As I mentioned earlier in this thread I applied and was accepted and then denied release by afrc. (11f). I know of at least one other that was denied. I'd also like to hear from folks who VLPADed. (Now it's a verb!)

"Also, if we think we have it bad because of ###, we need to go to see those in Walter Reed and reconsider if we really have it that bad." They didn't really say that, did they? Tell me they didn't say that.

Ackc-congrats dude. That is awesome. We had a former infrantry officer in one of my f-16 ANG units (he had sf and ranger tabs too) and it was cool.
-
There are two reasons: 1-much less risk of g lock 2-much less risk of spacial d due to way less night flying.
-
You used logic and called me old all in one post. Bravo good sir. (Still would like some free money since I'm one of about six dudes left from my year group)
-
Speaking of bonus shenanigans, I'm going to keep asking why Afrc has a 16 years tafms restriction but the ANG doesn't until someone can provide me an answer.
-
I have a question: Why is there a tafms restriction for Afrc but not for the ANG? Id ask Afrc myself but they didn't put a single way to contact anyone on the message.

I honestly think some of this has to do with the age of the people making these decisions. It is very difficult for people to place inflation into real context. I've had the following conversation with my dad: "Sierra Nevada is $14 a 12 pack?! That's so expensive!" "uh dad. Do the math on what beer cost 20 years ago" thinks...... "you're right. Bargain "
-
It is also apparent that the following announcement would hold more people than the bonus: "No more 365's. Period. For anyone."
-
Not to be pedantic, but it really does matter: you would pocket $75,000 at the absolute top. Make sure you factor taxes in when making this decision.
-
It was released if you didn't have a chance to look at it. The 16 year TAFMS restriction is still in place which is frustrating. And before you say, "well they already know they have got you," consider this: that could be the difference in staying past 20. I know of numerous folks (myself included) that were on the fence about extending their AGR time past 20.

Since this is the PRF thread, I have a couple PRF related questions: 1) Can you point me to anywhere that has examples, suggestions, etc? I am sure someone has made a "do's and don'ts" list. 2) I am still a little confused on what can an can't be put on there. For example, I was an Army officer before I got tired of sleeping in the dirt-should I put a line or two highlighting that seven years? Thanks in advance. I do have two copies of successful PRF's but both of those guys were way more accomplished than me.

Fair enough. The whole "safe space" thing certainly belongs right here in the wtf thread!
-
What in the world are you talking about? Can you provide some examples of your personal experience with "whiny little bitches who don't want you to infringe on their safe space?" I ask because I was stationed there for two years in the Army and five years in the Air Force. I went to grad school at UCLA. I have skied every mountain (except June Lake and Northstar), kayaked nearly every river, and surfed from Santa Barbara to San Diego. I have even spend many a fun weekend in San Francois with my wife. I think the single most annoying person I ever ran across in all of that time covering every inch of that state was one D-Bag in Monterrey who was smoking a joint just steps away from a restaurant we ate at. My Texas experiences? Just like California without the outdoor activities I love. You sound like someone from Georgia talking about New York in 1859.
-
These generally sweeping polarizing stereotypes are so absurd. Have you never spent any time in the Central Valley of California? It is Texas with mountains to the east. Have you ever spent any time in Austin or Dallas? They are similar to California cities just with no ocean. I have lived in both states (among the 16 I have resided in) and they are my two favorite behind my home state of Oregon.

It is absolutely stunning to me it will be June tomorrow and it still isn't out. I don't buy the "it's because there isn't a budget yet" argument whatsoever. I still put this squarely on the Air Force. If it were a priority, some flag officer would have made sure this gets included in the CR or attached with other spending. Rumor has it the 15 year TAFMS restriction will still be in place for AFRC folks.
-
Here is a new thing I am starting to see: commanders simply saying, "I won't consider dealing with your curtailment request unless you already have a replacement lined up." I know of this happening in the case of both fighter and heavy pilots. And neither have found a replacement yet.

Buy! I wish I'd never sold my rosamond house and think the av will continue to appreciate. I am not bullish on a lot of real estate in the west but I still think the av will be a great investment.
-
That isn't a lot of money. At all. The npv of that is under $40,000. Total.

What was amusing to me about this was I was I heard virtually the exact same comment from buddies at Alaska, United, SWA, AA, and Delta: "Dude, why did you even apply for that?! You can already retire! Get your app in and get over here. It's great!"
-
I applied to VLPAD. I was selected....for a command no less. Then AFRC denied my release. I am an 11F, AGR, already locked up an AGR retirement and have no ADSC or GI Bill or any type of debt to AFRC. Unbelievable.

"My intent of the stock split talk was more of future affordability...kind of like Apple post 7-1 split." I am not trying to pick on you, but this is twice now in this thread you have something bizarre or wrong about splits. Affordability? What are you talking about? Unless you are only buying one share of something you can barely afford, it doesn't matter. You got the same amount of apple for $100 (or any denomination) the day before and the day after the split. I can think of one time ever that "affordability" of a given stock has mattered: Berkshire (which has never split) is expensive per share. Which is exactly why they created B shares. My advice as a dumb pilot that does have degree in finance and an MBA from a top 15 program, unless you can discuss: leading and trailing pe, yield and beta on a coherent level at a minimum you have no business buying individual equities. Buy an index fund and sleep tight.

I didn't get back to this until other good quotes were in there. I'll start by saying, I'm not against leverage at all. I love leverage. I leverage property as much as I can and the couple businesses I've been in (storage mostly) have of course levered. My point on borrowing money to invest is that under almost all circumstances you'd have to take some risk to have any spread on the yield. You mentioned this loan at 1.5% which is of course very cheap money. But look at cds, and t notes. You'd have to take some near term risk to even yield greater than 1.5%. That was my only point.
