  5. I was willing to be cool with the little stuff at first, but yeah, there are so many big ticket items he could fix with policy immediately, yet he doesn't. I'll take the little stuff, but overall he's dropping the ball when he leaves those big ticket items untouched. There's a difference between him saying, "we need to do things smarter in regards to AADs", and actually changing the regs/policy, and not allowing wg/cc, etc to make the policy more restrictive. Sorry, random Sunday morning ramble. Pick any other number of examples... Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

  8. Love the app, and happy to contribute, but for me right now multi tasking doesn't work. If I go into email from here, or a text, when I come back it kicks me back to the start page. Anyway to change that? Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!
  9. Wrong thread for this dead horse conversation... Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

  12. "Hey, see that mountain over there? I bet I could throw this football over that mountain." You don't sound disgruntled. You sound like Uncle Kip reliving how awesome you were back in the glory days. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  13. I'll second the "why are people complaining" line of thought. Do you haters actually think Gen Welsh is trying to fool anyone with MM? He's trying to make the best of a bad situation. If you can't have a little fun now and again, you're way too uptight. I don't think the AF was fixed overnight, and things are still pretty dismal, but now I don't have to wear blues on Monday, and my mustache is going to be wildly out of regs. Will either of those things affect a potential decision to get out? Nope.
  14. When people say just this, nothing will ever change! If everybody follows this guidance, no one will have AAD when they change it forcing the AF to either promote people without it, or promote no one! I agree, it's subject to change, but it's an attitude that says, "well, I'm going to do it anyway" that screws everyone else.
  15. Are you really a senior officer? I ask only because I figured any real senior officer would have worked with some of our allies. Anyone who's ever worked with any of our allies knows that with an exception for our Muslim allies, at any level from E-1 on up to O-7 (and probably higher, just never seen their offices) you will find full up naked pictures in their office on the walls, desks, etc. I agree with you that I think that kind of crap is inappropriate, but none (see exception I listed earlier) of our allies agree with you. The US is the only place where we try to have a non-offensive environment. Everyone else acts like adults whether their is filth on the wall or not. Sorry, I'm derailing the thread, but you make your credibility dubious at best when you speak with "authority" on things you obviously don't understand.
  16. Agreed, can't even access with tapatalk right now.
  17. Don't go spouting ridiculous platitudes now. Waist measurement is a decent tool when done within reason. I'm no Dr. or exercise physiologist, so I'll leave the exact points, in measurable units rounded to the nearest whole number to them. Basic point is, we have to hold people to a standard. That standard needs to make sense. 32" waist doesn't make sense, so change it. I'm all for that, but they can't leave it at nothing for the moment. I guess I'll just accept being out of touch with you guys on this point. We shouldn't accept out of shape people in the armed forces. Whether they're sitting behind a computer or not. I am 100% against the "everyone's a warrior" mindset, but that doesn't mean they get to look like bums in a uniform. Whatever, keep railing against our people being in shape. Once again, and for the last time, I'll say it. That shape doesn't have to be marathon runner, just not round in the middle... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  18. Agreed, minus the no idea part. Father was Army, brother is, and quite a few good friends are. Who cares about the waist measurement! Pretty sure I've made my point a few times... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  19. A very huge majority of the Army and Navy are and will be sitting at computers their whole careers. Very small percentage do the actual grunt work. One more time. I'm not pushing for a 32" waist. Just don't look like a bum in the uniform. Be able to run to the BX and back without getting winded. Simple things. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  20. Sorry to keep encouraging this derail, but I can't comprehend you guys on this one. I don't know how to be clearer. We are a military force. Being good at your job is the number one priority, obviously, but they're are things that have to be done along with that. Not being obese ought to be a given. This is yet one more reason why every other branch of the military derides the AF. Not because we have fat people (the Navy has more), but because we can't be bothered to stay in shape or care about it. This wouldn't even be a discussion in the Army. I know, I know, we joined the AF to not deal with Army crap. I agree, but come on, just do the minimum to not be fat. That's not asking too much. Most of the time you can do that without even exercising. Just eat better... If our fatties could be trusted to stay in shape, we probably wouldn't even need a test, but I bet the PT test existed long before fatties in the military were tolerated. Sick burn man! My dislike of people who make excuses for people too lazy to simply not be fat reminds you of some D Bag sq/cc you once had. Good story. It's not like I'm asking anyone to run a 9:30 during the test, just look like someone who cares enough about his own health to not need a shoehorn to fit into a uniform... I know it's probably not the case, but these arguments sound like they come from overweight people who have "accepted" themselves. That's cool in the civilian world. ETA: thankfully I spell better than amcflyboy PTs. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  21. Yep, we all know that only extremes exist. Don't need marathon runners, just people that look like they could actually be members of a military. I'll never understand why out of shape, fat military members get defended by anyone. You are in the military for goodness sake, act like it just a little and take care of your body. Don't have to be a crossfitter, just take care of yourself. The best mission hackers I ever knew were well rounded. They did enough of everything to stay good, and focused extra energies on the mission. That isn't rocket science... Disgustingly fat, genius hackers only exist in the movies. If you're truly good at your job, you probably do a decent job at most everything else. Exceptions always exist of course... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  22. Like it or not, we are still a military. Yes, I care a lot of some dude looks ridiculous in a uniform even if he's great at his job. We might as well go full civilian culture if all we care about is job performance. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the military hides the fact that you are supposed to stay in shape whether active, reserve, guard, whatever. Being great at his job means he may get a couple of extra chances, but while he can do nothing about the 5'9", he can definitely take some steps towards fixing the weight issue. If not, his next steps should be towards the civilian side. ETA: Oh yeah, don't give me some BS story about it just being a body type. There is a body type for 5'9" and 250 lbs. It's called fat. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  23. But this is impossible! They are just as capable and standards shouldn't be changed. New rule, no "big step" march in parades anymore... This hurts the equality fight. And three women just made it through the Marines Infantry course recently. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  24. Their version of committed to the mission means we'll continue to do the mission because we love it even if we have substandard equipment, and we'll still be really good at it. At some point their BS commitment won't matter when our HH-60's can't fly anymore. This isn't like a KC-135 that can fly for 50-60 years. Helo's destroy themselves in benign conditions. We don't fly in benign conditions... Edit: they're vs their... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  25. Seriously? You must have been loved by your bros back in the day. That is the saddest thing I've heard this week. Nobody here believes for a minute that you're all business during the duty day. You either are disliked by everyone behind your back, or you simply don't have any friends with an attitude like that. People are going to talk about what's important to them when at work, while working... Impossible to avoid, and you're crazy for demanding it. Maybe you're just not being clear. Maybe you meant that significant time should not be devoted to it while during duty hours? Maybe you were just referring to a two hour whining session? If that's what you were saying, then I think most reasonable people here would agree with you. If not, you need to really take a look at your expectations, and ask yourself, "am I really that d bag that I used to hate because he 'didn't get it'?" I like a lot of what you have to say, but you occasionally lose sight of reality! That is what is driving people out. Leaders that talk the good talk a lot, but then wipe out everything they've previously said with one new policy, asinine comment about what they're allowed to talk about at work, etc. you guys really don't get it. I seriously wonder how a guy like me is going to survive in this AF? I'm going to school, I'll probably end up running a sqdn in a few years, and I'm going to quickly be fired for not toeing the party line because that line is ridiculous. I'll lay it out for my guys, as to what people like you expect from them, and then I'll let them know what is important to me. Nobody is going to get special treatment for the crap that gets people strats right now. I'm going to have to fight my boss and his boss to justify why my number one guy is the best tactical guy in the sqdn, who is well rounded. Well rounded to me doesn't include some BS degree or CFC volunteer, but a solid leader who mentors young pilots, makes sure the sqdn is running smoothly, and has his personal life in order. That probably means I'll never go further than SQ/CC if I even survive that without getting fired. Sorry, I'm rambling, but you really make people think about what they want to get out of this AF. I guess that's a good thing... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
