I guess the first question is do you want to PCS? Others can give you deal with PIT and ADSC but the bottom line is that you need enough retainability for the assignment. Your typical CONUS to CONUS PCS ADSC is 24 months. If you have less than that and do not want the assignment then you can decline on the PCS RIP that you get. That is not to say that the AF cannot force you to take the assignment by waiving the PCS ADSC or a limited number of other options, IIRC. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

I don't know that I have faith in the AF to manage this correctly, either. But the sky is not falling because of this choice. I am a late rated guy, with more than two different AFSCs. I was nearly 7 years time in the AF by the time I got to my first flying unit. I was not a CAF guy and honestly probably would have had progression issues at that point in my career, if I had been. There were some issues...but I have had awesome opportunities along the way, including leading Airmen as a commander twice and both times in combat. I continue to have the opportunity to fly at this point in my career and will probably be able to fly until I retire. It has been a great ride. The only constant is that, no matter what Chang spews, the AF gets rated policy wrong more times than not. All of the current fixes will make a dent. None of them will fix the problems alone. They probably won't fix it when all implemented together. When in doubt, refer back to how the AF doesn't get it right most of the time.

Yep, you're right they will all be Capts with 7 years time in service that get selected and will be a Major-select or Maj by the time they get to their MDS. Get ing real...there will be a few from multiple different year groups more than likely and some will have the problem you propose. Others will not. I don't see this as a grand fix and I don't have a dog in this fight as I enter the twilight of a mediocre career, but the sky is not falling (yet) when it comes to this course of action. We've seen some of this before...it was not all a shit show then and odds are it won't be now.

Good point and I don't know the answer but I can tell you that AFRC is having trouble filling cockpits right now as well.

I do know that without getting something changed that you have to travel in your DEROS month...not one day before or after. You can get it curtailed by your CC. As far as HHGs, I shipped mine almost 2 months ahead of leaving so they were already at the destination when I arrived. We used TMO furnishings for the last 45-60 days. I don't think you will have a problem on the HHG side of things. Honestly don't know about the family part...

Agree with above. My info may be dated but the API swim (USN) used to be a mile. You could do the crawl or sidestroke. If you can't do it then you will wash back and they will get you through the swim. It is not that difficult...

Not sure what you mean by kicked down to the ANG. This was signed by the AFRC CC. Only him. I don't think NGB has any reason or interest in signing a similar memo but who knows.

Again, not everyone could. It changes every year. Some people were never eligible for the 9 year bonus, some never eligible for the 20/25 YAS bonus. YMMV.

I think he is talking some late to rate guys that were never eligible for a bonus.

Some of the conventional wisdom out there is that Erdogan staged this "coup" in order to consolidate power and purge the military and judiciary. In the modern era, under constitutional mandate given it from Ataturk, the Turkish military has executed multiple coups when the government moved away from its secular roots. In those, the military held the PM, took over media and was successful. None of that happened here. Time will tell. This was either a wag the dog moment or a vast departure from previous successful military coups.
