  1. Maybe the designers of the BUFF didn't want a recorded cockpit conversation going down into the Soviet Union. Just a thought. They should install one now.
  2. To the one's we lost Still holding out hope for the other four.
  3. Follow on question: Are all six seats wired to fire solo or can they be set to all fire if one is pulled?
  4. I hope they find them! General question, are all crewmembers in a BUFF strapped to a rocket seat during all phases of flight? I have these memories of watching Dr Strangelove and seeing them walking around a lot.
  5. Not original, but you know it's happened to you...
  6. Something else to add...I'm not sure how you do with the ladies, but if you get the chance to talk to a zoomie, ask them about the "blue goggles", they're comparable to the famous West Point "Gray Goggles". It'll open your eyes to what you may have in store.
  7. Both are good programs and when it comes down to it you'll just have to look into both and decide which is a better fit for you. The freedom of ROTC is definitely appealing but if you're drawn to the more military "lifestyle" that the academy offers, then that may be the better option. If you like both, then I would recommend that you look into one of the Senior Military Colleges in the country and the various programs they provide. For me Texas A&M and the Corps program was the best of both worlds. Virginia Tech also has a Corps program, although I'm less familiar with it. What I ended up with was an "academy" type environment (rigorous freshman experience, very close knit group of peers, living and eating every day in a military environment, and uniforms every day) while attending class with civilian students, including some very nice looking ladies, one of whom I ended up marrying. Another bonus for me was that all four services were represented in the cadet Corps so it will be a great experience to learn about the Army, Navy and Marines, as many of your fellow cadets will be pursuing commissions in those services, something you won't find at the Academy. If you go to a Senior Military College, then just remember that you'll still officially be an "ROTC" student and will have to compete for rated slots through their program, which are considerably more difficult to come by than at the academy, from what I've heard. You'll also have to do Field Training, although it will probably be a joke. Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senior_Military_College Again, make your own decision. This was just my experience, hope it helps.
  8. It's douchebag dweebs like this that make the other services justified in their Air Force bashing... Choke yourself.
  9. I prefer "Spwings" over "Swings" since it's not already a word. Anyway, I don't have a problem with new AFSCs deviating from the standard "round" looking badges that everybody wears (and I can't tell the difference between) The pocket rocket is a good badge example, distinctive and easily identified. I just don't see why everything, even something as unrelated to aviation as CYBER Warrior, requires "wings" or any sort. Get a computer monitor shaped badge with f'ing lightning bolts shooting out or something. Creativity = Good
  10. Or the proverbial clown suit and high powered rifle... Can't remember who said that but everytime I pass the water tower here at Randolph I laugh
  11. "Final approval and specifics of the wear criteria is under review at the Air staff. " Any chance of anybody on the Air Staff making a good decision?
  12. Don't we have pilots wearing stars in charge of approving (or in this case, rejecting) abominations like this!?!
  13. That was sarcasm!?! Damn...I thought I had finally encountered someone else who "gets it". The search continues (sigh)
  14. how quick is the control imput response time? Is there a lag? Or is this getting too detailed.
  15. a few questions somewhat on topic: Do UAV operators talk remotely on the radio to local ATC? Can/Do they fly VFR? Do they fly patterns at airports or are they always given straight in?
  16. Upon closer inspection of the picture site, there is a caption above the text that says "illustrative photo"...ie. "we don't have a good photo of the event and don't think anybody will notice anyway"
  17. Doesn't look like a 747 to me...

"4", Hell, I bitch when I have to run a PFT in the cold
  19. Truly sad. I'm sure they were doing what they loved.
  20. At my commissioning some did and some didn't. I didn't have anybody there to render my "first salute", so I guess my actual first salute was walking across Maxwell when I got to ASBC, they clearly had somewhere to be and so did I, hence, no silver dollars were given. I think it's a nice tradition though.
  21. That being said. I've heard that it goes both ways. Now I haven't been to UPT yet so take what i say with that in mind, but I've been told that in some classes, nobody wants UH-1's so it goes to somebody low on the totem pole, while in others there might be 3 dudes who duke it out for the one helo slot. Either way, if you go in there REALLY wanting helos and your IPs and buddies know it, I imagine you stand a pretty good chance.
  22. Geeze guys, don't you know that American warriors have ALWAYS shined their freaking boots!?! It's the mark of a KILLER! Except for Chesty Puller...that guy was a pussy.
  23. doctorate?
