The real issue with a vaccine is that the disease doesn't cause enough suffering in the population to get people motivated. If COVID-19 left your children paralyzed and in an iron lung the discussion wouldn't be so concerned with #freedom. However, even in the early 20th century during the polio pandemic there was a strong anti-vax movement. Learned that from a Stuff You Should Know podcast while I was studying for my Gender Studies major.

A RIF in 2021 would be politically disastrous for whoever okays that plan I would think. Has the government furloughed during COVID? I started game planning in my mind what I'd do if they offered TERA in 2021. I'd be 2 years from 20 at that point and would lose 2 bonus payments. I gotta say, there aren't many great options.

Continuation doesn’t carry an ADSC. If you have an outstanding ADSC from a PCS or bonus you’ll still be on the hook for that. -
Yeah that check with how I was reading it. It’s going to be hard to find 22 days worth of something to do around here. Especially with the threat of ROM if I go anywhere.

My balance on my Sep LES was 54. I took 2 days in October. October LES shows 22 days use/lose. I assume those 22 were days earned but not used in FY18? Based on how I read that lawyered up special accrual memo you’d only get to carry use/lose that was listed on your September LES up to 120. Use/lose on the October LES has to be used in FY21. Seems like since leave really isn’t happening right now they’d extend that use/lose rule. Like I want to take 22 days off and stay in this miserable town.

What are squadrons allowing for travel for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year? Also, my September 2020 LES had zero use/lose but October had 22 days use/lose. Under the special accrual rules it doesn't seem like I'll be able to carry those 22 over since they're FY2021 use/lose. Does that check? Also, is anyone really taking leave?

I will completely give Trump credit for winding these wars down. Here’s an example where Congress and the defense industrial complex are actually being war-checked by the President. I’d rather the numbers be no more than a marine detachment at the embassy and a few high level defense liasons but I’ll take what I can get.

Corollary: When I was an O-1/2 I never would have called an O-4/5 by first name for any reason while in uniform. That is no longer the standard among young pilots I’ve noticed. I’d never correct anyone on it, but I do think that it potentially can be an issue when it comes time to dole out discipline for whatever reason. Good thing I’m not a commander so it’s never really an issue. I rarely would use first names with my fellow NCO aircrew either. I always figured they earned their title of Staff/Tech/Master Sergeant. But if they preferred a first name I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Default to the military courtesy till you know you can alter it. As with all things, a little SA goes a long way.

The only people I’ve seen that didn’t change their separation plans were ones with a reserve job lined up down the hall. And that was because they had a sim job across the street lined up. I don’t believe for a second that rated retention is the same in 2020 as it was in 2019.
