  1. 2 on the above. I'm also a 24 year-old 1LT pilot, and my copilot buddy pays a good chunk of my mortgage every month. I'm a fan of the indexing strategy too, but if you're looking to do more, you can try to tilt your portfolio toward sectors that seem undervalued. Financials would be one current example, and there's a lot of talk about emerging markets right now, which have obviously lagged the developed world recently.
  2. Already done, but guys aren't stopping there. I have nine years left on my UPT ADSC as of this week. Know what the all the new copilots are talking about around the office? The ATP written exam.
  3. The Academy's response: https://s3.amazonaws.com/content.gazette/USAFA%20PA%20re%20Mr%20Eric%20Thomas.pdf Edit to add: "The program uses people who confidentially provide vital information about criminal activities that would not otherwise be available. AFOSI uses that information to initiate or resolve criminal investigations. This is an Air Force-wide program and is not something unique at the Air Force’s Academy."
  4. It was indeed a much different place than what I had expected, personally, and usually not in a good way.
  5. Good info, not sure how I hadn't thought of that. Thanks gents.
  6. Couldn't find a better thread to put this in, but I'm looking to pick up a display case for a flag to be given as a gift. Any gouge on good quality manufacturers out there?
  7. From a SERE instructor: A fat nav and a skinny nav jump out of a plane. Which one hits the ground first? Who cares?
  8. That's the heart of the problem right there. It's not just safety either - appearances seems to matter more in today's AF than performance, mission accomplishment, etc.
  9. I chuckled. What America is that?
  10. It's not this entire community that's out of touch, it's you. How do you expect these conversations to go? "Hey boss, it's stupid that I have to get a Master's while I'm still trying to figure out this jet." Noted. "IG, this uniform reg is pointless and a waste of time." Ok... "Sir, the promotion process seems like it could be handled better." You're telling me. What do you think any of them are going to do about it? Send it up the chain? It's not as if these issues are a secret. The average poster on this board is probably an O-3: senior enough to have a voice, but not senior enough to be heard by anyone in a position to really change anything. I can't speak for everyone, but the general feeling is that there's a huge disconnect between leadership and the guys flying the line. Ergo, most of us appreciate the fact that a few supposed senior leaders have dropped by the forum recently to offer their perspective and, in turn, listen to what the crew dogs have to say. That's about all your average O-3 can do: bitch about what needs to be changed when the venue is appropriate, and until then, do the best he can with the hand he's been dealt.
  11. I wouldn't get that deep into it. Negative transfer and whatnot. The VFR pattern in T-6s is pretty unique and if you try to teach it to yourself, you'll likely do it incorrectly. Not to worry though, there'll be plenty of time for pattern parties in the flight room.

    PCS Bingo

PCS'd about three weeks ago. Think I've hit 19 of the 24 squares above.
  13. As a brand new co-pirate currently inbound to SC, say reason?
  14. That said, we all know how reliable ground witnesses are...
  15. I should have added this - the sedan I own is worthless for towing and won't hold much itself. Appreciate any input.
  16. I'm an unmarried Lt about to PCS from KCBM to KCHS. I don't have much weight to move, so I figure I won't be making much, if anything, if I move it myself. That said, I'd also rather not deal with the government hiring people to break my stuff enroute, either. TMO has only been so helpful (you know how that goes), so I could use some old guy wisdom. Given that $ is a moot point, is it worth the hassle of doing the full DITY/PPM to avoid the hassle of having to track my stuff down later and fix whatever's broken? Most of it's boxed up and in storage downtown already - since that half of the battle's already done, I'm leaning toward just finishing the job on my own. This thread is fantastic, by the way.
  17. He goes by Tommy, actually.
  18. Heard about this T-1 incident last year. Just like you said, the elevator failed full up on takeoff. Luckily, it was two IPs flying rather than a student sortie. They were able to bank the aircraft enough to maintain a controllable airspeed and managed to make a safe landing out of it.
  19. For those of us who have no SA on the matter, say reason?
  20. Had my first Tusker a little while back. "2" on the review above.
