I like the Airbus setup. Push (hdg sync) pull (hdg sel) turn (aircraft turns in direction selected by the way you spin the knob to the selected heading).
It has to do with some old school mode reversion stuff that modern airliners generally don’t have a problem with. There are several good techniques for the bug. Leave it centered and you can always easily revert to it. Crossing the ocean? Turn it 45 off so you can detect an unintentional reversion or have your contingency turn set up. My OCD says center it. But that’s just my disease. It is funny when you fly with someone who wants it centered and someone who doesn’t and the slap fight ensues.
The Canucks do 2Lt in or awaiting training and promote to 1Lt with training complete (UPT equivalent). You get back pay if “later” to 1Lt than “scheduled.” Pin on Capt after completing aircraft specific training. Again back pay if later than the normal timeline to Capt. Never pin on Maj...unless you want the leadership track. But a Capt in years and years of active flight pay makes more than a Maj or possibly even a Lt Col in the staff/leadership job who has not kept earning increases in flight pay because he hasn’t been flying.
Maybe they will move less people with only two cycles because they will realize that a hard and fast moving every three years or less is really a special kind of stupid.
We had some way to make student leather name tags at CBM when I was a stud there 15+ years ago. I recall we made our own black leather name tags for our flight suits.
Way way back (think continental army) the w/dependents was because a man with a wife needed a bigger house than a single man. Just like an officer, whose family had paid for his commission, needed a larger house than the enlisted men.
It is where you are physically on a calendar day (after 2400). It has been that way for years. Examples: Leave US and land past midnight at Ramstein. You get 75% ETAR per diem for the first day and ETAR per diem the next day. You leave ETAR before midnight and land Khar the next day you get Khar per diem.
