  1. Agreed up until the last point. Situation dependent, obviously, but if we’re getting hijacked and you have a clear shot, fvcking shoot ‘em.
  2. Check two posts up.
  3. That checks. Our new vol 1 is live and posted on epubs, but the word from leadership is that we’re not going to abide by it this semi due to guard/reserve pushback.
  4. I’ve seen the new C-17 v1. Some good changes, some bad, some that don’t make sense. On the positive side, you’ve got the elimination of some marginally useful training requirements like NDB approaches, as well as the ability of dudes at the A FTL to maintain their AR currency in the sim indefinitely. My biggest gripe is the increase in CBRNE training. Wearing the AERPS gear used to be required every 2-3 years and could be accomplished by throwing it on in the sim for five minutes. The new rule makes it a semiannual currency, which requires a full preflight, minimum 1 hr flight time, and at least one critical phase of flight to log the bean, and can only be accomplished in the sim every other time. The gear sucks, sure, but the real kick in the junk is that this is almost certainly a capability that won’t ever be used in real life, IMO. There simply is no plan or realistic way to decontaminate a C-17 that’s flown around in a CBRNE environment, which means the COCOM ordering each mission must be willing to take a $220M writeoff to get it done. In theory, I’m not against increased training and currency requirements at all, especially in areas where we’ve showed we need to spend some extra time. But in practice, this is almost certainly going to result in large swathes of the squadron going NMR, which not only has a negative impact on squadron usefulness and DOC effectiveness, but generates the need for more paperwork to flow through the offices, taking more and more guys away from flying to process and track it all, resulting in more guys going NMR. Bottom line at the bottom: we’re hanging on by a thread as it is, and asking for more, while a good idea at ground speed zero, isn’t going to work out in the real world. If readiness seppuku is what MAF leadership was going for, I think they’ll get their wish.
  5. Wingman of the year, must promote!
  6. Copy that it's a replacement in lieu of the current system, but the word "additional" in Rookie's post suggested to me that dudes would come out $6k ahead compared to the current status quo, rather than $2k like di1630 used in his math above. Also copy that we're splitting hairs on RUMINT that may never see the light of day or that Big Blue may change its mind again by tomorrow, so who knows?
  7. The original explanation from LookieRookie was that this was a $6k bump on top of what's currently offered rather than just a $2k boost. Not sure if that example included the current bonus or not, though.
  8. "According to the United States Air Force, an F-16C aircraft assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona diverted and attempted to land at the Lake Havasu Airport around 10:30 a.m. Officials say the aircraft departed the prepared surface and the pilot ejected. The pilot is in good condition and expected to be OK." Link to Article
  9. Not a lawyer either, but what you're getting at are the limits of exemptions to the exclusionary rule. Probably depends on whether or not the cop was acting in good faith. Ref: US vs. Leon (1984) Yes. Ref: common sense. You lied to the cops, which is against the law. Special Counsel investigations take time. This one has been going on for less than a year. For comparison's sake, here's a chart from a December 2017 538 article: Where is this presumption of guilt coming from, in your eyes? Also, I don't see how anyone can realistically argue there's a lack of probable cause at this point. There may not be fire , but damn if there isn't a hell of a lot of smoke.
  10. I would think at least O-5s, maybe O-6s. Know a guy (pilot) who got picked up to be a MAJCOM/CC’s exec as an O-5. Edit: to clarify, said dude was a graduated Sq/CC who put on O-6 soon after.
  11. Also, no more rank. Aren’t we all equals as Airpersons?
  12. I can already picture someone half-heartedly chanting this at a CC call
  13. How much do these Dyess shenanigans have to do with this guy being in charge?
  14. Affirm. Just curious, mostly.
  15. Thread revival: Any ideas on whether completion of a foreign military's FSO course would result in an S- prefix and associated safety stink?
  16. Agree with all of the above, but what's the incentive for Joe Plummer to vote for this kind of proposal? It's in the best interest, perceived or actual, of 99% of this country to maintain the status quo.
  17. I’ve seen the same - couldn’t use a VA on the first house I bought. Wound up going conventional and eventually refinancing to a VA later on.
  18. For whatever reason, I was under the impression that any contribution that went over the limit would be refunded in its entirety. Thanks for the tip. On topic: It sucks that they aren't maximizing the opportunity here, but is it really a strategically incorrect move from the big AF perspective? If they doubled flight pay to two grand a month, is that a big enough move to keep young Majors from bailing in any significant number? I don't think so. If you're going to concede the pay aspect of the equation to the airlines, I guess you might as well save your pennies where you can.
  19. Personally, I put in a percentage of both my base pay and flight pay in order to get as close as possible to maxing it out. Since it's obviously a percentage-based system rather than one that lets you choose an exact dollar amount, I've usually found that going with the closest whole number percentage of my base pay still leaves me a couple hundred dollars under the mark. I made a spreadsheet as an LT, which accounts for any raises/flight pay increases expected throughout the year, that allows me to tinker with the numbers every December in order to set my percentages for the next year. Usually I can get within five bucks or so of the limit that way. Might not make a huge difference even in the long run, but it's an easy part of my annual EOY financial review.
  20. For one more data point, my (AD) flight pay correctly updated to the new table at the start of the FY, but I haven't yet seen the jump from 2+ YAS to 6+ YAS that should have gone through in November. Seems like a total crapshoot right now.
  21. You know, I actually hadn’t considered that an extra year’s worth of information might be worth leaving a little money on the table. Good point.
  22. Any further details on that? Some of us younger bucks have to make a decision on opting into the BRS next week, and this kind of thing definitely carries a lot of weight...
