southwest suites (I know it sounds picky but I'm a big sports nut and have to watch EVERY game)? Anybody heard of this place? Or know what kind of area it's in? It looks way more manageable without a non-a. https://www.liveatalliance.com/BroadstoneTowneCenter/Index.aspx

Isn't Southwest Suites like an extended stay hotel service? all the apartments are furnished and utilities are included? The only issue I have with them is aren't they over the allotted housing per diem for TDY? Thanks.

My wife and I are moving there in a couple months for TDY over the summer and are looking for a nice place to live off base. Ideally, we'd like to live in some kind of downtown area where we can walk to bars and restaurants, that isn't too far a drive from base. Anybody have any suggestions? Hoping to get a Non-A but I've heard the lodging there is super stingy about them. Thanks.

FWQ still exists, and as mentioned above, it's a much shorter program. As a recent UPT grad with a FWQ guy in my class (also an Army Helo guy, going to the Puerto Rico guard), I can tell you that, at least at Laughlin, they treat it as a complete gentlemen's program. He pretty much came and went as he pleased - there was no formal training schedule, he took several months of leave during UPT. I don't think he had to take Emergency Procedure Quizzes, and I know he didn't have to participate in stand ups. It's kind of like he got extra training that he might not have needed, without any of the hazing of UPT. I never noticed any IPs (including FAIPs) treating him like he wasn't already a pilot there for requal. Basically, if you're not in the FWQ program, find a way to get into it. You'll be there about half as long, and it won't be near the asspain.

What're they doing to it?
