  1. Who’s ready for another shout out to Trident?! For context. I have bought and sold dozens of homes, storage facilities and been involved in a dozen commercial real estate deals. I mention that to say I have seen the whole range of service in this industry. (And it’s a huge range) Jon and Trident are simply awesome. Yes they will get you the best rates. Yes they will try to save you money at every turn. They will also make the process as smooth as possible. That to me is equally important in this insane market where I’d you find what you want, you sure as hell better be ready to close. Thanks so much Jon and the Trident team!
  2. Thanks! If anyone has done any Harvard certificates please drop me a note. Thanks in advance!
  3. Thread bump for question: Has anyone had success using tuition assistance (not GI Bill; I am talking TA while you are still active duty) to get a Harvard (or any other school) certificate when you already hold a higher degree? I have an MBA but would like to keep learning more but I am not sure they will approve since that is a "lateral" or "lower" program.
  4. .”I have worked 3 days on short call this month so far.” Folks, unless you value your time at zero, please stop saying this. If you are required to be within a certain geographic radius, fit for flying duty and contactable....you are working. Don’t sell yourself and your profession short.
  5. Been forever since I PCS'd....let alone overseas. Can someone remind me of entitlements? TLE: How many days and do I need a statement of non-A if I want to stay off base? PTDY for house hunting? What if we are on waiting list for on base? COLA? Is that a thing in Hawaii? Dislocation allowance? Missing anything? Thanks in advance-love me some base ops for info.
  6. Thanks for the reply and link!
  7. When PCS to Hawaii I understand government will pay to ship one vehicle. Do you have to get that vehicle to a port on a coast or will they pick it up wherever you are? (Middle of country for us) yes I know I could go tmo and ask this but that would require more patience than I possess.
  8. I was in the guard before Afrc. The irony is not lost on me.
  9. You need to spend a few hours searching the threads. There is lots of information there.
  10. The first time I applied for the afrotc det/cc board and was selected. I thought Afrc would be thrilled for the representation not to mention everyone had told me for years to do awc, get a masters, deploy and command. (I’ve done all but command) Second time I applied for a rated staff job I knew had vacancies. If you know what you want, tell them. If you want to see what’s available apply and afpc will give you a call. The whole process takes an incredible four months. Amazingly, the process goes through Afpc for all the staff work before Afrc decides if they are going to release you. It was pretty embarrassing to have some great people at Randolph spend a lot of hours staffing all of this only to have Afrc say no. Twice.
  11. I applied twice (once for a sq/cc job I was competitively selected for) and was denied release by the Afrc/cv. 11F When they denied me the second time, I dropped retirement paperwork that day. So they lost yet another 11F....in this case one who was actually willing to continue serving.
  12. I hear you and I’m a fan of facts! Looking forward to reading the study you posted below. I’m not antiairline and the big money at all-just in the case I responded to (late rated with four years left) I bet the difference isn’t giant. And no, he won’t make $300,000 in his 40s. He’s probably right at 40 now making this decision.
  13. If I offered you $1.6mm to stay in with the only stipulation being you could only take $50k a year of it out would you do it? I’d stay in personally if you can avoid 365 and your family supports. Minor thread derail but people’s “expected earnings” stuff for the airlines never seem to discount to present value. In other words, the fact that by staying in a couple years you might miss a couple years of $300,000 in your sixties isn’t that big of a deal.
  14. I’ve spent hours playing with pv, npv and different discount rates on the check of the month club. By my reasoning, it is worth at least $1.6mm in today are dollars. If you offered me $1.5mm cash right now but I had to forgo my pension I wouldn’t take it. Now whether that is worth the blood sweat tears and Usaf bafoornery-well that is certainly debatable!
  15. “Guys keep saying ARC can't fill slots...how can Draken et al fill their slots? If ARC/USAF needs to add more bonuses or work rules to the specific job to compete, then so be it. Or if that's too much trouble, make the pilot portion a contractor job.“ You haven’t thought this through so I’ll help. There are lots of folks (I am one) that aren’t going to give up an agr retirement to stay in arc as a gs-whatever and tr. the math doesn’t work. There are other guys at hyt or tig that have to retire even though they’d enjoy adair/red air/whatever. Other guys only want to do it part time. The list goes on. Until AFRC gets busy changing a lot of rules and qol issues, they aren’t going to hack any mission let alone additional missions.
