No wait, why would you get on the bus? If there is just a guy driving a bus, what is he going to do if you just turn and walk away?

Anyone know someone doing the Iraqi T-6 IP 365s ?

5 generals mishandled $87M, comptroller says

Why is that interesting? -
I would agree with your mentor. I was late rated. I've had this conversation a lot. In terms of credibility, he is talking IP in an MWS. You will be an O-4 with little to no credibility and looking at needing to go to school (difficult) or staff (if you plan to make the USAF a career beyond O-4) if you have too few years between now and your PRF. I am talking traditional career paths here. So, if your goal is to fly to 20, like some other threads on here discuss, then you will have no problem either way. If you want to be a squadron commander with some time in the airplane and hands that go with that time, then he is right (again depending on how many years you have to go). You can read the threads on here about people like the former Wing/CC at Pope who was not good in the airplane, not good out of the airplane and all that finally caught up with him. Learjetter is right with his analysis below. I am assuming that your mentor knows your timeline and is looking at that based on his comments. If he isn't then there is more flexibility than he is telling you. Are you currently in UPT? Remember that promotion boards to O-4 happen much sooner than they used to so factor that in and make an informed decision.

If he just retired then he could still be listed...

Army (Warrant Officer) to ANG transfer
Herk Driver replied to a topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Go to the e-pubs website and check out AFI 36-2107. The 10 year commitment is for Undergraduate Pilot Training specifically. Not sure how the AF classifies the fixed-wing transition course, but other Advanced Fying Training courses are a 3 year commitment. If you can get to https://etca.randolph.af.mil (must be .mil) then you can look up the specific course and get the no-kidding answer there. -
Not as far as I know...it is just a different career path.

What he said was, 1) Moosepileit said the C-17 SIB was on AFSAS 2) Chuck 17 asked which C-17 incident it was 3) I answered in the affirmative that it was the one he indicated (haven't read the report yet so I'm not privy to anything other than what has been in the news) 4) You told me to be be careful since the AIB wasn't out yet. 5) Crew Report asked if saying a specific SIB was posted on AFSAS was now somehow privileged information. Here in the news and here in the news... I think you misunderstood much more than what Crew Report asked. No one believes Baseops to be AFSAS and no information that is priviledged or otherwise protected, AIB complete or not, has been posted in this thread. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I can't put the slide here and you wouldn't want to see it anyway, since it's .ppt, but AMC/A1 does a brief at ATA each year. This one is several years old, but it shows ~20% being Selects from the O-4 promotion board with an additional ~15% from DT nominated candidates. I'm sure that number is not 100% constant year to year, but somewhere between 35-40% is fairly accurate. The SDE numbers they put forth are ~15% (selects) from the O-5 board with only ~5% from DT nominated candidates. Of course, this is also the brief where they rack and stack Air Staff higher than Joint-other, which I think they have changed there philosophy on in recent years.

The point many are missing, and it has been said, is that this is AFSC specific. 181 for a short tour is actually a current exception to policy that dates back to 2002/2003, IIRC. But, I can tell you there are many people that are doing 179's that are being kept here by CC's for the magic two weeks. A stroke of a pen and you can be held for 2 weeks, no big deal. Do away with the ETP and that 179 becomes 194 w/o any consideration for what they have just done. I know a location where the boss is getting considerable pressure to end the tactic because he is pushing everyone to/ over 181. There is benefit to having a system that identifies where it is broken and tries to fix itself. W/o that ETP, no one would give two cents what this guy is doing or why he is doing it. Seriously, if you don't want a 365, volunteer for one of the good deal 179's /possible short tours.

My $.02. OK, a simple question for you...Can you afford renting or buying at your next PCS location, if you cannot sell or rent the house you bought at your last PDS? If you can, then go for it; if you can't, then there's a potential problem with your argument. I think the overall point here is that when you own, you own. You don't get to call the landlord when a pipe bursts while you are gone. You get to call a plumber or a friend and that will cost you money not your landlord. Those issues are now yours to deal with/pay for. You owe the taxes, your owe the bank, you have to get the lawn cut - when you can't rent or are between renters. You get to worry about who you are renting to and if they trash your house when they leave. That could mean keepign the deposit. That could mean taking a guy to court to recover your expenses. Some rental markets will allow you to pay your mortgage and taxes and maybe make a little on the top; some will not and you will lose money. I know a guy that bought in FL at the top of the market. He is upside down, has PCS'd and has had a lengthy period of time with no renters, currently he has renters that don't come close to covering the mortgage, much less any repairs or other expenses. There is no one size fits all answer to what you are asking, but your view above is very simplistic. In your example, $48K to a landlord or about 80% (or more) of that to interest, fees, closing costs, etc and maybe squeeze out a profit or break even or make a tidy sum in an above average market. It really depends on who you want to "give" your money to and how much risk you can handle.

Really like Southwest and their no bag fees... Edit: Just read the CNN article. Unbelieveable (the reason the grandfather was traveling to begin with, that is)...not up to speed on CO and their death penalty cases...too bad this guy didn't do this in TX. I know what would happen there.

Children...there is a Gun Talk thread somewhere on these forums, IIRC.

Are you moving from one privatized residence to another? Note 7 seems to indicate that DLA is not payable. However, from what this section says, it looks like you should be getting the partial DA. Why have you not gotten your supervisor, first sgt. or commander involved in this?

I had Mx in my squadron until the '02-'03 timeframe. That was USAFE.
-
Good thing on the surface. We'll see how it works out for deployed folks. In most squadrons, the Sq/CC would already know that an assignment was loaded, at least if he is doing his job and is in contact with AFPC.

Really? You like broad brush statements, huh?

I had a similar situation over a cell phone. It was through Alltel and was a number from Fayetteville, NC. I called and talked with them. I was careful about what I told them about myself. Ultimately, I got the last 4 of the SSAN of the person they were after. Once I told them it wasn't me they were off to the next guy with the same name on their address list. That was more than 4 years ago. Hell, maybe they've filed suit, I don't know. I've moved since then, but they seemed content to continue profiling their address list for military that had ever lived in/near Fayetteville, NC. That alone should give them plenty of time to continue looking for this guy.

I thought both Pardo's and Aman's planes were hit in a bombing run. Aman just happened to be hit in a fuel tank and so he couldn't make the tanker so instead of let him bailout over bad guy land, Pardo pushed him to less bad guy land. Is there more to the story? 2 on the hover checks. Is it just that sh!t happens when doing this so doing it over water is not real smart?

Almost missed it before the end of the day. Happy New Year everyone!!

Write to the Military Records archiveand see what you would need to provide to try and get a copy of his record. Probably would be interesting to see if they still have it.
