  2. Quite contrary. I appreciate the amount of work that most FAIPs put into the pilot production process. That being said, I have no respect for people who would FAIP for the sole reason of trying to pad an airline resume. Simply a matter of opinion, and mine is that the AF has a combat requirement to fulfill. Cheers.
  3. Strictly my opinion, but if you FAIP with the intention of being marketable to airline...fvck you. I know we are trying to generate pilots, but we’re not trying to make airline pilots. I’m with the other AFSOC brains here...go out and cut your teeth while the war is still hot. After you’ve seen you fair share of shit and combat has lost luster, take your white jet tour. As an aside, I have to seriously question the word of a guy who says that his FAIP tour developed a greater sense of airmanship than a combat deployment to Afghanistan in a barrel-roll capable King Air.

  7. It was a comparison of how trivial the argument is. As I stated before, I’m clearly in the minority here. If someone offered me an enrichment ride on day one of the new procedures I would gladly accept. I’m not a company man, but I do love flying so thank goodness there are several types of us out there.   8. I appreciate the thought put into the posts, but my opinion hasn't changed. It's third-hand information, but I don't think the OBOGS issue is related to contamination but more likely concentrations and blood reaction. That being said, I would never assume that you have a vote in anything you do...especially while on a bike. The only vote you have there is the decision to saddle up or not. I have friends without limbs and have passed too many people under white sheets that never got a vote.
  9. I’ve taken notes and maintain my position. We all have our own ideas of what unnecessary risk is and this, TO ME, is not it. People will bitch about OBOGS or the lack of an external CFS jettison and then turn right around and ride a motorcycle home during rush hour. I’m OK with being in the minority here.
  10. I’m already at Laughlin, dual qual sounds great as long as my beans will be prorated. None of the points made have changed my mind. If I was an IP in T-6 land this would be a non-issue for me. Flew a single engine turboprop without ejection seats, with a 10 minute supply of emergency oxygen and no smoke goggles well outside of glide from any suitable landing site and somehow still managed just fine. Sure, the possibility of some anomalous in-flight breakup of a T-6 at high altitude is statistically possible...but how likely? Same goes for smoke and fumes event incidents given the amount of daily flying that occurs. Not saying things can’t happen but the pervasive unwillingness to fly is almost comical. Go spend some time with Army rotary wing, I’m sure that group will empathize.
  11. There I was, in the shit, as a UPT student. End of story. I am just reading a lot of complaints about an issue that seems pretty minor. Plenty of other airplanes out there fly pressurized without the required wear of a mask for the purpose of supplemental oxygen. I hear plenty of stories about guys flying with their mask down in the T-6...why now is there an uproar? If you wear your mask for CFS protection and that’s the sole reason, there’s a fix for that. There are a ton of risky things involved with aviation but breathing cockpit air with an emergency oxygen reserve just doesn’t seem to be one of those to me.
  12. Ground aborting for what? If the guys flying air races or Extra 300s don’t need supplemental oxygen, I’m fairly certain the average T-6 sortie doesn’t either. Sack up.
  13. While not as nice the Emerald Coast, I’m enjoying my time at Laughlin. I know everybody is different but I just find it comical that the military has found a way to make flying explosive-laden fast jets less appealing than hauling around 200 selfish individuals in a slower metal tube. Edit: yes, I volunteered to go to DLF.

  18. I did an assumption from a family member. Would not recommend for the following reasons: took 6x longer than if we would have just acquired a new mortgage, it costs the same in the end and dealing with BoA was a nightmare. Won’t go into specifics, but in the long run we didn’t save time or money and were locked into a higher interest rate than we PROBABLY could have otherwise qualified for. It might be worthwhile for you, though, if the lien holder allows assumptions (not all do) and the equity you will instantly generate is offset by all other factors.
  19. I ordered a new leather name tag for my jacket from Wings and Things a few weeks ago. Quality is great and the turn around was under a week.
  20. I have no qualms with pulling shooters from other platforms to stand this program up. My beef is the authors claim that his MC-12 experience gives him the cred to be a first-in flight lead/IP for this program.

Full disclosure, I usually don't write a ton of reviews online but Trident is offering me a Starbucks gift card to "...honestly review your experience with us on baseops (both the good and ugly)." My wife and I decided to do some house hunting in our last half of PIT so we took the drive to Del Rio to scope the market. We looked at a ton of places and had it narrowed within a few days. After making the requisite offers and being accepted, we had a decision to make with financing. We have a home in Navarre and the mortgage was sold-off to Bank of America. For this reason, we initially contacted Navy Fed. The closing estimate they provided was extremely high and chock full of bullshit fees that we didn't want to pay. From here, we had recommendations from our realtor but secretly had Trident in the back of our minds (gathered some VA IRRRL numbers a while ago). I called Marty and explained my desire to minimize closing costs while maintaining a decent rate. He provided several options for me and after gathering the necessary information, terminated the call. Jumping forward, I called Marty back to confirm numbers (which he did) and was passed to Elena for processing/closing. Working with Elena was very easy. The whole process was fairly hands-off from a buyer's perspective. We had some small hiccups that were no-drama (e.g., AFPC puts Fairchild AFB as the TDY location for PIT causing underwriter to require doc explaining) but it was easily handled. Although the process went smooth, my only complaint revolved around closing. We gave Trident less than a month to work closing and Thanksgiving was in that window so I cannot blast them for this, but it was slightly disappointing. We set a NLT closing date but I called to see if we could move it up from a Monday to the preceding Friday. I received a favorable response on this but we ended up missing the revised closing date. Apparently Elena didn't realize that an additional review of the docs by some legal jabroni was required which caused us to miss the revised deadline. This made us spend a few more nights in a shitty hotel with our cars loaded full of sensitive personal effects and documents but it was made up for at closing because we got a lower rate than initially quoted AND we walked away being paid $1,000 in closing. I would wager that very few people walk away from closing being handed a check rather than writing one. All-in-all, the rate was competitive and the lender credit was equally as competitive. Our intent was to minimize closing costs via maximizing lender credit but without chomping down on an abnormally high rate. Marty and his team at Trident were able to do this and I write this from a plush desert home with no regrets. BL: we used Trident to purchase our home in Del Rio. Made contact with Marty, worked with Elena -- would do it again.

  24. Thread revival...anybody know if there is any guidance that prevents the wear of a safe-to-fly Massif in AETC/T-38 aircraft? I have been issued two of them in AFSOC but have never seen a green version being worn with a bag despite their existence. Cheers
