It’s not a shitty personal jab. I’m glad you’ve gained clarity after service. You didn’t think it was worth it, and that’s fine. In the same spirit, I think it’s better for the service that you moved on. I haven’t discredited what you did, nor was I being sarcastic about the appreciation. That being said: the institution doesn’t need people staying beyond UPT ADSC when they are clearly unhappy with their lot in life. Bring on the downvotes folks. You know the rules when you go to UPT…nobody’s fault but your own if you get dealt a subpar hand. Not everybody gets their #1, and we can’t all be stationed at some tropical island in some flying club.

Separation and retirement orders in 2024 after certain dates won’t be approved due to a lack of available funds. I think the dates are 1 Jan and 1 Apr respectively.

I think most dudes shit talk it because they haven’t actually done it. They’ve heard about it from their buddies friends sisters uncle and perpetuate lies. It’s a daily grind, but a lot of the MWS ancillaries simply don’t exist. There is no pre-deployment WSMR/NAWS/WSEP trip…no flag to participate in…nothing. No thanks, I have standards. Really though…the 757 has an RMI and ADF pointer. CRT ADI, HSI, and engine stack. Otherwise analog everything else. Unless it’s an H3, it’s at least 2 generations ahead.

Asking for a friend…what’s an RMI? I’ve also heard that people used to fly things called NDB approaches but I can’t find anything in my 787 company manual. /s

Plenty of thankless jobs out there, but that’s not an excuse to not know what the 401 is as a SARM. I think it is akin to a pilot not knowing what the 202 is, but maybe I have just set my expectations too high.

Some of those folks definitely put the Special in AFSOC. We had a terrible SARM troop one deployment. After several counseling sessions, I directed the individual to reread the RTM and sections of the 401. I’ve never seen somebody stare so blankly in my life.

Watching Top Gun Maverick is a suitable replacement for step-down training. We’re all cleared to 300’ and lower.
