Impossible when your leaders are raised in Washington, D.C., instead of Sparta.

The guy went to TPS.

so to speak as one might say; said a certain way, even though the words are not exactly accurate. John helps me with my taxes. He's my accountant, so to speak. I just love my little poodle. she's my baby, so to speak. See also: speak McGraw-Hill Dictionary of American Idioms and Phrasal Verbs. © 2002 by The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. Just start using it in the dictionary way. Watch leadership head explode.

For me, this incident (and others) demonstrates that the USAF (well, AMC at least) is really riding the edge of a wave of inexperience in the cockpit. Most flight departments wouldn't send their crews to do what the USAF does with the experience level the USAF operates with. It's a testament to our professionalism and attention to detail that we do it safely almost every day of the year. Major props for coming onto this forum. I noticed as I left my previous airframe that our squadron really didn't want to talk about the stuff we screwed up (and well all screwed up stuff in varying degrees) in order to save face or whatever. If nothing else, this is a good reminder that we're all one misplaced switch away from disaster (or potential disaster). Good job on saving the crew, the jet, and the pax.

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13

Nobody wants their blood money. They should send their own men to die in Syria if that's what they want. The middle east is like a bipolar ex wife. -
?s on ADSC (Active Duty Service Commitment)
Homestar replied to FreudianSlip's topic in General Discussion
Not sure about TX (if by that you mean you were once an F-16 pilot then flew T-6s then have to get a new Init Qual in the F-16) but crossflow (Phoenix, G-V, 89th, etc) are separate from the exclusion found in the note. Further on in the note it says: c. Rated officers who crossflow/retrain into another rated career field (e.g., an air battle manager who crossflows/retrains as a navigator or manned or unmanned pilot), crossflow/retrain to a different weapons system (basic qualification) or aircraft airframe will incur the full ADSC for that training even if that ADSC extends beyond the officer’s 6th or 10th year of rated service I bet the TX course would be considered Init or Re qual and if accomplished in year 8 of your UPT ADSC you should not have to go past 10 years. I'd love to see the look on the face of the Amn when the question is asked. -
?s on ADSC (Active Duty Service Commitment)
Homestar replied to FreudianSlip's topic in General Discussion
I don't know what a R.O.A.D. type is, but that note specifically refers to a situation where you may attend IP upgrade at year 9 of the UPT ADSC and not have to serve any commitment past year 10 of the UPT ADSC. Once you're past year 10, normal ADSC rules apply which may push you past 20 if applicable. -
...but all signs point to YES

I'll second the Churchill war rooms & bunker ... also, some Tower beefeaters often moonlight as Jack The Ripper tour guides if you're interested in Jack the Ripper history.

Wait.... There's an instruction that governs delay codes? Geez.

Homestar replied to Godfather's topic in General Discussion
I'm pretty sure it was in the uni reg for OCPs, just that nobody went to the trouble of wearing the wings. the unit I was in actually had us putting regular desert name tags with badges on the shoulder....it looked lousy. -
Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13

In fairness, John McCain seems more eager to get into a war in Syria than Obama. I'm still waiting for a good argument from the war-hawks in Congress as to why Arabs killing Arabs in Arab countries is my problem. -
I love how the picture features a helicopter pilot in an article about fighter pilot retention. That's how you know AOL put some thought into that piece.
-
I guess my point is that the fighter community should be able to develop it's own culture based on the problems they are forced to confront in war. I didn't want any part of that culture as a pilot by personal choice, but I wouldn't force them to conform to my idea of what a culture should be.
-
The American public is demanding that military culture conform to modern corporate standards with regard to sexism. Okay. What the American public will get is a fighter (or Ranger, or S.E.A.L. or specops) culture that conforms to modern corporate standards across the board. Not too many tie wearing American businessmen willing to strap on a jet and fly into the fire, so I give our military one more generation before we're unable to effectively fight a real war (I'm talking real war, not this modern bs we're doing in Afg) and completely lose the warrior's edge.

Apparently societal acceptance and legality of various expressions of [edit to add: consensual) human sexuality can and do change. The gay marriage lobby simply had the best organized end executed lobby.
-
Polygamists need to hire a more trendy lobby firm in D.C. It makes no sense to me to keep plural marriage illegal when society at large has decided that marriage between one man and one woman is so 20th century.
-
Of course it's about money. And job satisfaction. I wouldn't do this job for free. Once either the money or the job satisfaction no longer meets my needs I will depart. And nobody in the Air Force will miss me, and that's okay.
-
Glad they made it out okay. That picture of the two under canopy was a great pic.
-
Perhaps some of the issues will be satisfied by the "home of record" process the military has. So, if one half of a gay marriage dies then the state with "home of record" would deal will issues related to the marriage. Assuming, of course, that the home of record is the state which conducted the gay marriage.

Report Slams Military's Recent Camouflage Uniforms

That picture is a perfect metaphor for the entire advising effort in Afghanistan. -
I have never once heard this as a reason for a Palace Chase package. Few pilots have the opportunity to leave active duty before their majors board meets anyway due to the 10 year ADSC.
-
I thought 365s required at least 1 year on station? Average CONUS PCS only incurs a 2 year commitment, so they'd have to time it perfectly.
