  1. The all-volunteer military has resulted in never-ending conflict. The price of war is low. The eternal trickle of military involvement feeds the military-industrial complex, which is chairman-ed by retired generals mostly who know best how to manipulate the machine into industrial profit. The country must devise some form of civic service. Otherwise we will continue to have elected leaders send our volunteer men and women to die in fights where the largest military force in the world has no business fighting.
  2. Somehow this actually makes complete sense that the AF would do this. Ugh.
  3. Why not just choose the next whole number percentage higher (21% vs 20%)? In December if your election takes you over the limit they only withhold the amount to take you exactly to the limit. Buy the kids’ Christmas presents with the bigger paycheck that month.
  4. Yes. And a spousal Roth IRA. Have been doing this since I was a senior Capt and could afford it.
  5. Since your example gets out of the military at 10 years it’s not a fair comparison because you haven’t given up a pension at all. You never qualified. You need to run those numbers out to 20 years of service and compare the 50% pension payout to the 40% payout plus matching TSP until the end of life (say 85 years old).
  6. Are AFRC white jet pilots under AETC for ADCON/OPCON or does AFRC own them? New AETC/CC may change things, but I thought the previous CC had AETC owned IPs fenced off from deployments.
  7. Doesn’t Standard have an annual premium?
  8. Aaaaaaand it’s gone
  9. Are you saying that deployed squadrons are running green dot programs down range?
  10. Jeeeezus.....but at least we know where you stand. 1) BAH should be the same. Increase all rates to th w/dependent amounts and be done with it. 2) BAH has always been this way. Comparing to other jobs is irrelevant. Name another job that forces fathers to go and die in their country’s wars. Incentive pays to keep fathers (and mothers) in the fight longer. Otherwise we are just sending our single men (and women) to die. Yes, I realize war isn’t the same nowadays. 3) BAH is pennies. That Congress is willing to screw with pennies while billions are wasted elsewhere under corrupt circumstances is telling. 4) You can quit the line of BS that married don’t carry their weight. Not sure what your life and professional experience has been but with some exceptions I’m willing to bet that most married men and women do their equal share. If you have experienced otherwise I’m sorry. But like I said before there are enough times where I’ve covered for singles at high personal cost that I basically don’t agree with your complaint.
  11. It's one thing as a single guy to volunteer to take bad deals so married people can be home for life events, it's another thing when the scheduler puts you on the bad deal without asking because "it doesn't matter if you miss Thanksgiving/Christmas/holiday/weekends because you're single, so you're on the trip/deployment/alert" This is true. This should never be a scheduler’s call. In my case (married, father of 4) I was waiting to go to training for my 365—sent to Al Udeid for a month to cover for a single female in the squadron who had some family issues going on. DO gave me that bit of news. Thanks for nothing Libya. Anyway, I’ve covered for single guys plenty. Just as I’m sure they’ve covered for me. It goes both ways.
  12. I think that’s the scale available on dfas.mil
  13. Geez lots of opportunities to Q3 that boldface novel
  14. Are they staying current through sims?
  15. Dang. Did IOT&E crews go through initial yet?
  16. The general feeling I get is that the City of San Francisco is more concerned that an illegal immigrant not be subjected to immigration laws than the fact that an innocent person was shot to death by someone who had no right to be in the country. They’re more concerned about their holy status as a “sanctuary” than hey are over the death of this woman. Nothing could be more political.
  17. Hmm. In my UPT class the guy who was a CFI regional pilot practically slept thru Tweets and coasted in T-1s to DG. Take a guy with airmanship and teach him the military way and I think he’ll be fine. The test subjects are holders of aviation degrees and are CFIs, so the pool of prospects is pretty shallow anyway.
  18. Retirees returning to AD are exempt from involuntary deployment Bonus takers are chum.
  19. Does a dishonorable discharge have to be reported on job applications like a felony conviction would? Does the civilian world even know or care what it takes to get a dishonorable discharge?
  20. “Missing key parts....”.
  21. No government bureaucracy wishes to downsize in order to streamline. It goes against the very nature of the bureaucracy.
  22. That fault lies also with your WG/CC
  23. Have you called billeting to see if they even have TLFs with enough rooms? I’m at PIT now and didn’t bother with billeting at all. Straight to my PIT pad. My guess is that they will give you whatever TLF they have available at the time and if they have any available they won’t be giving you a Non-A. Why not just move your family into your final location? You will still draw BAH from your losing unit till you inprocess your gaining unit. Add that to you $60/day and you can get a nice apartment or PIT pad.
