My calculations put it at roughly $1k/month for a 15 vs 20 year O-4. It takes about 12 years for the 20 year pay total to exceed the 15 year pay (due to the extra 5 years of payments). Those are just rough guesstimates I used when making my decision to apply for TERA earlier in the year. I noticed they had added a paragraph on the mypers TERA page saying in effect that all twice passed over O-4s would be offered TERA if eligible. Of course, they didn't define eligibility, whether that was the current TERA criteria, or just meaning you have >15 years. I wondered the reason why they added that late in the game (April) and whether they were going to continue or not. I was approved for TERA in April, but had kind of held out hope that this might be a second chance if originally denied, since I was most likely not gonna make it. Are there reports of continuation being offered to anyone? Sorry to hear about this being implemented for people that really wanted to stay in...can't help the timing!

This is off the All ATPs website to enter their ME ATP program (based on FAR 61.159) 1500 hrs TT - 500 XC - 100 Night - 75 Inst (Actual or Sim) (50 hrs in an airplane) - 250 PIC Airplane - 50 MEL I fail to see how you don't qualify. Maybe you need to look into another school. Also, how do you complete 100 hrs of TC-12 training and end up with no other multi time with 3k hours? T-6 and U-28s or something? More information with regards to your flying history would help us help you.

How much ME time did she say you need? A couple of our guys did the 737 type with me and only had a couple hundred T-38 hours for ME time. Everything else was SEL or powered lift. At some point you flew a ME right? Like a T-37, T-38, T-1, or T-44?

In response to Nineline and hindsight2020... Probably longer than your "old" job you appear to hate. Most everybody enjoys being in the land of misfit aviators for an extended period of time. Plus, the recent FM shenanigans have left lots of room for growth in the program for the younger guys. Good enough reason to stay in as any...

Thanks ChkHandleDn! I'm starting a part 135 charter job in a few weeks and still learning a lot about the pay structure.

What are you going to be flying for $200/day? Do you get an hourly rate + the daily rate?

Nice photos Mike! Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you finally got to fly a jet. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Shaft34 replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
I think they just haven't gotten around to officially approving/denying any 11R VSP applications yet. They just did the 11R TERA last week, so maybe they'll get to it soon. Word I got from AFPC indicated there were eight 11R applicants for TERA from the 99 year group, with three being approved based on the allowed quota. The 99 year group is closed out on the latest matrix. I know we have several VSP applicants between the two U-2 squadrons and am guessing they have a similar quota system to decide who stays and who goes. They did have a rack and stack, but I don't know for sure the qualifiers. Remaining ADSC did play a role though. Good luck! -

Thanks! I think it will take a couple weeks for it to sink in. Kind of sad bringing my military aviation career to an end, but excited for new opportunities. -

Yes...game back on! They pushed it up the chain and the decision was to let the "approved" retirement date stand. Not sure what went into the decision, but it definitely worked in my favor. Probably trying to avoid the same bad publicity from last week. Despite the AFPC poor showing overall, I do have to say the retirements NCOIC was timely in keeping me up to date on the situation in person on the phone. No robo messages, the decision was made quickly (less than 24 hrs), and I was informed ASAP. Now on to the job search! Best of luck to all those awaiting answers... -
FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Shaft34 replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
Yeah...not so well played after all. Just got a call from AFPC saying they sent the approval to the wrong "Maj Xxxxx". The quota has been met and I was down the list a few. Currently waiting for a decision from a General on how to proceed from here. All I've been wanting is a resolution to this process, either a yes or no. Kind of sucks telling your family you've been approved, then turning around a couple hours later and telling them you still don't have a clue! -

Same boat for me North48. Hopefully we'll get some word one way or another by the end of the week. -
I know this was pretty much answered earlier in the thread, but I found this fairly simple flowchart on Sheppard Air's website that might be helpful to someone. Even us knuckledragging singleseat types... https://www.sheppardair.com/download/MCI_Flowchart_v02.pdf

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)

Old TERA announcement "Although we are updating in batches...The application window will run through 26 Mar 14. Therefore, you should expect an answer no later than 1 Apr 14." New TERA announcement: "TERA processing has not been suspended. We are still planning to begin providing Approval/Disapproval notifications as scheduled 1-Apr-2014." -
Interesting development out of CA... https://www.mercurynews.com/crime-courts/ci_25428957/state-sen-leland-yee-indicted-arms-trafficking-corruption Sen Leland Yee, one of the state's most anti-gun politicians, arrested by the FBI for corruption and arms trafficking. Can't say I am surprised, but it might be sweet poetic justice for once. Third state politician this year!

One (out of 5 total) of our TERA applicants has a DOS of 31 July 14 showing on his CDB on vMPF. He is a 19 yr continued O-4. Mine is still showing INDEFINITE, even after the validation complete message last Friday. I am a '99/11R with GI TEB ADSC. -

Decent article on the Garand in the most recent edition of the NRA's "Shooting Sports USA" - https://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/nra/ssusa_201403/#/0

Nice Garand! Lockbar and all. Maybe just missing the milled trigger guard (hard to tell)?

I have to say that Olin Corp (Winchester) took care of me with a bad lot of primers I bought a few years ago. These were Win Large Rifle primers being used for loading .308 and .260 long-range targets loads. Out of 6-700 fired I had 8 with tiny pin hole failures on the outside corner of the primer. Had read about similar failures online, so contacted Winchester and submitted photos of the failed primers. They sent a UPS return label and took the remaining 1300 primers. About 1-2 months later they sent me a whole case of 5k new WLRs (different lot of course). I wasn't thrilled about having the problem in the first place, but they did a good job taking care of it for me!

Grendel would be ok for deer, but marginal for the other game you mentioned. A 123gr bullet at 2400 fps doesn't come close to touching a .308 with a 150 or 165gr bullet. The other 6.5s (.260, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x47 Lapua, or 6.5x55 Swede) do have better down range potential though. You would need an AR-10 size for those. Go 7 mag if you end up with a bolt gun. Could use the reduced recoil ammo for the shorter range deer shots to keep the velocity more reasonable.

As SocialD mentioned...both the 7mm Rem Mag or .300 Win Mag would fill the high end of your requirements. Could also look at the 7WSM or .300WSM for a short action gun. All these rounds are found in most any store selling ammo, which is good. Probably a little overkill for deer, but not overly. Covers all your bases with one gun. For deer just about any cartridge will work. All the short action -08s are good choices, like the .243.Win, .260 Rem, 7-08 Rem, and .308 Win. I use a .30-06 and it worked well on a WY elk this year at about 200 yds with 165 Accubonds. Can use the cheaper 150 CoreLokts for deer. Working on a 180gr Partition load for elk next year. Very versatile cartridge. Been thinking about getting a 25-06 and 35 Whelen to round out my -06 collection. Honestly, most any cartridge and gun these days will work for your needs. More important to find a rifle you shoot well and can afford to practice simulating field conditions.
