No parachutes on heavies
Accurate story. It is now across the ramp at the Kansas Aviation Museum. No shit this happened up at K.I. Sawyer. The other successful -135 bail-out was at Clinton-Sherman around the mid-1960s timeframe, IIRC.

A Toast in Remembrance of the Fallen...
I read all of his books as a kid and re-read them as a Lt. They never got old. I was friends with him on Facebook and he eloquently posted when I made Captain that the Lt teflon "Usually it doesn't wear off, it gets chewed off by senior Captains." True words. As it was stated before, he was real down to earth and a true warrior. I'll be drinking in his honor.

Hopefully he has a star now.- KC-46A Candidate Bases Announced
The autopilot from the 50s ended up in the dump decades ago. The current autopilot is "new" but leaves a lot to be desired. Like it was stated before, it will keep you in trim 99% of the time but it has a passive-fail design which can surprise you during A/R (C-17 moving rapidly to the forward envelope is a good example). WRT KC-46 basing, it is going to go like this. FTU at Altus, too much political momentum. The first operational base will be Fairchild, followed by Pittsburgh and Grand Forks. McConnell will be the last AD base to receive the jet, or maybe just before MacDill for two reasons. 1) McConnell has a ton of jets to replace and 2) McConnell has every single -135 mission. Too many variables to make it efficient.- GEN Norman Schwarzkopf Passes
RIP, sir. Him Him.- Brit's buy 3 RC-135's
My post was entirely sarcastic.- Brit's buy 3 RC-135's
Hmmm, very logical. I mean, an aux pump from a 58 model is entirely different than a 64 model.- Brit's buy 3 RC-135's
"2!" I was surprised to read those tail numbers. There are a bunch of low-time E-models that just got to the Boneyard, probably lower time fliers than -14838. Wonder how much it would cost to modify that for what the Brit's need. Not to mention all of the low-time EC-135s the AF retired around the same time as the F-111 that had anywhere between 13-20,000 hours on them.- SOS/ACSC information
The Class 6 isn't bad at all. It is much better than in 2007. Every week they had a rotating sale on different liquors, and I picked up a couple bottles of The Glenlivet 15 for a good price. They have a lot of beers from all over the States. My only suggestion is to look at the date on the bottles, I came across a six-pack of Bell's Oberon from 2010 this past summer. With that being said, a few guys in my SOS class ordered some six-packs through the Class 6 and they arrived within a week, a much better delivery date than most AAFES Class 6s.- USAA
Agreed. My realtor, who is a USAA realtor found through USAA, was former Navy and gave us a list of mortgage companies in case USAA was being a hassle. After shopping around we went with a local realtor and insurance company, and still got the $950 from USAA. The closing costs were lower, the interest rate was lower, and the insurance was cheaper (by $55 a year). The best part was being able to walk into an office and talk to the person handling the mortgage.- History Friday
