My entire point was if for some reason you cannot become a pilot (fighter or otherwise) it’s prudent to have a backup career you can stand doing. What happens if you become a pilot and have a life altering medical issue that prevents you from flying for the military or airlines? I know far more young fighter dudes that will never fly again than I would have thought possible. A lot of things need to fall into place for you to make it as a pilot. Which is why I would advise you to pursue a degree you can use.

If your plan B is to go to the majors then why not get an aviation degree and start building those hours?

What will get you a better paying job in the civilian world, BS or BA? When you get Med DQ’d, wash out, etc. what will you have to fall back on? Pick the plan B you can stomach for the rest of your life and/or that pays well.

The blockade of a country by two countries that surround it and the ocean next to it usually negatively impacts said country. I’m not saying I disagree with the blockade entirely, but it definitely doesn’t help the civilians trying to survive in Gaza. I’ve got to say, as a generally conservative individual, every time you wade into a political/philosophical discussion I can’t help but imagine you as Billy Madison talking about the puppy that lost his way. You are the Omar/Tlaib of the right on BO, and every time you post something with zero critical thought that was spewed by Fox News, this is the reaction from the rest of the conservatives. Do we have a right to restrain Israel? If I’m Israel and an American says that to me I’d highlight the hypocrisy of that based on America’s post 9/11 actions. Israel currently has more public support than possibly anytime in history. If they, or we, can prove Iran directly caused this attack then I’d love to hear a reason why they don’t have the right, much less the duty to their people to neuter Iran’s ability to harm their country.

I remember watching a young civilian truck driver getting his head sawed off in Iraq by some haji with what appeared to be a semi-dull knife when I was a young punk. If I could have enlisted at that age I would have. I get the rage at the atrocities that have occurred. However, I don’t understand some of the comments regarding civilians in Gaza. Based on some quick googling, elections were last held in 2006, and Abbas has delayed new ones for the last 17 years. Egypt has also blockaded Gaza since 2007. My knowledge is limited here, so I’m happy to be educated if required. However, if the above is true, where the fuck are these civilians going to “get out to”?I guess they could start swimming. An entire generation has grown up with zero input into who controls where they live, and since the average age is ~18 years old, I have a hard time blaming them for elections in 2006. I’m not saying Israel shouldn’t go on a haji hunting spree, but I absolutely have sympathy for the innocent civilians that will be caught up in this with nowhere to run.

Fox and CNN reporting that Hamas an Hezbollah have stated Iran helped with the planning. It’s almost like they’re trying to bait Israel into attacking Iran.

Heavy guys will PCS based on the length of their syllabus. CONUS based fighter guys will go TDY. Unfortunately, they’ll have to go back to their unit to out process once they finish PIT. The OCONUS fighter guys I know went TDY enroute.

Are nukes really on the table for Russia? Are they willing to instigate a nuclear confrontation anymore than we were in Korea or Vietnam. Despite an hyperbolic kremlin rhetoric, is anyone assessing that as a realistic possibility? Maybe outside the scope of an unclass network. Also, it wouldn’t be the first time Russians shot down a NATO aircraft, to include crewed aircraft. These occurrences were during the Cold War, where I think we can all agree there was a much higher probability of a nuclear confrontation than any other time in history. Looking at it from another angle. Would the US actual nuke Russia because they participated in a proxy war against us such as this (history says no, obviously). As a military member the idea of this seems absurd. Those of you wringing hands, why does it seem less absurd that Russia will respond in this way?

I don’t understand the hand wringing WRT US/NATO/EU involvement in this war. I don’t see Polish troops crossing the border like it’s the Yalu River to reinforce Ukraine (yet). As far as I know there aren’t any non-Ukrainians flying MiGs and shooting down Russians. Is Russia not bombing specific airfields because they’re afraid of killing U.S/British advisors and sparking a larger conflict? If the answer is yes, I’d say they’re just as concerned about widening the conflict as the rest of us. Surely these historical connections are obvious. It’s nothing new. The only substantial difference I see is the proximity of the conflict to the super power taking part in the conflict. The larger difference here is that said super power instigated the war themselves. Open to different points of view regarding these thoughts.

“It’s always been that way” is the main response most of us have heard when we’ve questioned some archaic non-sensical policy required by the AF. Usually, it’s offered up by some schlubby TSgt at finance explaining why my voucher wasn’t paid out on time. Reasons I’ve not been required to use base lodging in the past: it’s full of asbestos (x2), bedbug infestation (x3), the building was condemned (x3), the water is brown, black mold etc. All of these items were of course promptly fixed, followed by an almost identical memo above, before once again another memo was issued stating the opposite, because aforementioned issues weren’t in fact fixed. No idea where that $50 mil repair budget went though.. It’s unnecessary to pay Hilton nightly rates for Red Roof Inn levels of accommodation, especially when I can use the same money to stay somewhere that won’t add to my VA claim. All of this so DoD can get a kickback. Apologies for the diatribe. I’ll get off your lawn now, although your lawn is probably a cleaner place to stay than base lodging..

I wonder how many high level bobs approved the demo gameplan. I highly doubt this dude just went, “F it, we’ll do it live!” I’d guess there was a practice prior to the airshow, which was witnessed by said bobs/minions, and I suspect a list of planned maneuvers was submitted as well. Hopefully this dude stuck to the approved gameplan.

Word on the street is the Barnes Sq/CC was fired for letting one of his dudes do this. It was back in May, but I haven’t read any press releases about it. Anyone else hear the same?

We’re talking about a country’s right to defend its sovereignty against a foreign aggressor, which is exactly what my example describes. Call me naive but I couldn’t accept being told to give up by another government were it my country. Which is why I find it hypocritical to suggest the US do that in this situation. If you want to vote to stop sending them arms, fine. That’s not the same as demanding they relinquish their territory.

If you mean did I swear to support and defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, then yes, I did swear to that. If China at some point attempts to take control of say Guam or Hawaii then I would not be on the side of let’s “just let it go.”

God forbid the US will never face the kind of existential threat that Ukraine is facing. If we do face that, I hope those of you suggesting to “let it go” when it comes to national survival/sovereignty are no longer in the military.
