US flags at half-mast for Nelson Mandela--thoughts?
Masshole replied to HeloDude's topic in Squadron Bar
No one who knows anything about South Africa argues that Apartheid was beneficial and that some sort of economic malaise can be attributed to its removal. In fact, it experienced huge economic gains until the financial crisis, taking its place as the 'S' in BRICS. This is an argument along the same lines as we should nuke the Middle East, or adopt anarchy. -
US flags at half-mast for Nelson Mandela--thoughts?

Unbelievable sources. From the first one, "Under white rule, blacks in South Africa enjoyed better living conditions than any other African country where blacks kill each other in tribal warfare." Wrong empirically and qualitatively. My toilet paper is more reliable than that site. -
US flags at half-mast for Nelson Mandela--thoughts?

Why is it a problem to honor Nelson Mandela? Was it OK for John Paul II? -
In all seriousness, this is a great post. Your undergraduate education is what you make of it, whether it is Nowhere State University or Harvard. Yes, the top schools will grant you more opportunities through networking, but it is on the student to pull the information and learn. The AFA's mission is to produce officers for the Air Force, so judging the strength of its academics on the amount of research their students do is silly. They're not in the business of employing students to research assignments. On the same note, thinking the number of Rhodes Scholars produced by an institution is a sole indicator of the university's academics is equally as folly. Comparing USAFA to an Ivy League school or any civilian institution is like comparing a running back to a corner back. Completely different aspects. Regardless, it's a good commissioning source and provides a very solid education.

We only have 41 Rhodes Scholars, so by the logic executed in this thread we're not much better than USAFA, right?

China creates new air defense zone in East China Sea
Masshole replied to PasserOGas's topic in General Discussion
The Chinese are dealing with a lot of domestic issues at home and needed to draw attention from it. We flew bombers through the ADIZ and they did nothing against it, even though they claim to have tracked them the whole way. To prevent themselves from looking like douchetards, they deploy their one and only carrier group. -
I thought all stormtroopers were clones of Jimmy Smits, or is that just the portrait painted by the Empire to show a properly integrated, average-looking force?

Just asserting their strength in immediate territories. They get more attention for their naval 'area denial' tech development. -
I am honestly confused by this. Isn't training them properly and sending them to their jobs once competent the best way to integrate them into combat roles? I feel it is going to cause more of a stir being so public about it because you are drawing that much more attention to it. What are you going to do about attractive women in combat? Make everyone wear a mask until they're "part of the team" and then allow then to remove it? Not make a big deal out of it. Just let it happen. LMAO. So terrible jokes are a reason to pour money into researching how people react to stories about attractive/average women in military-related media stories? I cannot think of anything more detrimental to our progress and integration into the military than being so superficial and concerned about appearance. These women are not models flown out to remote locations for a PR campaign, they're military personnel doing their job. If Halle Berry fireman-carried a wounded soldier all the way back to base, would they select a picture of the average looking woman standing in the background instead? This makes no sense to me. It might have something to do with fishing through pictures worrying whether or not the woman you want to display in your story is too attractive.

These guys started acting like this immediately after poking his finger through the toilet paper.

It is very degrading. To everyone. How offensive is it to be part of a group that seemingly needs protection and can only succeed by toppling the "white male club?" I would like to think that my efforts and skills are what gets me to the place I want to be, not some outside force that feels the military is too homogeneous. Will I have to go through my career wondering if I got awarded or promoted because I'm an Asian female and there are few of us in the services? Or can I take pride in the fact that I dedicate myself 100% to my job?

Is this a social experiment to find racism?
Masshole replied to Catbox's topic in General Discussion
This racism and sexism stuff needs to stop. I do not know how anyone has the time to do their job while simultaneously waging war against every stupid joke that may or may not be done in poor taste. How does anyone maintain their sanity taking offense to bad caricature or sexual innuendos? My guess is these people have never experienced hate or discrimination. Do not get me wrong, racism and sexism are still alive but not nearly as pervasive as people want to believe. Just recently at a school-sponsored event some guy refused to shake my "nigger hand" (I am Asian so I am confused as anyone). That is an example of what is hateful, not some blonde pin-up on the side of an airplane or a Looney Toons character advertising tacos. -
No rust, but the bore probably needs to be cleaned. I do not think my grandfather ever cleaned it and he kept it as an indoor showpiece for awhile before it went to the attic. I do not think I or anyone I know has the skill set to do a restoration, so I think we will probably just preserve the original patina.

What is the best way to clean a 100-year-old rifle? It's a Remington rolling block rifle that was used in WW1 by the Royal Navy.

A lot of people here have clearly never acted a day in their life. You all don't understand the plight of the performer! And let's not act like Tom Cruise doesn't know what it's like to be in the military. He was in Top Gun and Jack Reacher...

I did not see this thread before I put my picture up in the Squadron Bar, but I will repost the picture of the missing man formation flown with B-25s to honor these men:

I had the opportunity to attend the ceremony at Wright-Patterson AFB this afternoon. It was a huge privilege to be in the company of such great men.

I have spent much time in Southeast Asia, mostly in Thailand. I never have a good experience in Cambodia. The people are rude and it is disgusting outside the tourist areas. Maybe you have a much better experience being a tourist of a different demographic, I do not know. I do know that there are many other countries I would rather go than Cambodia, and that you should never travel North in Cambodia.

Cambodia is a pile of shit, and this is coming from someone who grew up in Nepal/South China. Having come to the United States I would never go anywhere else. There is no reason to give up this citizenship.

All they need to do is sell a few of the $10,000 bronze statues of himself and they're back in business. https://rightstuffstore.com/showitem.php?item_id=67

Send him the picture of Sam Shepard from The Right Stuff to autograph... ...and sell it to the Vegas pawn shop for $200. Win/Win.
