  1. Here's to hoping he can escape or gets rescued....
  2. I'm ANG and mine (initial payment) took about 8 weeks. Word is there is a single person at NGB processing them for the entire ANG.
  3. I agree. Here's a great article on the decline of chivalry and over-sexualization of society in general. BL: Women can't ask for men to be chivalrous and then flaunt their sexuality at the same time. In this particular instance, I don't think the fact that she's a cheerleader makes it safe to assume that she wants to be objectified. I choose to give her the benefit of the doubt.
  4. It used to be called being a gentleman, but you may call it what you want.
  5. You're missing the point. I would venture to guess that most of us are well aware of the 2/10 meme. I don't think anyone was implying that she was unattractive. We get the joke. When the posts were made of a woman holding a phallic object (ref the "gummy" comments) and "would not bang", the conversation turned from making fun of our Strike Pig driver bro to hyper-sexualizing his soon-to-be wife. Not all women are "asking" to be ogled and treated like a piece of meat. I hope that we would make the assumption that, until proven otherwise, every woman - especially a bro's fiancé - is deserving of being treated like a lady.
  6. I actually agree. I guess I should've figured the discussion would quickly turn to her. I was really just hoping for some more witty Eagle bashing. But damn bros, they both will probably see this at some point. Maybe chivalry is dead. Maybe I'm old fashioned. Is it classy to make jokes about banging each other's wives / girlfriends? There's gotta be a line somewhere. My guess is it got crossed on page 1. Like I said, good on him.
  7. I knew there was an explanation. Oh well, let the Eagle bashing continue unabated.
  8. https://www.today.com/news/air-force-captain-proposes-cheerleader-during-nfl-game-2D80214089 I'm taking bets on this being a well-coordinated hoax to redeem the eagle community from the ever-lasting shame of Cosmo Username: VIRGINIABACH07 Anyhow, good on him (the former, not the latter).
  9. NPV Calculation: Bonus vs. Airlines Scenario 1: 11 year major takes the bonus, retires at 20 as Lt Col. Scenario 2: Guy punches from AD, immediately gets hired by Delta, flies 757 till year 6, year 7 starts flying 767-400. Notes, warnings, cautions: 1.) Retirement benefits not considered. A whole other (and more complicated) discussion. 2.) I took per-hour airline pay from AirlinePilotCentral.com and multiplied by 1,000. Don't know how accurate that is as far as gross pay, I've heard it's a close approximation for the average guy. 3.) I included the tax benefits of AD (no tax on BAS/BAH) and also added in the estimated monthly value of health care to try and make apples to apples comparison. I'm using my own BAH and flight pay, adjust accordingly for your own situation. 4.) I'm assuming the opportunity cost of capital is 7%. Could be more or less for you. Short version: Present Value of cash flows from staying on AD with the bonus is about $200,000 greater than going to the airlines with the above assumptions. ETA: If anyone knows how to paste data from excel into the body of the post and retain formatting, please let me know. Airlines vs AGR.pdf
  10. Am I mistaken or did you just call a dude out, by name, in order to shit on him publicly? ETA: The spellangs is dificullt.
  11. Anybody have words on ANG/AFR ACP?

    Mustache March

I think if you read between the lines, Gen. Welsh is making it clear that he is the leader of the anti-establishment; the establishment being the hyper-sensitive, over-regulated, non-sensical organization that the Air Force has become over the last 10 years.
  15. Gen Welsh came to the 138th FW (Tulsa ANG) on March 7th. He did an all-call and a pilots-only town hall for about 45 minutes. A few days prior, our WG/CC told us "The general does not want softball questions. Ask him the tough ones." There were no preselected questions, no pre-approval, nada. And guess what? Everyone was professional, asked tough questions, and got honest answers from CSAF. +100 morale points.
  16. Don't underestimate the importance of good ol' fashioned bullshit sessions with your folks. It's the only way you'll really get to know them.
  17. Nothing I have said trivializes any of our service, including my own. I'm quite proud of it, actually. My concern is the prevention of losses in the next major conflict. Since we don't have the tempering process of intense combat to keep us focused, we will need bold, forceful leadership to cut through the bullshit that has filled the vacuum during 10+ years of a low-intensity conflict and keep us focused on fighting and winning the next war. Right now we are failing at that, miserably. If you can't see the bullshit that I speak of, perhaps it is you that is wearing the rose-colored glasses.
  18. I agree with you that the AF mission in GWOT is vital and not without risk. I've been on a few sporty ones myself both in Iraq and Afghanistan, but always in the mighty Viper and not in the C model as you assume. Did you see a photo of me in Cosmo or something? Combat loss = directly attributable to the enemy (shot down, crashed while engaging enemy) Number of manned aircraft combat losses in GWOT 2001-2008 = 3 (1 x A-10, 1 x F-16, 1 x MH-53). Not sure how many we've lost '09-present but I'm pretty sure there's a couple more. Source: https://www.airforcemag.com/MagazineArchive/Pages/2009/January%202009/0109world.aspx Number of manned aircraft combat losses in Vietnam 1964-1973 = 2,251 Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_losses_of_the_Vietnam_War Would you really look a Thud or Jolly Green driver from 'Nam in the eye and tell him your missions during GWOT were "intense"? I wouldn't. Combat, real combat, hardens a fighting force and makes it very focused on just one thing: killing the enemy. We are not, despite your objections to the contrary, engaged in this type of combat, nor are we focused on killing the enemy. The Air Force is focused on SAPR, diversity, inclusion, CBTs, SOS, masters degrees, VSP, BRAC, and sequestration. Seriously, go to www.af.mil and you'll see what we're focused on. It's going to take real vision and leadership to regain our fighting focus. Gen. Welsh may be able to swing the pendulum a bit, but he's one of the few that get it and he's having to fight his own people to get it done. I'm incredibly proud to be in the Air Force. But if we're not careful the next war may catch us with our pants down.
  19. Easy now, bro. I said I'm not taking anything away from those that have done good work in the shit, and especially those that have paid the price. But how many enemy-caused combat losses have we had in the last 10 years? My point is that the intensity of combat for the Air Force in the aggregate has been relatively low in comparison to WWII, Korea, Nam, and Desert Storm. As a result, we've had plenty of time to become the queep machine that the Air Force is today. We will continue to be lost in the wilderness until the next no-shit shooting match happens. It will cost lives as we shrug off the decades of risk-aversion and shit-can the queep-master weenies who have no place in a fighting force, but we will quickly regain our focus and morale.
  20. We are not in combat. Not to take anything away from the good work we have done over the last 10+ years, but it ain't combat. When there's a real question of whether you or your wingman will come back from a sortie - that's combat. The reason for all the queep and lack of focus is because there are very few individuals left in the Air Force who have experienced that.
  21. From the article: "Sources told Stars and Stripes that the female Army lawyer alleged that Morse attempted to kiss and grope her against her will. The alleged assault reportedly took place in a hotel room..." Rookie mistake. Everyone knows when invited to come into a female JAG's hotel room (or she comes over to yours) you always make sure you whip out the 69-page "Consent to enter into a relationship of a sexual nature" contract before you put the moves on. Oh, and never dip your pen in the company ink. Ever. ETA: more innuendo
  22. Solo T-38 ride at SPS rocketed out of the top of the airspace by 6-9k feet, turned off mode C over the top. Note at ops desk upon return to go see ADO. "Why do you think you're in my office?" "Because Ft Worth center called you?" "No, it was because you knocked me over as I was preflighting the jet next to you when you got stuck in the turn out of chocks and damn near went mil power to get going again. And then your crew chief called to let us know you left your probe heat on at shutdown and he burned his hand. Now, why would center be calling me?"
  23. Final Report is out: https://afcommission.whs.mil/public/docs/AF%20Report.pdf
  24. Awesome. Mikey Weinstein, put that in your pipe and smoke it.
