I like the idea of funding the overseas contingency fund with income taxes. It would never pass our weak-ass Congress. I don’t study this stuff anymore to be anything close to an expert, but modern monetary theory believes that a country cannot default on debt held in its own national currency. As long as inflation is under control you can print as much money as you need. When inflation creeps up you raise taxes to restrict the money supply. It will be interesting to see if that’s true in the coming decades. -
Really? You think “this generation” is going to refuse to follow a vaccine order after following all the other orders they’ve received to this point? My guess is that the military will prioritize war fighters and overseas members first, so it will be a year or two for the nonners to have to worry about it. My hope is that we develop an annual COVID vaccine that we take with our flu shot each year. And in a year or two you’ll think about it as much as you think about your flu shot. That is, not a lot. Man it pisses me off when “my generation” shits on “that generation” and questions their commitment to their service and craft. Order them to do a thing and they’ll do it. Punish those who disobey and make accommodation for those who need accommodation. I’m not going to force some 7th Day Adventist to take a vaccine if it violates their religion. Want a religious exemption? Join the JW or 7DA.

I agree with you generally, but I can also see the other side of the argument, which is: voting is more important than most everything else that requires ID so barriers to voting should be lower. In other words, you should have to meet a high bar to keep someone from casting a vote, and in some cases voter ID laws smell like Jim Crow. Do I agree? Not really, but I get what they’re saying.

That’s awesome. I prefer long distance endurance running which, strangely enough, is way less hard on my body than training for the damn 1.5 mi time trial.

I think the issue is that most of the country believes that the lack of confidence is misplaced due to the President of the United States pushing a false narrative. Unless the President changes the narrative that 70% number will never change. Actual voter fraud and inconsistencies are secondary to the narrative Trump is pushing.

This is true. Had my VO2 Max measured a couple years ago while I was in the middle of IM training and was about average for my age. Best fitness of my life and could never break sub 10:15 on the run. Needed more speed training. Some people are just strong or fast or both.

I’m a 4 time full Ironman finisher and I have a 2-3 month build to the PT test too. Still can’t max the run and I’m 40+.

VO2 max is best measured connected to a mask while running a full out run on a treadmill. Maybe you’re thinking about O2 blood saturation?
