  2. Correct. And your commander can set boundaries for a normal pass (e.g. weekends when you work M-F) per verification with JAG; however, those boundaries may not be mileage based.

Sometimes this applies, more often times this doesn't (don't forget, not all squadrons involve planes/ops type people). By what reg? The reg actual statement is "The local area is the place where the member lives and from which he or she commutes to the duty station." If you exceed the limits a commander sets on a pass, you must be one leave or you are AWOL.

  6. Weren't they found not guilty? One resigned in lieu of court martial. Another's life / family situation was fucked up for about two years throughout the whole process.

  10. You're right. I was thinking of 1X published with the award or the basic pilot rating. 1U for UPT studs. I'd still argue that the SURF is not an official record (since most of them say "not official" on them). Maybe a vMPF duty history. Definitely an AF 2096 or the AOs would be an official record. At the risk of poking the bear, I'll keep digging and see what I can turn up as to the "intent" of the words "military pilot" in the FAR.
  11. But does it automatically shut down the motor in-flight? My guess is that requires pilot input. Wouldn't the pilot want to be the final arbiter over whether to shut down the radar? What if he's in the middle of an engagement when it starts to degrade? He may still be getting *some* capability from it. The Airbus Sully was flying wouldn't let the motors keep running due to the logic in the FADECs. Something about "motor damaged, can't start."

  14. You could call every FSDO in the country and you'll get a different answer. The simple truth of the matter is that all the equivalency items, including medical and cert/type rating, are predicated upon official records showing that the member is a military pilot. A DD2992 is not an official record of your status as a military pilot. A DD2992 coupled with the AF475 from pilot training or a Form 8 checkride is a different story.
  15. You are not a "military pilot" until you have wings. It is why you take the Mil Comp after getting wings and not before. As an SP you will need a Class 3 medical certificate.

  17. How do guys working on joint staffs under non AF leadership get DPs? Does the MLR do that automatically or does the SR have to reach out to the MLR? They are called aggregate DPs. If a SR doesn't have enough IPZ to earn a DP outright (i.e. 1 IPZ for a 58% DP allocation) then his IPZ is combined with all the other IPZ in similar circumstances into an aggregate pool. These records are competed at the MLR for the total number of aggregate DPs.
  18. Here is what y'all are missing: they finally admitted the target is retaining 65% of uncommitted pilots. They don't need all of you to take $35K. They don't want all of you to take $35K. They want the 10% they didn't get last year and the % they won't get this year. The 15 year bonus you are probably thinking of is the CSB part of the CSB/REDUX retirement option. It is still out there and separate from the ACP. If you take the one time $30K bonus at 15 years, you will be paying for it until the day you die...leaving about $400K in retirement on the table. Somehow the second half of my reply got cut off.

  21. So back to the discussion. What is the biggest discriminator amongst P's assuming boxes checked? The SR push line? Statements like "if I had one more DP" or "my DP if I had one?" Do SR's really differentiate amongst the P's? Overall strength of record? Some O-5 bottom line discriminators: Does it have a push for Sq/CC, Sq/DO, or something else? If there are a large number of IPZ in the SR's group, is there a strat? "If I had one more DP" is generally a good thing on a P PRF unless overused by a SR...although I guess they've been cracking down on the use of "Definitely promote!" in the bottom line if it is a P. Does the overall PRF tell the story of how you performed the past X years and that you have the potential to lead at the next rank?

  24. They don't always order you to muster but there is a muster every year. If you receive orders...well, you get to go visit the sunny Florida beach! Unless you can't complete the travel to, muster, and travel from in one day.
