  1. Everyone I know got a few tidbits out of it but it didn't help them for their APZ. Too many "leaders" have already written off once passed over dudes. There were a bunch (30 ish?) of APZ with a P this year though which is a change.
  2. If he will be >15 years of service before the mandatory DOS then he has a case based on a few prior boards. However, they don't have to offer TERA. But a call to his Congressman would be in order if he wants TERA and not the single lump sum.
  3. Of the three posted here apparently only one was real. The two I know were offered continuation to 24 when the paperwork SNAFU was fixed.
  4. I got some more info...paraphrase to protect the innocent: The Senate Armed Services Committee has questions about retention they want answered before they allow the Air Force to release this bonus. It is not due to budget issues as I previously stated. Reading between the lines...AF tells Congress that they need to throw more money at the problem. Panel of aviators recently told Congress "it isn't about the money." So, Congress doesn't want to spend the money since they don't think it will fix aviator retention.
  5. If you've ever seen a hammer against flight frames and Oakleys...then you'll understand. Go read the source reg or have someone show you just how fragile the off the shelf glasses are compared to the ugly-ass ones the AF issues. I will never challenge someone for wearing the wrong boots or glasses. I don't have time for that level of micromanagement; also, like I said, I fly with my non AF sunglasses. But it would suck to have that one commander who did a line of duty determination decide you ed yourself up because you chose to ignore the regs.
  6. Technically Oakleys that meet the dress and appearance reg may not meet the impact requirements of the other reg. It isn't a haze. It is eyeball protection. That said, I'll take the risk and wear my Oakleys.
  7. Minus the patch part, I can name at least 5 individuals in the KC-10 community with similar stats who were not selected for O-5 on the last 3-4 boards. All of them are people I would follow into combat. I can also name several who were selected for O-5...I would never follow them into combat except for morbid curiosity. Thankfully all of them are stuck on staff for the rest of their careers.
  8. Did you read the article? FY18 budget...stays same as FY17. So $35k max. That said, the people at the top are clueless even if they have a "pilot retention crisis team."
  9. See other posts to this effect...but the two guys I know were just given the wrong letter. Continued after all. Supposedly. When they finally get the "correct" letter.
  10. JarheadBoom has it 100% correct. "Sorry, sir, we didn't actually read or follow the PSDM and just generated 'fuck you get out of the AF' letters to these guys." I don't know about the first dude who was not offered continuation, but the two dudes I know were "just" given the wrong letter by a GO. Turns out they were actually continued.
  11. So, it turns out the person who was supposed to put together the correct form letter just grabbed the "so long and thanks for all the fish" version and never actually read the PSDM that said both these guys were twice passed over but offered selective continuation under the current "11X is a critical skill" and "fully qualified." They're still waiting to get their "real" twice passed over letters.
  12. Two guys I know had about a month shy of 15 years when notified but will have more than 15 years when forced out.
  13. I personally know two who were passed over for O-5 and not continued.
  14. I know a guy from another board who had Art 32 proceedings initiated against him for what he posted anonymously from a government computer.
  15. We just had a meeting with a "senior leader" in A3 who basically said nothing more than "we're making really great programs to train new pilots and retain pilots." Inspired zero confidence that they have any ing clue what to do.
  16. Might as well stop on the runway since the MOG is 1.
  17. You can't offer a new bonus on a CR. The FY17 budget needs to be approved before they can release it. Same thing happened right before sequestration.
  18. Misread the 25 *at* a major as 25 years as a Major. Disregard.
  19. They can currently stay in to 24.
  20. I know a guy who got news.
  21. Some but not many in the MAF.
  22. But he's building his own tunnel machines!
  23. I used to go out on the ramp as a Wing Safety dude and talk to MX about their jobs and learn from them about my airplane. MX NCO leadership was pissed. "Stop spying on our troops." Line MX guys were shocked a flier cared about them/their jobs.
  24. Used to be day prior to public release by reg or something. Some commanders tell you early some don't.
