  1. I think the curvature you see in the video is greatly exaggerated due to the wide-angle cameras they used, so you're not really seeing like half of the earth as it kind of appears.
  2. But then wouldn't your airspeed be 0? I think you'd be better off landing on a stopped treadmill which is sitting on a truck that is driving down the road really fast.
  3. It's really a shame that Yeager is such an ass. Watching The Right Stuff as a kid is one of the things that first got me really interested in aviation I think, and I still thought Yeager was the man when I read his book as a teenager. Then I started to realize that in all the videos I've seen of him, he's kind of a dick! Finally I saw him speak in person at Airventure a couple years ago, and I was amazed at how arrogant he acted, even answering kids' questions from the audience. His wife even came up on stage and insisted that everyone who wants to ask a question address him as “General Yeager.” I was bummed out. Oh well. Also, Where’d they get this brand new F-15?! That’s pretty neat.
  4. I think I read that Joe Kittinger went into a bad spin on one of his jumps that set some kind of g force related record because he spun so fast! Maybe with no air to stabilize him he could spin freely initially, and then when more air started hitting him it just made it worse before he was able to stabilize himself? I'm just guessing. Felix's spin did look pretty gnarly though! They also said he had an emergency chute that would deploy on its own if it felt too many G's, so his spin must have been considered 'safe' I guess.
  5. Brits? Or aliens?

  11. Well in Europe they do their dots and commas opposite of us when it comes to numbers. You'll see when they show the temperature it'll have a comma for the decimal. I keep seeing that too though. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  12. He better jump, we've all been sitting here for 2 hours! Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

  15. Probably because the comments on the last one were going way out of control! (even for youtube)
  16. Some of the comments are interesting... Dude must have a frickin atrocious looking wife Edited to fix unintentional crazy html formatting.
  17. You stay classy, Cleveland. Edited to add: Audio is definitely NSFW! https://www.youtube....h?v=9-14O1aqVDo
  18. I'm not sure, but I went in May. I guess I wouldn't really recommend going to Scott if you can help it; my shit still hasn't been approved yet and I'm not the only one! I know others who got selected at the same time as me and went to WP, and they're already at OTS.
  19. I, and a bunch of other OTS selects, did it at Scott, so WP isn't the only place for initial FC1. EDIT: Also if you go the OTS route you don't even go to MFS until after OTS, and then I think it is at WP. But the FC1 and MFS are separate in that case. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  20. Why would the have to remove the booth? They could just have a sound level meter in the room outside the booth recording the ambient sound levels during testing. Then if someone complained about outside noise they could just check the measurements that were taken and see exactly what the ambient noise level was. I have no idea how they actually do it but that's how I'd do it!
  21. Wisconsin does too, and if you want to fly KC-10's there's a KC-135 unit right here in Milwaukee you could apply to!
  22. Some of this just sounds extremely wrong... First things first: Get your degrees in order The comments are pretty interesting/entertaining too. Most of the commenters are just blasting the author for this advice.
  23. That is pretty interesting; I didn't even know they could set up full size planes for remote control that long ago. BUT, the difference is you definitely could not fit a B-17 in a backpack and launch it out of a handheld tube! Wait, what?!
  24. I just finished My Secret War the other night... What a great book! I've been reading a lot of Vietnam books lately, but I don't think any were nearly as immersive or personal as Drury's. Everything from the demoralizing bad leadership he dealt with, to the excitement and suspense of the rescue missions near the end of the book; everything came accross as an honest account from a guy who loves flying and loves the A-1, with no ego or bullshit to distract the reader. Just a totally excellent book. The only bad part was that the copy I got is pretty ancient and all the pages are falling out of the binding. I'm going to have to see if I can get it re-bound or something because I'm sure I'll want to read it again eventually. Now I'm starting on Bob Hoover's book. Pretty good so far.
  25. Wow that is one douchetastically passive aggressive banner they had there!
