Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
Spur38 replied to Swizzle's topic in Squadron Bar
I purchased, for my daughter, through the Nevada Secretary of State and the Nevada Pre-Paid Tuition program. Like other 529 programs it is an advantage to purchase at an early age because of the cost differential and the obvious increases over time. You could possibly do better with a stock or other type of investment but the satisfaction that youve taken care of the kids college costs goes a long way! Not sure how other states rules work but the NV PPT can be applied to any out of state university but only at the highest NV fee per credit. It can also be transferred to another family member or even canceled and refunded if the little scrotum decides not to attend.. My daughter is now in her senior year and I will use my 36 months of VA education credits to support her advanced degree starting next year. It all has given me extra points for staying out late and carousing with my buddies when I feel the need. It didnt help at all with my job of ensuring that the garbage is out for Monday morning pick-up however!- 1,190 replies

I don't plan on getting sick but just trying to follow all this is making me ill.......summation: It may be very dated but remembering walking in for sick call or a flight physical at a base hospitial I remember all the moms with their kids that had colds, the old vets and uniformed service members sitting in the waiting area.....a great example of what socialized medicine is all about and where we are headed with ACA...tax payers paid for our medical needs in service; appropriate. But I don't feel good about paying for the health care of 46% of Americans that don't pay taxes anyway....wait..... how do those folks sign up for health care or will they under ACA?. How does Sam even know that they are out there? What's to stop anyone who dosen't want to play the ACA game from just going into the local ER for free care anyway?

Traffic Shutdown? Truck drivers plan 3-day protest on Capital Beltway Published October 08, 2013 • FoxNews. Not only is the government (partially) shut down, but now a caravan of truck drivers is looking to shut down traffic around Washington -- as part of a bizarre protest against things that are "destroying America." The group, Truckers Ride for the Constitution, is trying to attract participants for a demonstration on the Capital Beltway starting this Friday. "Truck drivers will not haul freight! ... Truckers will lead the path to saving our country if every American rides with them!" the group's Facebook page, which had more than 57,000 "likes" as of Tuesday morning, declares. The truckers reportedly plan to clog the Beltway by driving "three lanes deep" for three days. But alas, it is a hoax. “The comments to U.S. News were designed to do one thing and one thing only: stir the feather of the mainstream media,” said Conlon, a father of three. “Nothing gets the attention of the mainstream media like some sort of disastrous threat. I knew it was going to ruffle some feathers.” So while thousands of truckers may indeed come to Washington on Friday and many of them may travel along the inner loop of the Beltway, honking their horns, they won’t intentionally shut down traffic, he said. “First of all, we know it would not be right to go to D.C. to lock down the city by the Belt loop,” said Conlon, 50, a veteran truck driver who has suffered through more than his share of traffic jams. “That wouldn’t be fair to the people there.” And Conlon is not sure that he will even make it to town Friday.

Re: Lauren,"She was eventually diagnosed with chronic adjustment disorder - a milder form of post-traumatic stress disorder" I think a visit to her plastic surgeon and an agumentation would solve her PTSD. Nobody told her that the 12 yr old boy look would only attract video gamers who live with their parents.

Thanks Bro! Curious about how much wx radar training you guys get. Could you say that it was a factor? I was Nevada based (Army Guard) and flew C-12s OEF/OIF. I had our guys go through some outside (Civ) wx radar interpretation classes prior to deployment. Just knowing how to set the gain correctly was a big plus for accurate interpretation vs. the info provided in the wx rad ops man.; stuff that we certainly didn't get in transition and very limited during refreshers at FSI International, but became invaluable for OCONUS and SOUTHCOM Ops... "Shoes and Strap Hangers" = Non aviators or higher ranking aviators with very little flying experience, wantabes......dickheads etc. Not to mention the utterly miserable and worthless weather reporting available...at least in 2005. Always on your own... At any rate, I greatly appreciate the info, think you didn't deserve what you received and congratulate you and the crew for getting it down with all those folks on-board...none of us would ever want to be in that position but I know we all appreciate and benefit from your experience. Hopefully your still flying something, you deserve to be!

Aviator to aviator, I commend you Day Man for having the major league huevos to step up to the plate and provide your peers with your experiences. In my 40+ years of military aviation it is certainly a rarity but really demonstrates what any worth-a-shit aviation safety program or command should have as its primary focus…to inform and prevent aircraft incidents, accidents and contribute to effective CRM. From your candid approach and willingness to share, it seems very strange to me that the decisions made to relieve you from flight status seem incongruent and shameful….it also appears, obviously, that there was major “Shoe and Strap Hanger” involvement with the decision process and quite possibly a failure on the part of your counsel. Without our having access to the report, would you be willing to give us a time sequence synopsis? Causation, Recognition and Crew Reaction(s), CRM factors etc.? I’m sure that the BO mods would allow the space for this very important story and believe me; it will help lots of pilots and crews, not just one!

At least McCain was accomplishing something, playing poker during the hearing. Quite apparent by he's coming out aginst the draft resolution this morning....it's all a circus. It would seem that the US Amb would go to the UN Security Council request UN support for POTUS proposed action (Knowingly that the Ruskies and China would veto) and then state that the US is withdrawing monetary support and perhaps membership from the worthless UN. -
I didn't think that the Ruskies had DADT....

If Husan gets death...it dosent mean Butkus...last execution was in 1961 amd there are currently 5 on death row. I say give him a cell with "Chelsea", feed him ham sandwiches and dress Chelsea in a goat costume so he can practice until he gets the 72 virgins.....

No death penalty! Just give him, what remains of his usless life, soap to drop in the prison shower and spoiled ham sandwitches .....

Curious to see where the ACLU is in these situations and if the protesters ever try to get city permits to demonstrate, not that they should need them for 1st Amendment justifications but just to play the game....

Also from a reliable (?) internet source: "The swastika was employed by various American Indian tribes, notably the Navajo, for whom it was a sort of good luck sign".
