  1. You sure you aren't an air university sleeper agent looking to shut this site down? C'mon dude gouge isn't necessary. Read the books and forget it all within 6.9 secs after the tests.
  2. I can vouch for this. Sheppard Air was the absolute easiest test prep and resource I have used. 6 hours of study, take test, get over 90%. I took my paperwork to a guy at Eglin (on base CFI/examiner) and he processed my paperwork for me for 125 bucks....a few weeks later I had my CFII. Of course you can go direct to FSDO yourself but you need you shit squared away as far as paperwork goes.

I just did a little research and they appear to be in stock still. Kind of an interesting report from their company...

Thanks...I just put in an order for magazines. I'm surprised that they aren't on backorder or sold out..which makes me a little nervous. We shall see if it ships out.
  5. Nothing but good words about "higher power aviation" in dallas. Had a few bros do the 737 combined type rating/atp with those guys.
  6. Very cool. I think this would be a great way to get outside and hike.
  7. Please tell my why I need a credit card. I can buy everything with cash. I can get rental cars with my mastercard or visa debit card. I can reserve and pay for hotels the same. I can get a mortgage with a quality lender even if I have a zero credit score. Emergencies? Well, I have over 6 months of expenses sitting in a money market that I can instantly use to take care of any emergency necessary. I have travelled all over the world with just a debit card and cash...zero issues. I'm not telling you that you shouldn't have a card, but the fact that you think not having a card is dumb is simply ignorant. Cash is king....and you often get a better deal when you break out the cash.
  8. Like you, I also am a follower of the Dave Ramsey approach. My wife and I have been married for 3 .69 years. In that time, we became debt free, got rid of ALL credit cards, and pay cash for everything (vehicles included). We have no loans. However, we don't have a house yet and do not really plan on buying one til we get out. Hopefully we will have 200K or more to pay cash or have a huge deposit. We will have to get a manual underwriting mortgage though because our credit score is ZERO. For investments we do 2 X Roth IRAs (mine is with Fidelity Contrafund and the wife's is with a standard USAA fund). We also do the TSP--I put in 10% of base pay. I wanted to mention that I started to get away from the USAA pushed funds--which I had used for 10+ years--because I started looking at what is avail in the big market. USAA funds rarely perform and don't have the track records like the heavy hitting Vanguard, Fidelity, etc. So, as Dave Ramsey advises, I sought out a fund with a minimum 10 year track record and historical return of at/near 12%. Not a hit on USAA entirely, but as someone else mentioned in another thread, they often assume they have your total loyalty and allegiance....so they always push their funds even though they may have zero history. Our friends think we are crazy for having zero credit and not borrowing. I guess we are.
  9. Snooter--Dude thanks for posting this. That is some scary stuff. The limfac is in the private companies that aren't required to have the robust defense against attacks. If the grids got shut down in big cities in the summer it would be mass chaos. I can't imagine the fallout of that happening in L.A., etc.
  10. I'm not feeling threatened by zombies, but did notice when flying out of Eglin that I didn't have much in the way of supplies when we had our Hurrivac warnings. I've always had guns and ammo, but if a huge natural or economic disaster happens the critical items will be food/water, etc. That's why I asked the question. I'm guessing if it is dry goods you can ship it around in HHGs.
  11. I did a search and didn't see anything on this. I'm not one of these extreme "prepper" guys who wants to stockpile tons of food and weapons, but my wife and I were discussing the idea of having a few weeks/months supply of food in case of emergency. I was just curious if any other guys on AD have attempted this...and how does it work when you have to PCS every 3 years? I'm guessing you could put most/if not all of it in HHGs if you were under weight allowance. I have heard that the mormons stock up to one year...but have never asked any of the bros how/if they did it.
  12. No more news on this? Ok, I'll just consider it squadron rumors, etc. Though I wouldn't put it past CSAF to consider it.
  13. Sounds pretty extreme. Though, I wouldn't be surprised at a knee jerk reaction. The writing for the airline boom has been on the wall for years now. If they couldn't see that coming (sts) then they are idiots. I wonder how that would affect guys wanting to stay in with 10 yr ADSCs. Would the bonus still be a player?
  14. I'm sorry, but you can't replicate the awesome cold war action film Red Dawn. First I've heard of this nonsense. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Dawn_(2012_film)
  15. this shit sandwich just got a whole lot bigger
  16. I agree that this needs a second look. A new article from abc here
  17. don't let the door hit you on the way out....
  18. when was the last time it went up? I'm also hoping to catch a higher bonus in 2.5 years or so or I might be punching
  19. https://travel.usatoday.com/flights/story/2011/06/Demand-for-airline-pilots-set-to-soar/48661596/1 I hope big blue factored this into the equation
  20. I'm on my way to a viper exchange in Europe. Fighter porch gets the list...but I was also able to look on AMS several months out to see what types are out there...doesn't mean that it will show up on the VML however. I know of the following F-16 PEP (exchange jobs) in Europe: Holland/Denmark/Italy/Portugal/Norway....I might have missed a couple. Of course there are other jobs that are open to other airframes (i.e. UK harrier/French Mirage/German Tornado, etc)
  21. There is another option: go on a plant based diet and cut out all dairy and oil. the numbers don't lie: www.heartattackproof.com Avg total cholesterol drop in one month for those on this type of program is around 60-100 pts. Before you say "you can't get enough protein," tell that to Mac Danzig (UFC fighter) some NFL players and numerous professional ironman athletes. It's pretty interesting to see how you can medicate through food alone. Bill Clinton did the same to save his life (and that guy knew how to grub)
  22. Can't we all just get along...
  23. Well said. I am a Maj with 11 years and have never bought a house and will not until I'm out of the AD. Because, as you said, risk has to be factored in....and people don't seem to do that. A lot of my peers have the 300K+ house you speak of because they feel like that is appropriate to their current age, etc....however, they really don't make enough, or have anywhere near enough stability in the military to do it (unless they were to pay cash and I haven't seen anyone do that yet). I have saved between 15-18% towards retirement since a 2nd LT, already have 6 figures in TSP/Roths alone and live very comfortably with our spending plan. You mentioned Dave Ramsey.....he also advises military members to NOT buy a house for the very same reasons. I do hope this 20 year retirement holds because I have sort of planned on it. However, if they drop it I'll start piling up money in my savings account and be ready to bail to airlines in 2013/14.
  24. got to fly the AT-6 2 times last year during an operational eval at DM. It was a sweet airplane actually.
